The point he makes at the end is absolutely crucial. You need to know all of the technicals…why do you cut certain things around 200-400hz, high passing tracks so they clean up and image better, ratios, knees, Q and high level automation. But that’s all just the prerequisite. That’s a GIVEN. It’s all in service of your creativity, musical taste and ability to work closely with an artist. That’s the stuff that gets you hired *for real*

@@bhaveshtochabbra6853 Fox stevenson is a well established producer, writer, artist. Which is what made Ian calling him a KZbinr funny. If you look at the Video sol posted, fox talks about why OTT is a bad plugin for phasing reasons. A lot of ppl use it but Fox spoke out highly against it and for good reason. I recommend watching the video. With all that said, does it rlly matter? I mean Ian clearly uses it on top 40 tracks. It's up to user discretion.

i missed the streaming but i have a little tip for the "half time recording", in my country there's a big artist that makes use of this technique in an awesome way (Tha Supreme) if you feel the track is just too fast to sing or rap over it without making mistakes or it feeling like you're actually chasing the song you can lower the bpm by 10-15bpm or even more (keep track of that tempo, don't forget it), just meet your needs, then sing/rap over it normally, then what you do is importing back the vocal and changing the tempo of the sample like you would do with a loop, let's say the loop is 100 bpm and your song is 115, it's the same technique,, in fl studio you open up the sampler and then right click on "Time" in time stretching and then you click "autodetect", then "type in bpm" and you enter the bpm the vocal was recorded at, then in the time stretching corner you set the mode to e3 mono / e3 generic (which sounds best), you'll see the vocal will have a very natural feeling while being faster and also keeping the key it was recorded at. you can do the same with vocals you already have in your sound library

The deeper I delve into music production the more I learn that NO ONE cares about this nuanced level of production. You can spend hours perfecting your snare or kick drum sound and when you play the track for anyone, they will either bob their head, tap their foot or utter the almost standard reply of some other element they didn't like, "It's cool but I don't like the hook, you should do this..." 🤦🏾‍♀️ And then you're there scratching your head saying to yourself, "Hook? Who said anything about the hook? What did you think about those snares?" After so many gut punches like this, I learned to just keep things simple and just make a well put together track. No one is winning Grammy's for a 8 layered synth pad you cooked up over the course of several days. Like 99.9% of your listeners just will not care about that level of sound design. Their brains are pretty lizard and all they want are catchy melodies, rhythms, a beat they can tap their foot or dance to and some catchy vocals.

@@tristantzara9496 Yes! The artist's name carries a lot as well. Same vocals with a standard production effort would've yielded the same results with the push this track is getting from the industry. Look at Adele's new track that is exploding right now. Simple programmed drum loop, with a standard piano progression and Adele's vocals. 🤷🏾‍♀️ This is why artists like Beyonce, Rhianna, Billy Elish, Kid Laroi can produce these uber popular tracks that sound just meh when it comes to the production side. Humans behave like lemmings. With enough exposure and hype any track can become the anthem of the summer. It is what it is. No one hears this track and says, "Hot Damn... listen to those snares!!!"
