Fourteen years later and still helping out. The broom handle idea proved vital. I had a 900 lb safe delivered and had the guy put the pallet exactly where I wanted the safe. Problem was that when I moved off the pallet, it was now about two feet off center. The broom stick - black pipe in my case - made it so much easier to shift the safe back to center. Thanks much.

I just bought a safe and your tactic with the broom handle is ingenious. Goes back to the time of the Egyptian pyramids. 👍🏻

My 115lb wife and I just removed our 1,100 pound, fire-lined, model 3627 from the shipping pallet, by ourselves, using this method. Not easy, but totally doable, if you're careful!

I've used pipes under heavy equipment to move them. It's amazing how easy it is.
@lovebug84824 жыл бұрын
But how would you get a safe from the safe to a car trunk or in a truck...a ramp?
@oilhammer044 жыл бұрын
@@lovebug8482, It is best when you can use a low trailer or even a tip bed and then wench it up onto the trailer. You can tip something heavy like a safe onto the bed of the trailer (with something soft to cushion the safe). Then a couple of guys can lift the bottom of the safe and slide it onto the trailer bed.

I remember learning this as a lesson on how not to move a safe off a pellet onto a polished marble entryway of a $3M Florida mansion back in 1979. The memory still haunts me of how that fire safe, built like a five drawer file cabinet, slid off the pallet just like 4:15 and gouged or took a big chip out of the Bracia Italian Imported Marble floor. I know your floor in the shop is just concrete but it seems like you left evidence of your lesson/technique on your shop floor. That's to be avoided, no?

Maybe a moving blanket or padding for the corners?
@josephsfields8 ай бұрын
@@MeganPlays To answer your question, any forethought or preparation for what could happen would have saved the damage that was done when that safe moved on it's own due to gravity. A furniture pad would have done the job and saved thousands of dollars in damage. There were six guys there and anyone of them could have said, "let's put a pad under this corner". It would have been another normal day.

If you need more leverage you can use ratchet straps and 2x4's to make it artificially taller
@markomendoza49605 ай бұрын
If you don't have broom handles, you can also use copper water pipe, or electrical conduit. I've moved safes with both, and the more pieces of pipe you have the quicker you can move it from place to place on a hard, flat surface.

Need to plan floor protection even someone's old drive is a pride an joy. Also a strap or tie 8 inches from top would give you some more control.

@mattgeb84 We only make safes 5ft or taller (that balance very well), so it would be best to ask a manufacturer who makes small, heavy safes, that question for the best response.
