Really helpful video! Straight to the point and good quality sound. If you can do this with people a little bit more indi it would be awesome too. Like Clairo, Girl in red, Beabadobee, etc

U got my sub dude! Would love if you could do a video on how they set up their analog chain, settings for the Neve and CL1B and most importantly how much db of compression they are aiming for while recording ? ✌️
@yeckxo9 ай бұрын
They used the CL1B to control the dynamics with just a couple of dBs of gain reduction.

Yeckxo has provided some incredible insights on these settings. Just the two videos of Josh Gudwin's settings can set you miles apart. Since I have a Neve 73 and two 1176 compressors, I recommend setting the Neve's input gain to 30 for a cleaner sound. Setting it around 50-60 will help the vocals cut through better. If you have time and a singer, have them record twice with these preamp differences. Use the same amount of effects from the template that Yeckxo mentioned, and you’ll be amazed at the difference. Hope this helps! 🙌🏾

Good quick walk through but a good rule of thumb applying EQ in a parallel setting like that: Always wise to use Natural Phase or Linear Phase mode on the ProQ-3✔
@yeckxo10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tip on using Natural Phase or Linear Phase mode with the ProQ-3 for parallel EQ setting! particularly for maintaining phase coherence in certain situations. However, it’s interesting to note that preferences can vary widely among seasoned engineers. Could you explain more please?
@1679Brandon10 ай бұрын
I think that phase issues impact on low frecuency sources, like bass. For higher frecuency content, phase issues blend with lower wave length, and the eq change is less noticiable as you go higher in pitch. So, for low frecuency content I would use linear phase eq, but there is a point as you go higher when it becomes unnoticeable for all the processing that the plugin has to do, and therefore is better to use it normally
@poppasmoke49339 ай бұрын
And also shut off the analog button on waves plugins it’s just noise :)

@@yeckxo you should always use pro Q on linear phase when performing cuts or brickwalls. if you want to avoid phase shifting you can use a shelf instead, but hard cutting on EQs withouit linear phase will cause shifting
@Dane_Riazer17 күн бұрын
@@yeckxo Using Natural Phase or Linear Phase with low and high eq cuts helps minimize phase shift. Some engineers are particular about this because they want to preserve the original sound without introducing changes from phase shifts, while others are less concerned. Some even suggest using a shelf filter and shaping it to resemble a low or high-pass filter as an alternative, allowing you to avoid the complexities of Natural Phase or Linear Phase altogether.

The 1176 works the other way around other compressors with respect to attack and release
@imhenotic8 ай бұрын
Pay attention to details, that low cut on PRO Q will cause phase shifting on the vocals, to avoid that use it on linear phase or use a los shelf instead, no cuts. Teletronix emulation of CLA2A has nothing to do with the waves emulation, so even with copied parameters you wont get the same result, the closest one is the overloud one.
@yeckxo8 ай бұрын
Hey! Thank you for your feedback. Absolutely, it's highly recommended to use a low shelf instead of a low cut filter to avoid phasing issues, especially on crucial elements like vocals, as I've mentioned in "Sam Smith Vocal Secrets." Also this is the exact settings/plugins they have used. In this case they used UAD LA2A plugin and not the real one. But i got your point.

The fact Josh got a MAJOR artist's session with no pre prep and seperating of vocals just screams unprofessional. What mixer, who is going to mix a major artist gets thier session with all the vocals ( verse , Pre, Hook, Add libs, Junk takes etc) on ONE track.... SMH. I would have fired that Engineer....
