How to modify the shocks on the Axial Early Ford Bronco to lower the CG and ride height

Learn how to quickly and inexpensively lower the ride height of your Axial SCX10 III Early Ford Bronco to improve the stance and lower the CG for better handling and stability. You will need a M3 x 25mm socket head cap screw to complete this mod.

Thanks! I am really happy with the shock mod as it lowered the CG and made the Bronco more stable. Only downfall is the tires do hit the inner fenders at certain articulation and steering angles.

Great tip on lowering the ride height. I imagine that is going to have a pretty significant positive effect on the stability of the rig. For crawling and trailing. Great video, thanks!

Thanks Mike. From the limited running I have done before and after the shock modification, I can say that the stability is greatly improved with the lowered ride height and then improved further by adding ballast to the chassis. I have a few sloped garden areas around my house that are covered in loose rock where I did my initial testing and again after the modifications. The Bronco felt a little tippy at a few spots when going up the hill and turning a corner. I had my hand near the Bronco in case it started to roll. With the lowered ride height and ballast, no problem at all running over that same area. It looks and performs better, so a double win in my book!

For the people leaving the suspension as is if you get a problem with that front driveshaft popping apart on full extension you can put just a bit of soft foam down in driveshaft each side and it will keep the piece in middle center🤜

Perhaps shorten the shock travel by putting a small spacer around the shock shaft.

I think it probably going to my next step. I am looking at using 1/8" rubber fuel hose from an RC plane as a bump stop on the shock shaft. That will impact before the suspension bottoms out on the chassis.

I did this mod on my Bronco and the rod-ends kept popping off of the balls. Any idea why it would do that? Thanks

I am thinking the shock is impacting the axle and that is causing a side load that is popping the shock eye out of the bushing. I know my shocks touch the axle housing and I can see that being an issue that I might have to solve. Some washers to space the shock further away from the axle housing might be enough to fix it. I assume this is happening with high articulation angles? Where one side of the axle is fully up while the other is fully down? That would be the position that would side load the shock bushing and cause the axle to push against the shock.

no, they are Axial Corbeau seats. They are too small for the Bronco, but aren't too bad.
