Thanks for the video. Took me around 5 hours to mod my switch. Went slow and careful. My best advise is to go slow, make sure you keep track of your screws, be gentle, don't over-tighten. The hardest part for me was the springs, hooking back up the ribbon cables. Now that I'm done, I love my switch. Looks brand new and the see thru case looks amazing. Thanks!

i found this video, saw it was less than 8 minutes long, and thought to myself "great! should be a quick project!" it literally took me six hours. and the entire time i couldn't stop thinking "this will never work. my switch no longer has controllers. i can't play it ever again. my life is over." but now i'm done and it looks and works great! i even replaced the broken joystick! no more drifting! to anyone who's got the patience, i totally recommend doing this, especially when trying to replace faulty joysticks (just $10!). and all the tools, buttons, and screws in this video came with the shell and joysticks i purchased. and this video is REALLY helpful! it's not as terrifying as it looks, i promise! just make sure your cats don't try to help you lol

I'll be doing the same. After months, I decided that I'll try to replace the sticks on my old Joycons, and while I'm at it, I'll replace the shell too. Looking forward to the transparent one. Wish me luck, but I don't really mind breaking those old ones, haha.

i actually used this video to mod my switch :). it was VERY finicky with a bunch of tiny ribbon cables (it also doesn’t help that i have really shaky hands), but i got it done :D. the triwings are very tight and i most definitely stripped all of those, especially on the backplate. it looks harder than it is, but it sure was stressful! i’m glad i did it and gave my switch some personality btw it’s pastel blue/pink and looks very cute uwu

Andre Mesa You'll need a prying tool, Phillips and tri wing screwdrivers and a tweezer. Take your time, and place the screws in the same placements that you took it out as you'll need to put them back in as they're not all the same size. Take your time and you'll be good to go. I did mine in about 1½ hours, without a tweezer and forgetting to put the home button back in. I bought the jungle green cross pad shells and I absolutely love it.

Okay so after consulting with the Nintendo Switch Subreddit about my problem with my Right Joy-Con A Button not being responsive like the rest of the buttons, someone recommended me to invest in the tools and try to repair it myself. I bought the E Durable Toolkit and followed the steps in this video to disassemble it step by step (though I foolishly was following the Left Joy-Con instructions for the longest time actually), After getting everything disassembled, I used pressurized air on the A button and put everything back and it's working so far, the second I manage to actually get it back working on my 3rd try was pretty awesome. I'll be saving up for the shells next time now.

a steady hand and its easy. I've replaced defective screen on PSP, modded my gba with SP back-lit screen, and just did this to my joycons. IGN did the LZ/RZ buttons too dangerously IMO. There are holes in the casing that you can pry the button loose and just pop it out without pulling at it. Pulling at it could break, stress the plastic, or cause you to pop those springs out all over the place.

If you’re unsure of doing this shell switch, dbrand has corrected the adhesive in their skins to ensure the joycons don’t get damaged by them. I recommend looking into their skins as they achieve a similar effect without risking any breaking of joycons.

Woo followed this just today! While it's not a super perfect in-depth tutorial it was fine for me. Just keep your station organized, keep sets of screws together. I wound up not unplugging every ribbon, and I didn't unplug the battery or little black square at all, just very careful around them. All in all took around an hour, with no issues! Hot tip: take photos of the board in case you're not sure what it should look like when plugging stuff back in.

I would advise extra caution while detaching the battery connector from the board. Really make sure you pull UP (away from the board) on the cable. If you pull straight out too much, you can pull the wires right out of the connector end. I know because I literally just did this.

Just did this for the d-pad swap. I bought the white one. IT WAS SO WORTH IT. The d-pad feels fantastic, and now side-scrolling games feel perfect. I recommend watching Jerryrig Everything for a more in-depth (and slower) process.
