How to mount tires by hand: Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R

Stretching new Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R tires without tire machine. These tires have very stiff sidewall so we need some special tricks to get the bead seated properly. Wheels are custom made by me. Those are originally e30 stock bottlecaps (14x7") but I rebarreled them so the size is now 16x9,75".
I will also show how to balance the tires, but for this you will need balancing machine.

What's the size of the tyres? I'm looking into doing something similar, but on lower budget - 205/50 NS-2Rs on 9Jx15, they have pretty stiff walls too.

Those are 225/45 a@ 9,75" wide wheels.

What is being sprayed on? What are the metal tools used to flip the sidewall over the wheel hump/lip? A little more info wouldn't hurt.

That's a regular tire iron, and the spray was a regular deodorant (it just needs to be highly flammable.)

+Stiofan e36 13,5 s @ 188 km/h using street tires with very little traction (wheel spin even with third gear). Haven't yet tested these tires on 1/4 mile but at east on street I can launch the car with no wheel spin.

Do you have any footage of the process you used to create the wheels? I'm very interested in doing something like this myself. I've been looking for aftermarket wheels that look like my bottle caps and this seems like the more personal/economic way of doing it.

ahhh I see, so you bought a deep dish lips and barrels for it. modified or cut out the e30 rim ,drill holes and bolted them on. do you have a link to the gallery?

when you spray it with the brake clean it's easier to spray it around the bead and light it instead of just trying to fill the tire and lighting it

Brake cleaner works quite badly because it doesn't explode. It doesn't work for stretching the tire because that. But in normal case it can be used to help seat the tire.

Vinkkinä noihin painojen poistoon, ite oon käyttäny muovista pyykkipoikaa. Lähtee aika nättiin ku painoissa on vähän paksumpi liimakerros ja kärki pääsee kiilautumaan sinne alle, eikä vahingossakaan tuu naarmittua kumeja.

Why wouldn't you push through the back side first then then use the irons on the back side of the wheel and avoid any damage from the irons whatsoever? StI'll do exactly what you did but with the tire flipped over the other way is all I'm saying.

Because the ONLY side of the wheel you can mount a tire from is the side the drop center is closest to. Some wheels have the drop center toward the front and some toward the back and that determines which side the tire will mount from. It's not like you really have a choice as the rim design has made that choice for you.

+Glimmz why would you do that high chance of damaging the rims whit the spoon i know if i bought new rims and tyres i would want to do it Correct whitout damaging rims or these but hey thats my opinion as a mechanic and i understand my view sounds exagerated nut i know how easy its to damage rims .thank you sir

Yes there is risk of damaging the rim. But if you know how to do this, you won't leave a scratch. And of course for our missile car, little sratches just gives the wheels more character. And about that speed. This is much faster way than pack the wheels and tires to car, drive to the dealership, get the tires mounted there and drive back 20+ kilometers. And this is also lot cheaper. Last summer we saved almost 1000€ by doing this by ourselves. And as it was said earlier: The point was to show that mounting tires can also to be done by hand.

These are semi-slicks so the side wall is quite stiff. You are just using wrong technique :D

@@pazi88 yeah, i figured it out. Not sure why the front of the rim its easier to place the tire on and get it off. Still a pain, but not impossible--was really trying hard not to scratch my 6uls. -_- ugh
