I'm going to try this tonight. Our temperature here in East Tn isn't going over 70°F for the next 2 days. Hopefully, they won't go back to the place where I had them. I will post how it goes. It's a 5 frame swarm box, so I will use 5 strips of paper.

Please let me know how it goes, and did it work for you

I certainly will. Do you think that magazine pages would work as well as newspaper?

1:17 "Regular newspaper, not glossy..." Magazines are glossy paper, so no.

Very old method and successful. What was new to me was the use of the newspapers. Until now i used grass or thick leaves .
@silverlakeadventure Жыл бұрын
Yes I have never seen anyone else use the newspaper for this purpose. Usually people use grass clippings or leaves. Thank you

Great idea - you share so many tricks of the trade. On a medium sized hive with 8 strips of paper how long will it take for them to chew through the paper? Is there a time later where you take off what remains of the paper strips? I suppose in a southern state in the middle of a heat wave you wouldn't want to try this. Have a great day.

Hello Russell 👋 It will take bees 3/4 days to chew through the paper and slowly release themselves out of the hive. Leave what is left of the paper for at least two more weeks because bees will use the paper to recognize their hive and their new location. As far as direct sun and heavy nectar flow I would not try this. Thank you 😊

Curious if you have additional ventilation for the bees? is the newspaper with the small holes enough?
@silverlakeadventure Жыл бұрын
It depends what time of the year you are moving the bees. Usually I don't put any additional ventilation I just make sure bees have feed on them. Thank you

@@silverlakeadventure i need to move hives 1 km away and they're new packages installed a few days ago. Not too hot here right now, maybe 12-15 degrees Celsius. Just want to make sure they don't suffocate!

Do you use screen or solid bottom board
@maggiewatte79112 жыл бұрын
Just double checking. With this method they don’t need to be moved 3 miles away

Hi Maggie 👋 Yes you are right. With this method you can move beehives any distance no matter how far. Thank you
