How to move & transplant a Trachycarpus Palm

Banana Joe talks about moving and transplanting a Trachycarpus fortunei Palm. We were at Katherine's Garden on Salt Spring and she wanted them removed as they were blocking driveway. Katherine has a beautiful subtropical garden that was started with her late husband Vlad. thanks Katherine!!!!

Never thought you could just dig up a Palm tree with such little root... 🤔🤗 Look out Palms... I'm coming. Just got a small off shoot from a Sago palm from my neighbourhood pavement. 🤗 i couldn't believe my eyes. Think it fell off while mowing the lawn around it. I live in the Caribbean. Trinidad 🇹🇹 to be exact. Loved the Video ‼️♥️👋🏾

It looked like the roots were about 2’ deep? I have 3 wind mill palms in raised planter boxes that are 12” to 16” deep X 3’ 6” x 3’ 6”. But I raised them up due to bad soil and now this winter this area is wet during our rainy season. Do you think I could get away with making my planter boxes taller and replant in a taller box. These palms don’t like to have the roots in standing water is what I have read.

I was given a good sized Trachy at the end of March but it had been dug up and left for a week or two... I planted it in a large hole with good soil and took off most of the leaves, watered regularly. The two leaves are green but it has not grown an inch after nearly 4 months in the ground... I'm hoping it is putting energy into its roots and will bounce back next year. We did have a very cold spring here in south east England below zero celsius almost every night in April 😬

If I may ask a question about Windmill palms... when should a frond be cut off? If it's just going brown or only when there's an actual cut or break in the leaves or stem?

We only cut of the brown fronds or ones that are on there way out. Some people like to leave the fronds on completely ... gives the palms a whole other look. Depends on what you like. We only take green fronds off when transplanting a larger one ... so the energy can go to the roots. (minimal stress in transplant)

@@Nothingfailzi’m also in 7b and i put one in the ground in early may like maybe may 2nd and it is doing well. i just transplanted one yesterday too so we’ll see how it does
