If you are having trouble with the paywall, make sure to initialize your new drive in the same format as your old drive. My old HDD was GPT while my freshly installed SSD was MBR (you can see these details in AOMEI as well). Using "create and format hard disk partitions," I was able to initialize my new SSD as GPT to avoid the paywall. (Converting and cloning a GPT drive to an MBR drive was only in the pro version). There are still other locked functions like expanding partition sizes to fill up bigger drives than the original disk, but luckily I did not have to deal with that in my case and I was able to use AOMEI with no other problems.

Thank you for the Video sir! 1. Never ever, ever, ever... never, ever, ever... Never, "save" any data/information, etc., on the OS (usually C:) drive!!! 2. ALWAYS "SAVE" YOUR WORK ON ANY OTHER DRIVE THAN THE OS DRIVE!!! Because, you should always "Clone" your OS drive, and "backup" your data drive.This will make "Cloning", and OS recovery, faster and more efficient, with data separated and secure (WHEN the OS drive ages/crashes.) The data drive migrates more efficiently to another computer when it is not mixed with OS programs(Apps for you millennials), drivers, etc. This idea comes from my work with Servers and it seems to be an effective working philosophy for client computers as well.

One thing I'd say to anyone following this is that if you have the ability, then definitley connect your new/destination SSD via SATA and do the clone from there rather than a USB hub as I've found it MUCH quicker (less than an hour doe 500GB drive) than in the video using a USB type hub (I have one, too). Once the clone is done, I simpy detach the old HDD and plug in the new SSD to the same port as the previous drive on the Motherboard (I'm not even sure that's necessary, but I guess it's minor OCD or something).

I did it again without it and still used sector by sector transfer and all my partitions on the 1TB Drive were perfectly cloned, including the three Windows partitions. Swapped the Drives and at first boot all great. Good speed improvements and a lot more snappy. Spending up to $40 for one time use is a bummer, but you get a lot of backup options. This is a nice introduction to cloning drives for backups or just switching drives in your current pc. However, there are plenty of steps that are fairly important that are not covered here. I'll go over the most basic ones that I can think of atm: 1. If you are moving to a different pc after the clone, make sure you have csm etc. the same as on the originating pc. 2. Do a chkdsk and preferably an sfc after cloning the drive, externally or live. Most cloning software will que a chkdsk on the clone if it detects a Windows installation, so don't panic if you get a "Fixing your drive" etc on the first boot of the clone. 3. Make sure that Windows is activated after cloning, sometimes it gets a bit fussy with new hardware, just run the troubleshooter under the activation tab. This works more than 50% of the time. If it doesn't odds are good you might just have to get a new Windows key. 4. Even though this is a 'perfect' clone, there are going to be plenty of software that are going to want it's license re-activated. Make sure you have prepared everything you need for that. 5. Rarely the clone simply won't boot. This is rare, but it does happen. This can be fixed by remaking the bootsector manually. I won't go over how to do that here, but hirens bootcd PE is your friend. 6. NEVER wipe your original drive until you are sure everything is in order on the clone. 7. No cloning software, not even the enterprise versions, guarantees that the original drive will boot after this, especially if you are doing your cloning externally from the OS. The best way to avoid this is to force a bit-by-bit clone. That will take much longer than the other methods(it might be faster to just try and do two normal cloning attempts), but it is a more 'stable' solution, I do not know of a free piece of software that supports this though. (This is extremely rare, for the thousands of clones I've done in my career it might've happened two or three times, but it is a royal pain when it does.) I guess these were mostly not steps per sé, but rather tips and warnings. Would love to see a follow-up video on this, for troubleshooting a non-booting OS clone. It is a great video though, since a lot of people are unaware things like this can be done quite easily and if anything Windows 10 is easier to clone and get running than 7 or 8.
@luriflux40353 жыл бұрын
@Kushagra Sharma I'd recommend taking a look at Clonezilla, been a while since I used it, but it should be capable of rebuilding grub and other bootloaders. I think it still supports bit-by-bit, so thats always an option if it has troubles with your bootloaders. I am assuming you can handle the general wonkiness of it though :)

WOW! Even with the version difference, this video showed me enough to feel confident enough to do it myself. The drive I was dupping was the root C:\ so Aomie rebotted into PT mode and copied the drive with no extra boot disks kludging about my nerd pit. Once the 300 gigs were cloned (took about 40 mins) from HDD to NVMe ir spammed into boot order and selected my new C drive - so perfect I was not sure it worked. After some system searvhing and my handy Drives manager widget, I knew with confidence that the NVMe was not only new, but bmy boot up went from a snails pace to checkered flag on race day. Thanks Jay!!!!!

Yes I did have to subscribe. Also when he said much faster for NVMe. I wasn't expecting it to be a bit less then 10mins. Man that's quick.

it didn't work. it wouldn't allow me to do it for free. it kept popping up an offer for the paid version

Did you choose "Clone drive" or "Clone system / windows"? I think you only can do clone drive for free, which means you have to log in to your microsoft account and activate it again, while clone system does it automatically (as in clones windows "better" kinda).

@@WarriorNN Not working for me either, I think AOMEI changed it right after Jay uploaded. *sigh

Guys, for those having problems with paywall before even clone once. maybe its because your new ssd isnt initialized yet. if you cant see it on windows that means its not. go to disk management, initialize your ssd into GPT then assign a drive letter to it. it will format as NTFS after that its ready to be used for cloning. thank me later if this helps.

so its 8/17/23 and it wont let me clone for free, gotta love it

There is only 12 months in the calendar not 17. Why muricans are so weird?!
@TaraPayne Жыл бұрын
@Jayztwocents Should unlist this video, because the clone feature is now behind a paywall, and does not work for NVME drives.

Samsung Data Migration Software is absolute gold for consumers btw.
@islandcomputers-au3 жыл бұрын
It only works for Samsung drives but hey, why would you buy anything else right? However, Crucial offer Acronis True Image with their drives.
@mattscomp3 жыл бұрын
Kingston also does Acronis with their drives. As does Seagate and WD.

@@LokiDWolf Intresting. In my case every programme showed some kind of error. Tried Acronis, Macrium Reflect but easeus todo worked flawlessly

@@clickbaitpro Easeus, minitool... every single partitioning software that claimed to be free directed me to their purchase site when I tried to migrate my OS partitions. They don't do it for free. They clone entire storage media for free, specifically copying your system partitions alone is a paid feature.
