i found this video, saw it was less than 8 minutes long, and thought to myself "great! should be a quick project!" it literally took me six hours. and the entire time i couldn't stop thinking "this will never work. my switch no longer has controllers. i can't play it ever again. my life is over." but now i'm done and it looks and works great! i even replaced the broken joystick! no more drifting! to anyone who's got the patience, i totally recommend doing this, especially when trying to replace faulty joysticks (just $10!). and all the tools, buttons, and screws in this video came with the shell and joysticks i purchased. and this video is REALLY helpful! it's not as terrifying as it looks, i promise! just make sure your cats don't try to help you lol

i actually used this video to mod my switch :). it was VERY finicky with a bunch of tiny ribbon cables (it also doesn’t help that i have really shaky hands), but i got it done :D. the triwings are very tight and i most definitely stripped all of those, especially on the backplate. it looks harder than it is, but it sure was stressful! i’m glad i did it and gave my switch some personality btw it’s pastel blue/pink and looks very cute uwu

Andre Mesa You'll need a prying tool, Phillips and tri wing screwdrivers and a tweezer. Take your time, and place the screws in the same placements that you took it out as you'll need to put them back in as they're not all the same size. Take your time and you'll be good to go. a steady hand and its easy. I've replaced defective screen on PSP, modded my gba with SP back-lit screen, and just did this to my joycons. IGN did the LZ/RZ buttons too dangerously IMO. There are holes in the casing that you can pry the button loose and just pop it out without pulling at it. Pulling at it could break, stress the plastic, or cause you to pop those springs out all over the place.

I would advise extra caution while detaching the battery connector from the board. Really make sure you pull UP (away from the board) on the cable. If you pull straight out too much, you can pull the wires right out of the connector end. I know because I literally just did this.

Nice! Now I have something to reference when I start customizing my switch. Very excited

Just did this for the d-pad swap. I bought the white one. IT WAS SO WORTH IT. The d-pad feels fantastic, and now side-scrolling games feel perfect. I recommend watching Jerryrig Everything for a more in-depth (and slower) process.

Will not void warranty as there was a supreme court case about that and now you can open them up and modify cases and such

But you will need to put the original casing back on before using the warranty.

I’m doing it this week when the pieces come in. Replacing the back plate, and all 3 joycons. I’m a little nervous... BUT, I can say I’ve worked on more complicated equipment that was much smaller and more expensive in the Marine Corps.

Thanks for the video... Easy to follow and I now have some sweet translucent green joy cons!

Finally decided to try it, Took only 6 hours for my first try, most of which were the right joycon with 5 hours. I messed up one of the ribbon cables but I learned how to do this now easily. :)
