I'm delighted that you are making content. A friendly suggestion...maybe lower the volume of the background music. I found that the music was competing with your voice making it a bit of a struggle to hear you clearly. Admittedly, I may be more sensitive than others about background noise/music but, it would be nice to hear you a little louder than the background music. I look forward to seeing more videos from you!

Thank you! It's so hard to gauge the volume because it always sounds ok while editing 😢 I will lower it for the next video!

Excellent video! I got my diy pon mix from your instagram a while ago and it's been great for me for over a year now. Don't know if it's available in BC, but for the lava rock I use Lava Grip from Canadian Tire. ALSO Tamagotchi, heck ya. I had a version 1 and version 2 back in the early 2000s and my mom used to babysit mine while I was at school too 💕

Good to hear you had success with diy pon! I will definitely check that lava rock out, thank you for the tip ❤️ Tamagotchi is so different now. I remember they used to die after a while but now they go back to their planet after a while 😂

I like your videos - hope you continue to make plant videos, especially about Hoya 😀 What is your experience with converting mature Hoya from soil to Pon?
@planthappens
@planthappens 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don't really like moving from soil to pon to be honest. Most of the time I would cut off all the roots if I am moving from soil or moss since they rot in pon anyways.

Thank you for creating this video! Is orchiata just orchid bark? Won't that rot in water? What type of fertilzer do you use?
@planthappens
@planthappens 2 жыл бұрын
Orchiata is a type of orchid bark. They're made of a type of pine tree. However, they are very hard and stable compared to regular orchid barks you find in garden centers and I have not had any rot issues. I assume they will eventually decompose, but I've been using them for 2 years and they are holding up!

Also, I use Indo One fertilizer + CalMag + kelp fertilizer.

Thank you for sharing. I have one question, what was that stuff you were sprinkling in?
@planthappens
@planthappens 26 күн бұрын
It is a product called Great White and it is mycorrhizal fungi which has been researched to help root growth by breaking down the nutrients in the substrate into something the roots can absorb easier. I'm no scientist, but so far my plants have been liking it. I use it often when I repot my plants!

Good video! 😊 I am experimenting with pon for over a year now, but I always have root rot on my Hoyas if i try semi-hydro. It just does not work for me. Maybe this video gave mi an answer to that problem because I used Lechuza pon and did not separate the fertilizer from the substrate. How do i fertilize Hoyas in Pon so that they don't rot away? And whats that stuff you added to the rooted Hoya in your video? Is that fertilizer? Greetings from Austria.☺

I hope this video helped! I water all my plants including Hoyas with a fertilizer called Indo One which is an all-in-one type of fertilizer. I use it at 50% strength of the recommended concentration. I added mycorrhizae inoculant which is beneficial funghi that helps with root growth!

Can I buy ready pon mix ? If yes which one should you recommend? Also where the best to grow Alba Variegated? Thank you 🙏. Love your videos
@planthappens
@planthappens 8 ай бұрын
Yes you can. You can buy one from Lechuza, which I've used for a long time. I usually add perlite to is so it's not too dense. For Albo monstera, I just grow them under a grow light. If you have a very white specimen, you might want to give it a bit more humidity, but I find it not to affect it too much.

Does the pon develop algae? If so, do you clean it off ?
@planthappens
@planthappens 2 жыл бұрын
They do develop algae if you use a clear vessel. I find them to be harmless so I usually just leave them. I soak used pon in diluted hydrogen peroxide solution before trying and that seems to kill most of them. If you don't want algae, the easiest thing to do is to use an outer pot to cover the clear vessels!

I think I just missed the tamagotchi phase growing up so I always heard people talking about them or seeing them referenced in reruns of the shows I was watching, but don't remember seeing them in stores or anything... That or we were too far removed from mainstream for it to reach us 😅

I lived in Japan when in first came out and every single kids wanted it. Some of the colours were rare and was being sold for marked up price. I don't think it was as big of a phenomenon in North America but it's pretty fun for the first week or 2 then it becomes annoying 😂

Because you include orchiata bark in your mix, can you still reuse it?
@planthappens
@planthappens 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have been able to reuse them many times! Orchiata is a very stable type of orchid bark which seems to be much more rot resilient than other orchid barks. You can definitely omit orchiata.
