It's funny because I remember being nervous about getting locs and how I would be perceived, so I always used to wear braids and twists. One day this guy came up to me and said he liked my "locs" When I was rocking twists. That's when I realised people really have no clue and I should just do me. I'm locked now but to this day I have people come up to me and say they like my "braids". It's cute.

That is too funny! They really have no idea and that’s fine with me. White people love to tell me they love my “braids.” Lol I remember the days when black women used to be somewhat private about what we do and how we do our hair (braids, weaves, etc) Now it’s all out in the open and online. So now everyone thinks they know a lil something about black hair. I love that you’re loc’d now and overcame the nerves of perception! ❤️‍🔥

You look gorgeous. Your locs are so lovely. I'm 8 months loc'd. And loving the freedom it brings me every single day. Excuse me, but what is a grand rising type😅?

Thank you love! Omg you are almost a the year mark, I’m glad you are enjoying it. So the people that say “Grand Rising!” instead of “good morning” are usually afrocentric with a lot of black pride. 😂✊🏾

Hello again. So i am on a semi freeform journey. When i started my locs in 4/5/2020 i was semi freeform then as well. I started with 2 strand twists that i installed myself. I have 53 locs and washed my hair after a week because my scalp was ITCHIN so bad. I thought it was dirty because i was SUPER active back then. But in a few weeks my scalp waa itchin again and thats when i tried tea tee oil on my scalp cause i learned in KZbin University, the benefits of it. I brought a canned peppermint and tea tree oil mixture and when i started using that i went back to waahing my hair once a month. When i became less active i started waitin longer between washes. Once i went 5 months between washes. My hair was still looking and feeling healthy and it wasn't feeling brittle. When Covid calmed down in 2021 i started going to a salon. My stylist washed my hair and used oil and water to retwist...which i was happy about. I learned how bad it was to use globs of gel to keep retwist tight and make sure it wouldnt come loose. The retwist only lasted a few days at most. The salon only does visits after at least 6 weeks. I had to go on disability at work in October 2023. I got my hair retwisted in September 2023. The last time i got my hair done at the salon was the end of January 2024. The salon in wheelchair accessible so i will not go back.

Salons need to think about accessibility. Everyone deserves to be accommodated with a disability. I think washing once a month is fine. Not sure if you should go longer though.

Hey Natalie! Great topic for discussion. I'm married to a Caucasian man. We live in Milwaukee Wisconsin. He says he loves my locs! 😍 So it totally just depends on the person. And you are absolutely correct about the confidence. You must walk in confidence and believe that you are sexy and beautiful. Others will believe you are sexy and beautiful too! 🤩

Oh wow you live in Milwaukee, born and raised? I've noticed that white men love black women with natural hair! I think they just appreciate black beauty. Did you have locs when you met your husband?

@@nattyann Hi! I am not a native of Milwaukee. But I was born and raised in Chicago. A true midwesterner. 😁 I've worn natural hair since 2004. I met my hubby in 2018. I locd in 2021 and hubby has been 100% supportive. He often compliments my hair.

You and your locs are beautiful! I've been loc'd 18 years. I've cut about 13 inches (about 5 years ago) due to some weak spots on the ends from coloring. I love the journey, versatility and health of my hair and don't see ever getting rid of them!
@nattyann

Thank you!! Wow 18 years, that amazing. Your hair must have felt a lot lighter after you cut it. How long is your hair now? It must have grown back already. I love that you’re loving your journey that’s what it’s all about! 💕

@@nattyann Thank you, and you know my hair has never been heavy, with the exception of when it's wet. Length wise I'm consistently at waist length with a some that have grown past that. Another fun fact about me is that I don't retwist my hair. I haven't had a retwist since 2012! I just love the fuzz and NOT seeing my scalp lol. I have to be careful though because these things will definitely grow together and it's time consuming to have to separate them. We each have our own journey though, glad you are loving yours as well!

Where I live at Washington state blk women are almost invisible to most of the blk men here they are into other races of women so they don’t really be paying attention to blk women luckily I am married for 8 years now to a man from Africa so I don’t really care rocking my locs is for me regardless but the other day I did get a blk man walking behind me laughing & making comments to say my locs aren’t real I just looked at him when he passed me I didn’t say anything because for me I don’t have to prove if my locs are real or not long as I know I been growing them from my scalp for almost 5 years now is all that matters

Girl you aint neva lied!! I lived in AZ and many men behave the same way (not all of course) I would like to think it’s because there’s more whites and hispanics over there and less black women to choose from. But some of them are self hating too which is the sad truth. Anyway, congrats on your 8 year union, that’s beautiful. I been married for 4 years now, my hubby is black American. - See what I’m saying, they really don’t have a clue! What a weirdo! 😤

I love women with locs tbh but I love in Los Angeles and dating is well 🥴 I've never dated a women with real locs. The girlies love the faux locs though 😂 But out here you def see the hoteps and older white men shootin all they shots on the locced up girls. I exclusively date Black women but even that's hard in LA as far as options go. But my crown is always respected 👑

Dating in LA is probably like "the wild, wild west" lol One thing I know for sure is that the girlies love them some faux locs. haha The real loc lovers are built different tho 🤩 The hoteps think we "know ourselves" and the white guys are just happy to apart of it lol I just love MEN WITH LOCS. I need to do a dedicated video for ya'll 😍

@nattyann
@nattyann Жыл бұрын
Have you heard anyone using that term?Some people prefer to say “grand rising” in place of “good morning” because “morning” sounds the same as “mourning,” which refers to grieving the death of someone. They try to be very intentional with their words, since words are powerful. So the people that say “Grand Rising!” instead of “good morning” are usually afrocentric with a lot of black pride. 😂✊🏾 How old are you? And what is the max age you would date? I know it may hurt when you don’t feel seen. Always remember it’s ok to take up space, walk around with your head held high everywhere you go. Not everyone is meant for you anyway. That’s why I mentioned “decentering men” and spend time doings things you like to do! Pour into yourself everyday. Usually when you’re into yourself, the right person will notice you and the rest will be history!

12 years older is a big gap. The older we get that gap doesn’t really matter that much. Do you feel as though you had a lot in common with them?
