I’m working my way through these Awesomw vids now - my lawn is probably 40% Fescue, 40% KBG, and 20% weeds. My goal is for it to eventually become 100% KBG, over a few years of hardcore over seeding. (I am gonna buy 50lbs of KBG Midnight, for 12k feet) I am trying to find a “schedule” for what to do and when to do it, a la Scott’s Step 1 March 1st, Step 2 April 1st, Spray lawn aerator April 1st Cut yard down to 1 inch April 15th Dethatch lawn April 16th Seed and put down KBG-M and Fertilizer April 17th What am I missing or am I just wrong on some things lol - I’m a new homeowner in a very retired part of Northern Kentucky, where every lawn is well manicured lol I’m trying to play catch-up

Thank you! I’d say in regards to fertilizing: the section on fertilizer is solid. If you follow that schedule and balance quick release and organics and do the calculations to determine pounds of N per thousand you’ll have excellent results. One thing about bluegrass in the south is that it can really have a difficult time in the heat. It requires a tremendous amount of water to stay looking perfect. Because of that I water minimally and just accept that my lawn will be mediocre in July and august. But for you September October and November your lawn will be stunning with the midnight bluegrass. Good luck, it’s great hobby when you get results for your work.

@@theperfectcutlawncare oh btw that mower you have - what kind is it? I’m working my way through your videos and haven’t found it yet.

@dbrown992 that is a Swardman Edwin 55cm. It has a great cut. However, it is a lot of maintenance and parts break on it frequently. A lot of parts are on back order and come from the Czech Republic. The distributors in the USA has changed three times so there’s no consistency in support

@@theperfectcutlawncare gotcha - I thought up one more question. Sorry for asking so much lol.. My lawn is like 40KBG 40TTTF and 20weeds or clover If I 1: plant growth regulator 2: cut down to under one inch 3: dethatch lawn 4: Overseed KBG at like 5lbs per 1000 5: fertilize a few weeks after In that order. Can I eventually have the KBG beat out the weeds and maybe after a few season have the KBG beat out the fescue. Basically my question is that if I exclusively overseas blue grass can I reach a point where 90+ percent of my yard is KBG?
@theperfectcutlawncare Жыл бұрын
@dbrown992 I would kill weeds first with an herbicide like Speedzone or trimec. Wait a few days then scalp it down. Then I’d spray the regulator later and wait another week and scalp it again. Then I’d dethatch, and spray tenacity or or some other product with Mesotrione. The id do the overseed. Fescue won’t like being cut low and the bluegrass will eventually take over if kept below 2.5 inches. Your other option could be to just kill it all off, cover with top soil and seed straight KBG.

many people don't mow often enough in spring and fall, or even at all ....they wait till their lawn looks bad in the summer, and then hack it all down; which then they really are just cultivating weeds that do well in the heat and pop right back up, where cool season grass types perform best obviously when temps are milder ....I see yards in my area(Iowa) where they have cleared most of the tree leaves last fall, but then never did a final clean up with the mower; so now in the spring they just leave their lawn like that with matted down debris all over it and again not mow to let air, light to get down, and the grass to grow - waiting until it is hot enough for the weeds to push thru and the yard to look worse is waiting too long
