How to mold and cast a gear. This video will demonstrate how to make an copy of something with a resin and silicone rubber, step by step.
First, I want to say, thanks to you all who have visited and watch videos on my channel. I hope this tutorial can be useful not only for me personally, but also for all of us.
This is my first experience using a resin and silicone rubber, where we want to create a gear replica, which was originally made from plastic. Though not perfect, but I've been quite happy with my first mold and cast experiment.

Nice project and great final parts. You can even add CSM (Chopped Strand Matt fiberglass fibers) to the resin to make the parts even more durable and strong. You can buy a lot of 1/8" or 1/4" chopped fiberglass for a very little cost, to add to the mix. It will certainly add to the strength. Now you need to cast aluminum gears. Just an idea... Thumbs Up!

I have a lot of problems with the air bubbles!!! Which have cause the molded gear to missing teeth:( How did you dealing with the air bubbles?

Curious how hard the resin is when cured. I have two gears like those that one drives the other and causes wear. new parts have to be as hard or harder than the original gears.

I assume that you are using polyester resin? This resin can get very hot, warp & crack as it sets if in thick pieces, such as a gear. Have you had any of these problems? & have the gears stood up well to meshing with another gear?

An easier containment box for your molding process would be to cut the top inch or so off of a plastic cup and use that.

In indonesia the price of silicon rubber like this price is about 20 $.. but i don;t know how price in your country... And you can use/reused the rubber mold repeatedly, as long as the rubber mold is not damaged

It sways because the surface for the molding and casting hardening process was not strictly level or square (object being made not accurately perpendicular to it's base all around, which in this case is critically important). So the product geometry resulted being deviant from true center. It didn't evenly stack up. Not good if you want interdependent gear castings to mesh decently with each other.

There is very little point popping the bubbles on the surface. The only bubbles you need to worry about are ones next to the component you're using as a pattern

I imagine gently tapping the containers both during the mould making and resin casting would help trapped air to rise to the surface.
