The m54 cam will be timed as stock cams. I haven't made separate video how to time the cams, but you can see it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJuudq2dl5ufnNEm53s Don't get confused by the exhaust cam timing. The stock exhaust cam will be timed like the intake cam. Just check that the end square is vertical compared to the head.

I would strongly recommend to keep it cool while cutting of by either holding it in the water of using the special equipment with coolant flow. Otherwise metal mircrostructure would change and you will get creep process start going soon.

I have seen 213hp / 298Nm at crank with the m54 cam and ecu remap. The stock engine gave 200hp and 291Nm in same dyno. So it makes +13hp and +7Nm compared to stock engine. You will get the same hp number also with stock but the torque gain will be less. Also there will be small dip in the power output because the vanos map has to be modified for m54 cam. So the remap is not mandatory and you will get hp gains without. But with remap you will get even more out of your engine.

That 244 degrees info is wrong. It's 228 degrees on m54b30 exhaust. It's even marked as that in the stock ecu SW. Also all m54 and m52tu have identical exhaust cam (same part number). There is no benefit from that.

No need to modify/swap the cam tray. You will get like 200-230 hp depending on your engine condition and tune.

Yes it does work very well with stock exhaust cam. And m50 non vanos intake cam can be machined to be exhaust cam in m50 vanos and m52 engines. It will give that same 240 degrees and 9,7mm of lift to teh exhaust side as the m54 intake cam.

And do you have any experience with chips from ebay, for some reason they turn o2 sensor off. I think M50B20TU has siemens ms40.1 ecu and not bosch motronic as other m50 engines. And far as I know there is no ebay chips for those and even if there would be, you would need to solder that in. And getting those ebay chips, you never know what has done to those. I would not buy those, because the benefits are very minor compared to the risks. Just get working lambda sensor to your car.

tripazzzz you need change the vanos map axis so that the vanos goes off slightly later. like at 4800 rpm. No need for other changes. If you modify the light thortle maps wrong you might get very badly working engine.

No it doesn't. The non vanos intake cam is different. But it also has the same 240 degrees of duration and 9,7mm of lift as stock ;) you can time it differently to get more hp of your engine but then you will lose almost all of your low end torque, because you don't have vanos in your engine.

The vanos isn't going to break as easily as people let you think. Of course it can brake down but if it does, it's quite easy to fix. Mostly the problem is rattling noise and that can happen in m50 vanos engines and in early m52 engines. The later m52 engines have spring plate in vanos that gets rid of the rattling sound (in most of the cases). If you have noisy vanos in m50 engine you can upgrade it with the m52 parts. I have a quick question, I have a 528i with M52B32 engine Dual Vanos and i want to buy cams from S52B32 but as far as i know at the moment there is not dual vanos cams from S52, am I right? If this is not true can you provide me the right OEM cams number part from S52 which will fit my M52? or if there is no dual vanos cams from S52 how I can install them and keep dual vanos working? Cheers. EDIT: I was also wondering if I use S52 cams there will be enough clearance between valves and pistons? Let me know if I can install them or give me some advice, will be really appreciate. s52 won't fit dual vanos engine. You can use the m54b30 intake cam without modifications in m52tu engine but that is the only cheap option. If you wan't more aggressive cams, you need to get those from schrick for example.

I saw 1 pair for e46 dual vanos which will fit my 528, they are 248* degree and lift 10mm on intake and 248* degree, lift 10mm on exhaust. On exhaus they are more agressive from the S52 and between on intake. Is that ok? I mean, what I will gain from that values?

You will probably have 240-250 hp with those cams. Depending on your other mods and about the tune.

Oh.. sweet! Of curse I will add light flywheel M5 kit clutch (14kg full kit > flywheel+M5 e34 Clutch+release disc clutch), shark injector ECU stage 2, complete exhaust and K&N air filter in stock airbox with open front intake. but damn, those schrick are expensive but they so good that I am really thinking about them. That's the best tune ever and I can install them by my self. I will see. Thanx man. you are great, btw...I hope I can do what you do..lol.

