Also what portland conciders a bad snow storm is really small because they dont have the equipment or infrastructure for it personally it only took the trimet for 2 days but it was only 4 inches of snow and a lot of ice

I spent a lot of time on the trains and buses in Portland, I miss it sometimes. I always felt the vibe of the trains were usually more chill, which is why I preferred taking them over the buses.

A lot has changed since I lived in the Portland area, Native Oregonian born at OHSU in 1970, moved away March 1998. My ususal routes were 4, 12, 20, 52, 54, 57, 59, 67, 78, and 89.

I use the Hop Card to get around town and go out to the suburbs like Lake Oswego and Happy Valley. just moved here recently from Seattle.

Ya you got the yellow / orange line (pretty much the same they turn into One another) and the streetcars so it’s awesome. And easy transfer to the blue and red. Do know the red line ends at gateway so to get to the airport or any other missed station there’s a free shuttle that can help you. This will help improve safety and operations of the red line and allow for more frequency between Hillsboro and Beaverton as they are working to extend the red line.

The buses have racks in the front of the bus (external) that you latch them on to :)

I love love love not having a car!! Apartments, residential homes, condos…it just really depends on the neighborhood and what public transit is around

Can you buy a HOP card on arrival at the airport? Or only at retail locations around town?

There’s a HOP fast pass app you can download! You can purchase one it (it’s like $3 I think) and then add cash value onto it and it will be available right away.

You have made such a terrific and fullfilling video of the Portland public transprtation system, Ilana!! I have lived in and around Portland for three continuous years 2006- 2009! I was there during the construction of the south/ north Yellow, Orange, and Green lines in 2009. I have ridden the WES commuter when it was first oppened a couple of times to head to the southern most point of the Portland Metroplitan Area!!

Actually the streetcar is $2 but if you combine it with any other fare in Portland it becomes $2.50 with the transfer. Prices are going up for trimet single trips and day passes on January 1, 2024. Monthly passes are not changing. How do you purchase a daily or a monthly pass on hop? You don’t. You use your card until you get dinged that amount and then the rest of the day or month is FREE! Great video though. I go to Portland a lot. I wish we had a system here in Seattle that capped fares like you do. Also do know they have friendly ambassadors there on a lot of the trains I’ve seen them they have blue vests so say hi to them!
