Жыл бұрын

Hey y'all, we are back with another video! This one is a segment we recorded for our friends at World of Warships and their annual 24-hour live stream known as "The Longest Night of Museums". Definitely go check it out on their KZbin channel as they feature many museums we have not been to and gives you an idea what those museums are like without having to travel across the world.
While this segment may have been for their live stream, we thought it was a good review of both the task of moving the Texas as well as the work which has been going since.
Of course, if you have any questions feel free to ask!
If you would like to see the ship up close and personal in dry dock, check out our website for tickets for a dry dock tour. They run every Sunday from 8AM-3PM.
battleshiptexas.org/drydock/
If you would like to support the ship but cannot make it for a tour, check out our online ship store in which the proceeds go to helping continue this project.
store.battleshiptexas.org/
Be sure to also follow us on instagram, facebook, twitter and our update page in order to stay up to date on what's going on around the ship!

Went to the San Jacinto monument today to visit the museum and see a demonstration firing of a Texas independence era cannon. It was sad to look over and not see the Texas in her resting spot. She's been there since before i was born. 😔 On the other hand, I'm SO glad to see her getting the attention she needs and deserves. I'll be doing a dry dock tour tomorrow morning. I can't wait!

I understand the feeling of wonder, of standing on the floor of the drydock and looking up at the underwater hull of your ship for the very first time. I had that experience with both ships I served in. It sounds very like everyone who was involved in preparing your Lady for this move took every precaution, as you said in preparing backups to the backups in true Navy fashion. On a personal note, I've played World of Warships since Closed Beta testing. My "Fleet is quite extensive, but one of my favorites is USS Texas. For me she is a consistently tough competitor, straight shooting and hard hitting. Take care of her Travis, she is a wonder.

A fascinating story , a massive effort and organisation by many who love this great old shipto get her into dock .Travis had a unique experience and described the tow with such enthusiasm . Some amazing discoveries which will help preserve steel vessels into the future , bilge water being such a danger for corrosion and the effects of hydrostatic pressure were a big surprise to me . When you consider Texas is not much younger than the Titanic and the only surviving WW1 vintage battleship it's a real tribute to many people who have helped preserve her over the years .

Could you possibly make a video showing us the interior rudder issues ??? Rust can be removed and metals can be coated, but you stated that cost was the issue... Hence, it sounds like a broken gear or two... Being a third generation engineer (retired), a dollar says replacement parts can be designed, milled and installed without removing the rudder... There are dozens of machine shops that would volunteer their time for such a treasure...
@zeedub8560
@zeedub8560 Жыл бұрын
A book I have on Battleship Texas printed after her last drydocking mentioned that the rudder mechanism is essentially a fused block of rust. It's way more than replacing a broken gear or two. Also, I'm sure they'd love to know the names of these "dozens" of machine shops willing to work for free.

Why put the blisters back on?? They were not original to the ship. Strip those thin sheets off put her back the way she was and your good.?
@BattleshipTexas
@BattleshipTexas Жыл бұрын
When the navy added the blisters to the ship during the 1925-27 modernization, they gave the ship an added 3,000 tons o buoyancy. So the navy took advantage of that and added about that much weight to the ship in armor, equipment, ect. So we need the blisters to give us enough buoyancy to be able to leave the dry dock when the work is finished.
@trevortrabeaux4
@trevortrabeaux4 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree and understand with the foundation putting the modern torpedo blisters. In short she needs them for floatation. Texas underwent refits that added the original blisters, but also added extra weight. Without them, she wouldn’t be able to leave the dry dock. Not to mention these new blisters were created to minimize tight places where water can collect and be near impossible to get out. To be fair, think of this battleship as a melting pot of history.
