I find it funny how hard people in Hawaii scour the internet looking to deter people from coming to Hawaii. You're living there for $900/mo, which is way less than half of what it costed me to live in Los Angeles. Hawaii seems like a great place to live, as long as you have a stable income -- just like anywhere else.

$900 lmfao where were you living??? Mines $1250 small ass ghetto apartment. It’s the most expensive state. She said it small island - lots of people. Hawaiians end up homeless or moving to mainland - that’s fcked up!!!
@vela-63 жыл бұрын
@@orianabrostek Right now there are 10 places on Zillow for $1k or below. I'd say 3 or maybe 4 look ghetto, the other half look nice. I guess you just have to check around.

@@vela-6 and then when you go to look at the rental it’s very small and doesn’t look like the pics. And then they tell you there’s extra fees that they didn’t mention in the description - yea yea I’ve went through the renting process multiple times and apartments are usually not what they seem. Almost got scammed twice as well.

Great video and info. When I moved to Oahu, my first job was in a Waikiki tourist trap stocking shelves. A nice Chinese lady was kind enough to hire me. Got the job through an employment company, which took a chunk of my first few paychecks. While I was looking, one local shop owner actually told me "We don't hire haoles from the mainland." Be prepared for that and keep trying. I finally got a job at a shipyard, making good money. Then I quickly had to learn pidgin! Real fun kine stuff, dat.

@ajcoastal4 жыл бұрын
It is not an option for me, just a suggestion overall. The north shore is the country so there arent many options which is why its typically a short term place to live for many. I got a degree in marketing and have worked in the field personally.

This video was made on Maui a few weeks ago, but the situation is the same on Oahu. Until the thousands of long term local residents who are relying on charity for food can get back to work, no business is likely to be hiring people who just arrived in Hawaii. She will be home on the mainland by Christmas. The economy of Hawaii is almost entirely dependent on tourism. With the pandemic currently getting worse, rather than better, there are tens of thousands of unemployed Hawaii residents right now. The way things operate in Hawaii, you pretty much need to know someone to get a job. Family or friends who can hire you or recommend you to a local company are essential. Until the unemployment rate among native born Hawaiians or people who have lived there for several years comes down, they won’t be hiring any new arrivals. Many long term Hawaii residents are moving to the mainland already in n search of jobs. This is probably the worst time in history for a new arrival to find any sort of job in Hawaii.
@ajcoastal4 жыл бұрын
I actually had a super easy time finding a job! There was still plenty of business where I work and they were hiring on tons of people at that time.

@@brajieajohnson1411 well I’m grateful for being able to grow up in Hawaii and have family here, but I’ve never lived anywhere else so I can’t compare it to another place. I will tell you everything is expensive and many times me n my bf always have one problem after the next. If something breaks or one of our pets get sick, we gotta really think it through because services here can be sketchy and if they screw you over you’ll end up wasting money.
@orianabrostek3 жыл бұрын
@@brajieajohnson1411 ngl I’ve had two bikes stolen... or I should say one was taken apart and another completely stolen - found the locks cut. My bf had his bike stolen, car battery stolen, got his car broken into on a separate occasion and they took his paintball guns worth $2,000 😣 got that same car towed because parking is scarce and we weren’t sure of where we could park. Public transportation is sketch. Apartments are small/sometimes ratchet and always expensive. Jobs are hard to find especially now b/c of covid, local companies have shut down and Hawaii has one of the highest unemployment rates rn. If you don’t have family here, its better because you have someone to lean on. But yea most times if I’m not with my bf, I feel like I always gotta watch my back and be careful if I want to go out. If you live in Honolulu, there’s a lot of homeless and drug addicts. I always find “baggies” and sometimes needles on the ground 😓 and tbh the beaches on Oahu are kind of crappy. I found a diaper at Ala Moana beach. Kailua beach used to be nice and now there’s micro plastics in every square foot of sand. There are a few nice beaches but those are secret 🙃 I do enjoy hikes though and the scenery. Hawaii is good if you’re an outdoor kind of person, just got to work hard if you want to have extra spending money.
