I know what to do and i think i explainend it poorly but you may be able to get my point,in short "after the migration does the system turn on as if nothing ever happened but from the SSD instead of the HDD? or does it still need all the fresh windows install steps and setups along with activation?"

If you have a smaller SSD that u want to clone to from a bigger size HDD then for it to work easily you first MUST "shrink size" ur C: drive partition to as much as you can using 'Disk Manager' and mostly D. Manager would choose the size automatically. Once shrunk the empty Unlocated space will be untouched, then you will be able to drag all partitions from the HDD to the smaller SSD in cloning process! Worked 100% for me. Now onced the new SSD boots up and running fine, relaunch Disk Manager and now you will 'Expand' your Windows C: drive partition by selecting it & right clicking it. This process will just take a second and now the Unlocated space will merge into the C: drive as one & you will have use of ur whole drive's space like it was with the old hard drive!

I was completely and utterly confused as to why the SSD wasn't showing up as a boot drive in BIOS. I have no idea why my Windows 10 OS categorized them as that, but it did. Great video. To avoid having to physically pull the old drive, I set it as first priority in BIOS before doing the clone. When you restart, it boots to the SSD as first priority, but will revert to HDD if something goes wrong. It worked for me because my system is a few months old so I haven't had too much time to pile a bunch junk in the HDD. It helps to get the largest SSD that fits your budget. For me, that was 480 gigs. My HDD is 4 TB. Plenty of space left after the transfer, which only took up about 60 gigs. Now I'm going to use the new system SSD drive with the HDD still connected and exactly as it was, but not as my primary boot drive. I'll wait a month as suggested and reformat it as a storage drive if all seems good with the SSD. Make sure you take his advice of moving everything during the clone, as opposed to bits and pieces of data. You might think you got all the Windows data in the partitions you chose, but if you miss anything, you may have trouble restarting. Just move everything. That's what I think has happened to those of you who are having this problem. If it's too big, then delete, prune and defrag the drive before you do this. Thx.

To everyone that gets a boot up error (error code: 0x000000e, unable to locate winload.efi): remove all partitions from the current SSD that has all the cloned HDD data (basically like a factory reset) and redo the whole cloning process with Macrium Reflect as stated in this video. For some reason, during my cloning process it created a duplicate copy of the recovery and reserved system which caused them to clash with each other during boot and was what caused the winload.efi error. You can find out how to clear all partitions of a disk on KZbin as well as this guy's channel but a simple search should lead you to it. Tldr; redo the whole process again after removing all cloned partitions.

Thank you so much. Cloned from a 256gb ssd to a 1tb m.2 NVMe and realized I had 700gb unallocated. Couldn't partition that remaining space without disabling the ability to boot from the NVMe even after cloning. Followed what you said and now im cloning with the remaining space on the primary!

I am looking to upgrade my system to have an ssd but i dont want to spend a lot of money so I will be looking at getting something like a 128 or a 256 gb ssd to have as my boot drive. Is there not a way that i can make my ssd my boot drive without having to clone my hdd as i have like 600 gb worth of files/games saved on it.
@g3neralcross9114 жыл бұрын
You can redownload windows on the ssd and then choose that windows as the one you want to run while deleting the older windows

Nathan Manning don’t need to rebuy just have a usb and download windows from their website although you will need to reactivate it. Look up tutorials on how to do this

Slayrie no but just make sure that your ssd is the boot drive in bios (best do this is easy ) or completely delete your hard drive.

Sooo, following the tutorial I coopied the data from my 200GB SSD to my new 1TB SSD because I was running out of space. But I ended up with the new disc essentially having the same space as my old disc, except it now has a 600GB recovery partition. The old disc also had a recovery partition, but that one was 500MB. Now, I'm assuming this is due to the recovery partition being located "last" on my old disc, and any extra space was just allocated to the last partition on the new disc. Problem is, I'm a total rookie, and I have a hard time finding out how to undo the cloning so I can redo it and make the extra space be allocated to my main storage partition on the drive. (Keep in mind that I am a complete rookie. An hour ago I didn't even know the word "partition")

I'm having this same issue, so annoying. This seems like a good process but it's not working very well for me. I managed to delete the recovery partition using an override command and then reformat the entire ssd so hopefully now it will clone the operation system but still have full storage capacity of the new 1TB ssd.

Did you find a solution to this problem? Please share, I'm also encountering it.
@zolr39043 жыл бұрын
OK I found the solution, not sure if you still require it but I'll leave it here: remove all partitions from the current SSD that has all the cloned HDD data (basically like a factory reset) and redo the whole cloning process with Macrium Reflect as stated in this video. For some reason, during my cloning process it created a duplicate copy of the recovery and reserved system which caused them to clash with each other during boot and was what caused the winload.efi error. You can find out how to clear all partitions of a disk on KZbin as well as this guy's channel but a simple search should lead you to it.

You just connect the 2nd SATA and powercable.
@parker99463 жыл бұрын
For anyone wondering after everything's cloned just make sure your SSD is the drive being used now over the HDD for your system. If that's all good you can literally just delete everything or go through and pick what you want to keep on the HDD. You can even delete things like Windows off the HDD but you'll probably have to KZbin how to do that as well like I did because it requires you to change certain permissions to do it.

@FreedomForAll20134 жыл бұрын
No... just no! If anyone else has this problem then here is the actual solution... Go ahead and begin as usual, you'll get the error saying " not all partitions copied, insufficient space" etc, at which point an option becomes highlighted that says "cloned partition properties". Click on the main partition (the one that will become C drive on your SSD and has left over space) and click cloned partition properties. Shrink the new main or 2nd partition to create free space, the same size of the 3rd partition that wont copy (you can test by trying to copy partitions individually but it should be the 3rd one). Now drag the 3rd partition into the new empty space and drop it. Bang! You are now ready to clone all 3 partitions! Also you DO NOT need to shrink the volume and leave unallocated space as this program does that automatically as you can see under advanced settings.
@FreedomForAll20134 жыл бұрын
Quick summary: -click 2nd partition -Click cloned partition properties -Shrink volume to fit 3rd partion in new space -drag and drop 3rd partition into new space -click next
