Damn... Wish I knew this jumpers years ago when I modded 2 Saturn's... Had to lift the damn pins Well done mate

Thank you dude! So much simpler than the switchless mods. Going exactly the way you did it as the machine will pretty much live in 60hrtz and going for a region free bios

I think that's it for the Saturn for a while. Next up im working on quite a few Nintendo vids, so stay tuned. I'll get back to the Neo Geo as well and then a bulk lot of Playstation repairs

You know the most awesome thing about these VA-0 consoles is the DIP BIOS chip they have, so easy to remove it and throw in a socket, you can easily put in the region free BIOS you like, and if you get sick of the version BIOS you put in, you can swap it out in just a couple minutes.

The funny thing about PAL Saturn motherboards is, that there is a native 50/60hz connector slot available, it was never officially used sadly (the SW4 port on the back, next to the clock battery terminal).

Hello. Thank you so very much for the video. I purchased an NTSC-U Saturn that has this same switch in the back. Unfortunately the console has just a black screen but is getting a signal per my TV. The switch did snap off as it was sent to me in a box that was too tight of a fit, but it was sold as no video prior to the switch breaking off in shipping. Do you think just removing the wires to the board may resolve the problem? I do not solder currently so I don't know if I can repair, plus I'd have to find another switch. If I ever do I totally agree with you about mounting the switch inside the case and not drilling a hole in the poor case as previous owner did. Thank you again.

@Nick O'Brien I think the Pseudo Saturn cart is about the only one you can get hold of at present. As for doing this modding with the switch for 60hz, I know the vid here shows it to be really simple and straightforward, but I couldn't trust myself to even attempt this on my PAL Saturn, as I'd be too paranoid of wrecking my console having spent £140 on the machine alone, never mind the games. I always wanted to get it switched even when I owned my first one back in the 90s, but never did. If I knew somebody reliable then I'd consider getting them to do it, otherwise I think I'll have to go with the region free cart option. One question though, will the Action Replay / Pseudo Saturn play games in 50hz only without the switch, or will it up it to 60hz? Sorry, but I'm not a major technically able individual.

Old video and cant tell, did you end up removing the resister on the jp1 and jp2?
@pezz82664 жыл бұрын
I guess you could just remove the resistor and have it permanently 60hz right?
@SEGAGuys4 жыл бұрын
I’d like to know this too. I’ve had this mod done but I leave it on 60Hz permanently since I use Fenrir and run NTSC games from the SD. If there’s no need for the switch at all, I’d happily remove the mod and let the machine be native 60Hz.

This looks like a VA0, you could have done an easier mod on the SW4 next to the battery.

Hey man, great video. Greetings from Spain. I'm currently doing the opposite. ( modding NTSC-J for 50/60Hz). My mod is exactly like yours, but when I switch to PAL I only get a rolling colour line image. I did not lift that 79 pin at VDC2. My MoBo is VA0.5, it seems to be quite a rare one. I don't have an accurate schematic. But it looks that the jumpers are also tied to the Sony video chip, the Vclock and some other IC as well. Did you finally have to lift that pin ?
@PyhisPahis4 ай бұрын
Maybe you already figured it out, but the reason why you're getting a rolling picture is because you're switching between 60Hz and 50Hz, not NTSC-J and PAL. On a PAL Saturn it makes more sense to do the mod because our European TV's will accept PAL 60Hz

When you do this mod, can you still use the videoCD card with it?
@offimatrix48972 жыл бұрын
there is a easier way to mod it as the switch for 60mhz is just next to reset button next to battery where you can see switch missing. on model one where thy was planning to have it then it got cancelled at last min and kept with pal >

Ooh, doesn't look too difficult. Out of curiousity, I have a Japanese Model 1 Saturn with the PSU seperate from the lid. Would this mod be more or less the same or will I need to use different Jumpers?

Yes the same

This one was a VA0 straight off the bat because the power supply was screwed to the top lid. Another indicator is checking the serial number. If the second number is a 0 then it's a VA0. Example: B5'0'XXXXX...

@nickobrien17103 жыл бұрын
There’s a region free bios chip but it looks very difficult to remove the old chip (glued into place on the board). Much easier to use an Action Replay for region free

Some consoles like the GameCube have both the US and Japanese Bios on the motherboard and you can install a switch. The Saturn is not like this, it only has one country’s bios on it, the original bios chips were glued very firmly to the motherboard before soldering so it’s not a mod for the faint of heart. Your options really are: 1.Buy an action replay plus or a PsudoSaturn (about $30-40 USD) 2.Buy a universal bios chip and most likely pay someone to mod it, risk damaging your Saturn 3.buy a separate console for the country you need to play games for, not sure what the power standard in Egypt is, but this might require changing the power supply for a picopsu style. Of these options, the Pseudosaturn/action replay is the easiest, safest and cheapest option. You can find them easily on AliExpress or eBay, and even if you get charged a lot for import fees I’d still consider it a decent deal at under $100 - you get the 1mb/4mb expansion, the ability to play any region games and if you get the pseudosaturn, the ability to play burned cd-r games
