Buddies a wizard in f360, took me some time to figure out all your tricks as you move quite fast; but it was worth its weight in gold just seeing how a proficient master can effortlessly navigate complex layout tasks. Well done, sir!

This is super helpful and you were right about needing to hit the pause button a few times. I think you may have left out a small point about using the d21 and another dimension from sketch 2(0.254) in the change parameters tab to redefine the linear dimensions of the offset values from the pitch line...When I reached the point in the drawing approximately 7:38, my drawing looked different and the belt did not match up with the offset lines ...I think yours may have been similar but when you edited the video it got cut out. I got through it and I think I have achieved the same result just thought I would mention it in case others experienced a similar issue. I am still pretty new to modeling and this was an interesting challenge and very educational on ways to implement parameters to utilize different formulas. Thanks for the content! I'll be watching out for new stuff in the future.

Absolutely crazy to me that there isn't a full specification by the creators of the GT2 timing belt that isn't available readily. There are belt specifications available but no timing pulley specifications? lol who would of thought the first thing that the engineers using your product would like to model belts and pulleys. Thanks for this video Dan. The pattern around a path was what I was after!

@@i-make-robots Thanks, yeah but I mean the people who made the timing belt, Gates. Could have easily made this as a source of truth. Also I don't think these account for the internal teeth squish factor (outside of belt curvature != inside belt curvature)

At 2:30 you put in the number of teeth at 90. Where did you come up with that number? It seems pulled out of the air. Please explain.

Good stuff. Timing belts have been giving me fits. Can I use the timing belt body to derive the pulley design? I want to 3d print the pulleys.
@i-make-robots
@i-make-robots 3 жыл бұрын
Qualified yes. I can make part of a pulley from the side touching the belt and then pattern it. I cannot then tweak the edge (Q key). Making a new sketch on the flat side of the pulley with a projection + offset makes fusion freeze for several moments. so does the cut from the offset region. Better to model a single tooth, cut it from a disc, and then repeat that around the disc.

This is a pretty old video, so not sure if anyone will read this. But I was giving it a try with some other properties (5mm tooth pitch, belt diameter: 425, pulley 1: 75 teeth, pulley 2: 15 teeth), and the calculated center to center distance turned out to be incorrect. The calculated result was 86.9472mm, but by measuring the path, this meant that the belt length would be 425.842 mm. If I used a manual center to center distance of: 86.4425 mm, the belt length was correct. So I'm not sure why the center to center distance is incorrect. I'll take another look at it tomorrow after a good night sleep. But so far I havent found the issue. Any help is appreciated.

outside and pitch are two different amounts. The pitch line is determined by the math in the video and the number of teeth on the belt.

Are you trying to impress yourself or give a tutorial? Slow down. Going as fast as you can has one goal in mind and that is to make sure that those listening cannot follow you because your just too good right? I get your point. It's not about the what's being taught but everyone noticing how fast and how knowledgeable you are at this. Oh.....but the outcome is suppose to be the learner keeping up with you? The great genius belt maker? Who only few can keep up with? yeah I know it's something like that.
