Thanks for the excellent tutorials. As you noted, using the loft feature to complete the nose/tail is challenging. I tried a simple Form Cylinder and after putting the patch on the end, added the spline. The loft failed with invalid direction error. I found that using Surface Patch worked. As you noted, there is a geometry limit on the spline. If it is too big, even the Patch fails. thanks Edit. At 16:24, I bring attention that the line connecting the two points must also be selected. This ensures that there is a closed boundary. As I was not sure that my canvas/cylinder was on the midplane of the plane, I selected Construct/Plane at Angle. I then selected the line (between the two points) and entered 90 deg. I then created a sketch on this new plane. Again Thanks!

Hi Cameron! Using the shell option on a complex geometry like this one can lead to problems very quickly, indeed. I do think leaving it as a surface and adding a thickness to it (there's an option for that!) would be better? Do try it out and let me know if it worked, looking forward to it.

Incredible helpful tutorial series!! What do you think is the best way to create the fuselage of the Airbus BelugaXL? I've used the Sweep function (instead of the cylinder you used) to create the cross shape on the XZ plane and a straight path parallel to the Y-axis as a rail. However I find it pretty difficult to create the complex shape of the nose and tail fuselage parts with just the two handles to manipulate the cross section. Any help would be appreciated!
@TEXDesignEngineering
@TEXDesignEngineering 2 жыл бұрын
Ah yes that's quite an interesting one! The first way that comes to mind is to split the fuselage into 2 sections vertically as well. So you can follow the normal "airliner" shape using the cylinder way I've shown in this tutorial. Then, add another free form body that takes the shape of the "bulgy" part of the fuselage, and add it on top of the main fuselage. Refer to my Helicopter series where I do something similar! Let me know how you get along!

Great tutorial!! Thanks for taking the time. I have one question, When you are modelling the nose, the cross-section is not round or oval, but it has a specific shape that you didn't follow maybe for ease of explaining. Is it possible to edit the first station of the cylinder of the main fuselage to match the nose cone shape, and from there to the loft? The shape is more like a triangular shape distinctive of the 737. As for the tail, the section where the stabilizer matches de fuselage should be flat, can we edit single sections of the cylinder to make them flat? BEST REGARDS
@TEXDesignEngineering
@TEXDesignEngineering 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cristian, you are right. For simplicity, I didn't model the triangular shape. You can change each span station of the fuselage. Your method could work! You could loft the circular section of the main fuselage with a triangular section for the nose, and add some rails during the loft to guide it properly. As for the rear end, I'm sure you can edit each section in the T-Spline (free form) workspace. Let me know how it goes!

Please can someone help. I am attempting to model a HP42modellin. The fuselage I think needs to be in three parts Rear, Cabin and Nose I have modelled the Cabin shelled it and cut the windows. I then Lofted of of the rear of the Cabin to a sketch of the tail cross section. Now I come to the Nose, I have projected the front cross section onto a new plane, I can then draw the side profile but I need to project a couple of points back onto the Nose cross section . I can see the two sketches but when I try to edit the nose section sketch the fuselage side sketch disappears. I have a couple of other sketches ie windscreen and I can see multiple sketches just not the one I created off the projection WHY?
@TEXDesignEngineering
@TEXDesignEngineering 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Laurie - thanks for reaching out! Thanks for the detailed explanation to your problem. Try this: 1) Make the front cross section first (the projection of the front of the fuselage). In the folder tree, rename this sketch to "FrontProfile" 2) Create a NEW sketch on the side, this is where you draw the nose section from the right side. Make sure your "FrontProfile" sketch is still visible. Project the point you want from from FrontProfile onto this new sketch. Once you're done, rename this new sketch to "SideProfile". 3) Once you're done, make sure that BOTH SKETCHES are visible in the folder tree. The little light bulb icon should be on :) Try this, if this doesn't work, send me a message via textheexperience.com/contact

Hi Pixel Rabbit, sorry for the super late response - just finishing my final year at uni. Regarding your problem, did you sketch on the correct plane? You want to sketch on the same plane as the front of the surface, that's where the circle's geometry lies. Alternatively, you could create a new plane on that same surface, start a sketch and PROJECT that circle onto the new sketch. After all, you only need the geometry of the circle to loft. Let me know if that helps. Feel free to ask more if that wasn't clear :)

At 9:08 you're completing the fuselage demo. You keep saying it "looks good"... but what If you need exact dimensions or curvatures ? Example' the line on the top of the cylinder keeps getting adjusted but its supposed to remain exactly horizontal while the belly curves upward. How do you know the top of the plane is exactly horizontal after adjusting ? What if this was a cad drawing for manufacture. "looking good' isn't enough.

Hi Shawn, as I said in the first tutorial, this series is meant to be an easy step by step tutorial for everyone to follow on. I also mentioned that if you want to go into more detail, you can use these tutorials as a basic foundation to build upon. If you require more accuracy, then you can look up how to use the basic tools in more details. For example, when you're talking about keeping the top of the fuselage horizontal, you can look into how to get better at using T-Splines and use those advanced techniques on top of what I've already shown here. I tried to keep these tutorials as generic and easy as possible for everyone to follow, not to turn someone into a pro. I hope you understand and appreciate the time and effort that has gone into these videos. Take care

@@TEXDesignEngineering I have a serious question about the design process of aircrafts, as you are an aerospace engineer, you are the right person to ask

Is this also how boeing, airbus etc does it? of course, it can not be as simple or approximated-to-blueprint as this, but at the very least, the surface modelling phase, before all the details, is this at least near how it's done? just out of curiosity I'm asking, as I'm also an engineer but not aerospace.

When you say cut, do you mean splitting the circular section in half?
