I have to say that one tip you gave about rotating into the right hip.....well it's transformed my driving today!! I have never hit such straight booming drives right down the middle before, Awesome tips and a huge thank you from me. It has also really helped me hit my irons so much straighter and truer. A true godsend.

I have struggled with a chronic flat backswing and inconsistency in strike and distance for years. I have used every drill under the sun to try and stop my hands and arms going flat and my club laying off and nothing has helped. At least nothing before seeing this video. As soon as I focused as you recommend to stay in pasture and turn into my right hip and right heel my hands went naturally up on plane and everything sequenced into my downswing perfectly with speed and power. Seriously there is no one anywhere focusing on the importance of the hip movement like you do but I am now convinced there is no other more important topic in golf. The proper backswing coil is the secret sauce to everything. This is like a magician exposing the truths of Houdini so all I can say is thanks!

Great description of the hip function (both directions). I must disagree with those few who dis you for talking too much, or not demo swinging enough. We can always watch vids of great golfers doing beautiful swings, but your instructional vids are examples of how words (with meticulous segmented demonstrations) can be worth a thousand pictures(full swing vids). I think the people who don't understand your teaching approach are either not really listening ... or perhaps they just aren't smart enough to get it? If they prefer some of the multitude of other online instructors, let them go watch them instead of criticizing you and the few like you who actually have sensible, comprehensive, and original concepts to offer.

Hi Thanks for your round up of the previous videos. At last a series of videos that explain the golf swing pragmatically. Picked up on parts of the swing I never noticed before. You go into detail of every part of the swing but break it down in smaller sections that in my opinion are very basic to take in and work on. Will carry on looking at your work it’s a pity I don’t live nearby so as to book lessons.

The golf swing, for each of us, is an individual thing. At 5'2" and 71 years old, my swing is very different than a 6'2" 30 year old. I am fine with playing at a 10-12 handicap level from the 5500 yard tees. Here, even some of the fundamentals are different. I have learned to capture the power of a more horizontal rotation-with excellent consistency.

A great explanation of how to achieve the proper kinetic sequence in downswing. As a TPI certified MD my only comment would be that many older people might lack the core stabilty and flexibility to acheive the required "disassociation". Unless they plan to spend more time in the gym or yoga studio they will problable needs some type of accomodation prescribed by a knowledgeable teacher.

I so wish this sort of information was available when i first started playing 30 yrs ago, so much time wasted with what turns out to be total garbage, i.e.path sends it face bends it, club should be toe up at hip height, roll your hands for a draw. hold off for a cut, etc etc This is one of the best channels out there, and the info is pure gold, golfers nowadays have so much good information available and its never to late to make changes. There is no reason why you cannot build your swing on solid fundamentals. Love the way you coach and explain things, keep up the great content Russell.

Just curious on that one point: "path sends it face bends it" - is is not the path that starts the direction of the ball?
@grumpyoldgit8254
@grumpyoldgit8254 4 жыл бұрын
@@Knigh7z Absolutley not, the ball will start in the direction it was struck by the club face and the path will add shape to the ball i recently watched a youtube video where a female golf coach in the states was still actually still teaching it the other way round , when i challenged her and asked her if she was aware of the correct ball flight laws, she said she was but it was easier to teach new golfers the other way, more like she wanted them to keep coming back. How many times have you tried to shape the ball around a tree by following the old ball flight laws and hit the tree. When Track man came along it proved the the old ball flight laws were wrong. Hope this clears it up for you

Good stuff. My consistency has been terrible lately. Push and pulling. Couldn’t hit a draw with any stance whatsoever. Started doing the feet together drill and I hit it 50% more accurate. Even got a tiny draw from it. Been trying to figure out exactly why it’s so drastically different. Going to experiment with the turning into the hip. It’s starting to make a little more sense.

Think you've hit the nail on the head. If you have the movement of the hips down, everything else becomes a lot easier. If you don't, your swing will just be a series of corrections that require a lot of timing and talent to work.