My m54b30 camshaft gear has a tooth missing. Does it matter in which direction this missing tooth is pointing when I bolt it to the camshaft? In m52b28 single vanos

No it doesn't on single vanos engine. In dual vanos engine the orientation is more important.

No. It's completely different. Of course you could fit it but it requires machine shop level equipment so this way is much easier.

Hi. Thanks for your video. I have a double vanos m54 engine where those little gears was removed , can anyone assist me in lining both of them up correctly and in the correct way ? As there is no markings to line them with and no locking pin where they lock at a certain point

There is no need for any alignment. The way it works is vanos piston pushes on it by a certain distance, which turns the camshaft a given amount of degrees, based on the timing of the chain. So vanos has no timing in itself, as long as gear is installed and tight, it will rotate the cam by the set amount when vanos activates.

Not a direct fit. You need to trim little bit the cam tray in the m50tu

If it's single vanos, you can't fit dual vanos exhaust cam to it. If it's dual vanos m52, then you can fit m54 exhaust cam to it. But it doesn't really help, because exhaust cams have same specs on all m52/m52/m54 engines, besides m54b30 zhp. If you don't belive that, check the part number cross reference.

Hey paazi! Bugging you again. OBD1 e30 m52b28. Are M54 cams worth the upgrade? S52 cams sell like gold where I am, so that’s out of the question. If the M54 cam goes on the intake side, what non-vanos can would go on the exhaust side?

Yeah. The m54b30 intake cam is really good upgrade for the price. And only b30 intake. Other m54 cams are same as m52. And yeah non vanos intake modified to exhaust can be done. But it doesn't have much effect. Intake only is already quite good upgrade.

m52b28 cams in m52b25NV would be downgrade ;) m50nv has 240degree and 9.7mm lift intake cam and m52 has 228 degree and 8.8mm lift intake cam. To get better cams for m50nv, you need to get cams regrind or buy aftermarket performance cams.

@@haweraki As I said, the m50nv intake cam is more agressive than m50 vanos/m52 cams. So you could modify the m50nv intake cam to fit as exhaust cam in m50vanos/m52 and get more agressive exhaust cam like that. But because you have m50nv, there is no agressive cams available for that in other m5x engines

No you can't fit vanos intake cam to exhaust side because different mounting. Your options on exhaust side is aftermarket cam, regrind cam, s52 exhaust cam or modify m50nv intake cam to fit exhaust side. But m54b30 intake cam only works already pretty well. Changing exhaust side to match, doesn't give much more performance.

s54 has rocker arms so the cam profile is completely wrong for engines without rocker arms. So no. It's better to get the m54 cams regrind or buy aftermarket cams.

I need some advice on my 525i e39 i recently fitted a engine in from a e46 330i .. the engine was a m52tu i use it for a 4 months an it blew the gasket.. i stripped the engine down and found it badly scored in the centre and the bore was worn.. i have the old sub asblemby which i bought the car with.. and the bore seems fine.. my question is. ( can i use the pistons from the m52tu in the original block for this car?) An is there any difference with m52tu cylinder head and m54..

m52tu and m54 heads are the same. But if your engine came from 330i, it's m54. not m52tu. Or am I missing something?

Alex Couto You can take exhaust cam from any m50 or m52 engine. Those are same. For more power, you can get the stock cams regrind or get aftermarket cams.

Saahan tuolla putkisto moodauksella fiilistä ja ääntä. Kyseessä siis E46 328i josta on tarkoitus tehdä jonkin sortin jäärata pelto hauskanpitoauto. Btcf tein jo projektitopikin. Osaatko muuten sanoa, että jos tuollaisen M54B30 imunokan hiotuttaa niin meneekö se vielä bolt on paikalleen vai pitääkö tehdä nostimiin muutoksia. Yes it's same. Only base timing is bit different, but it doesn't matter when installing that as exhaust cam, because you need to degree the cam using dial gauge anyway. But nv intske cam is not direct fit as exhaust cam. You need to machine away about 2mm off the sprocket mounting surface.

@@PocezPanda No it's worst thing that you can do :D It has the too short runnes of the m50, making it loose low end torque and also small diameter runners that do not give the hp benefit.
