I really enjoyed this video, life is all about learning from our mistakes, and we also learn about troubleshooting. I also found out about about the cool Extremerate shells, I really want to make a mod using them!

Thank you so much for posting your process. My brother used to be big into modding and I want to have a crack at modding an old gameboy advance. Want to challenge myself, and make him proud if he’s still looking down at me. I’ll have to check out more of your videos. Thanks again

Man, I've done two of these so far and this guide is pretty helpful. Unfortuantely, neither of them turned out perfect, but for my first two mods I'm happy (or so I try and convince myself). My first one had a fingerprint on the ISP screen, and my second one WAS perfect until I screwed the battery screw in too hard and it left a bump on the front of the system. Almost cried ;-;.

it's the aftermarket screws. also u shouldn't use force on screws. also u can use soda powder and super glue to remove tge broken screw post unless the whole head broke

I'm planning to do this ips mod (possibly even add a lithium battery and a better speaker+amp) and I'm wondering what aftermarket trimmed shell has the best quality. I want the original GBA feel and strong plastic so it doesn't break.
@JakeSimmons Жыл бұрын
I’ve been having a lot of issues lately with shells cracking. It mainly comes down to the screw posts. Don’t over tighten it and go slow and you’ll be fine. I’ve never heard of a shell cracking any other way. But if you have the money, boxy pixel does sell all aluminum shells. Otherwise the original shell is the strongest plastic shell out there. I’ll be doing a tutorial soon on a drop in kit that won’t require any trimming if you want to go the original shell route.
@MMKnight_1 Жыл бұрын
@@JakeSimmons Yeah, the original would be the best. However, I would probably buy the Funnyplaying IPS v2 for the GBA (seems like that's the best screen) and that will require trimming. The trimming needs to be perfect to have a flush fit with the screen and that seems kinda hard to do for the first time.

Putting any wires around the capacitor llike that not a super great idea. As if for any reason the wire nicks you have a greater chance of creating a short, not to mention if for any reason the capacitor goes down the road it will release an oily substance that will get on the wire. Also because they deal with electric current that also means heat so something to keep in mind when putting components next to them. While it under normal circumstances they wont put off a lot of heat a failing/shorted one might. Usually this is the reason resistor and capacitors are not put too close to chip sets, ie right on top of to the point of touching.
@timmm3300 Жыл бұрын
Hey Jake, is there a reason why you didn't tin and attach the wires to TP8 and TP9 connection points as you did with TP2? This is the first tutorial where I've seen it done your way and it looks way easier!
@JakeSimmons Жыл бұрын
I have since switched to using tp8 and tp9 because it’s faster but thats just because I do so many of these mods haha. I do think soldering using the L and R pins is easier though

What kit or supplies would you recommend for this as well as replacing game boy batteries
@darkfireBikes2 жыл бұрын
Maybe try heating the screws up with a lighter or maybe even the soldering iron just to soften the plastic while you're screwing it in, I do that when pre threading 3d printed parts