I just simply suck at golf and driving the ball.. When I connect, I can drive it a good distance (for a beginner)... That said, this is great food for thought. Going to try using this information next time I'm on the range and see how well I can drive it and keep it straight. That's my biggest problem, actually squaring the club face before the moment of impact. Thanks for these videos... Going to use the powdered club face to see where I'm striking the ball and using your techniques and tips to try to actually drive it straight.. Here's to a better golf swing!

Great videos about fundamentals of the golf swing. Thanks Russell. I think my problems relates to the dynamic movement of the swing. You describe very well about the first trigger with with the left foot. I have tried this a lot, but the problem is my tendency is that my upper body takes control and I get over the top (right shoulder moves right instead of down). Could you explain how the the foot work works during the downswing all the way through? Overall, I think the legs produce the accelerating power when the back swing is loaded correctly. Thanks.

Truly enjoy and understand the leverage created by the hip rotation and incorporating the downward force of the left shoulder/elbow (always felt that swing speed is created by amount of leverage created (or “separation” in your terminology). The most difficult part for me is in order to create the swing speed through the ball, is the “release” through the ball once the positions are created by a correct back swing and initiating the swing with the hip rotation. I realize, as you perfectly explained, is the type of flexibility and shoulder rotation plane will determine how and when the “release” is initiated with the hands. But that is the point I’m searching for now. Hope further practice can help me find that release point. GREAT lesson! It validates what i believe are the correct “fundamentals” of a powerful swing. Thank you

Russel this was my aha moment with the release today at the range. I felt like I was holding on but have been working on a more rotational transition and not a slide. Lateral bend is automatic but once I added that final piece it clicked. Thanks man. Keep up the great work. Big tournament Saturday so looking forward it it. One thing I will say is that I’m finding it hard to keep my right arm below my left. once I make that initial rotation my right shoulder wants to move laterally. Any drills to help with this and keep that right shoulder down thanks again

Love to watch your videos as you seem to explain pieces of the swing the way I learn. Question is I have been working on swing over a month and at the range or playing daily.. my issue is my right hand wants to release and flip early and when it’s the only thing I think about in my swing I can produce the outcome 60% of the time. Is there a drill or sequencing of the swing that will help ingrained this piece of the swing to help with consistency in repeating or is it just more repetition?

Love your videos, but I see a difference in teaching with the instructors I follow and it seems to be 50/50 in this aspect. Everyone agrees to compress the ball, have forward shaft lean and keep the angles and tilt in the swing. The one thing I'm confused about as I see it taught different all the time is lateral movement in the down swing. In many of your drills, you teach more of the turn your hips, get the glutes back to the starting position on the downswing, and keep your chest centered over the ball without the lateral shift. Others teach to move laterally and down towards the target, which seemingly moves your chest forward in the downswing. Which is correct?

I have the training aids, watched all the videos but you said something in a previous video that made it resonate with me! I finally got it. You said,” the feeling is like sitting down on a stool just behind you and more toward the trail foot.” It’s almost like sitting at an angle behind you and that works for me! I couldn’t get it until you said that. Now, sitting down at and angle back or as I shift forward is what I need to work on. So is it sitting down as you’re moving forward or after you’ve moved forward towards the target? If you can clarify that for me, I’d appreciate it! Thanks!

Should the average golfer try to shift his weight in the back swing and the downswing or is it a feel of pressure movement which moves your weight...or is it both?
@russellheritagegolf

It’s a pressure shift meaning no excessive shift of mass essentially. So don’t move around loads but enough to shift pressure.

So, I've always been told I "slide" too much and all my problems stem from being on the outside of my back foot on the take away. You're saying that's okay as long as I'm into my hip? Without doing it that way, I consciously have to keep my right hip back to keep from spinning out and no matter how much I practice or play it never comes naturally and I will randomly spin out and hit a longer club right of right and then it goes further right. Could this "fault" be my secret sauce? Is trying to get the pressure more on the inside of my back foot on the backswing irrelevant as long as I'm turning into my hip? If yes, what do I need to watch out for as a fault from that position? FYI, I have a 2.7 index if that makes a difference in your answer. Thanks for any help!

Can you address this? What of very overweight men? I think the posture has to be a little more "squatty" in order to offset the belly in front. More bent over at the hips which makes it difficult to turn the hips as you have described. Perhaps a one plane type swing is not appropriate for those that are very overweight?
