My evaluation is coming up on Wednesday and I was underpaid immensely that doesn't even meet the high cost of living. This came at the right time for me as well. You know upper management in every company does not understand the value their workers brings that they pay them based off of what they thing market value is. Mind you they are making six figures while their workers burn themselves out but trying to make ends meet.

@@andylacivita just as I suspected. I received my salary increase and a whole 5%. It was the highest they could go. On the bright side I already accepted an offer from another company that nearly doubled my salary and is a hybrid position. For me that is a win in my book. Now I don't have to feel bad when I hand in my resignation in October.

Andrew, I just wanted to thank you for helping me cement this in my mind. I was transferred to a different department but for a higher position. When I brought up comp there was some push back because salary budgets are usually decided for a calendar year. This didn't stop me from asking them if they were going to hire a new person what they would pay and I brought up the market value for the position. Of course I also showed I was grateful for the opportunity. But I also decided to take advice from another one of your other videos where you discuss negotiating salary at a new company. You always mention that when your stock is higher then you can negotiate better. I started at the new department without much clarity on my comp. As soon as I started showing my value, my new boss loved my work. So I asked about the comp again and he bumped up my base salary almost 10%. And he will raise it again another 10% in January with higher bonuses than what he originally let on. It's amazing how advocating for yourself while building your stock pays off. Thanks for your guidance!

Great videos. Lots of really great tips. The only question I have is when it's a promotion are you expected to share what you are looking in compensation or wait for them to make an offer. In all of your videos on the new job you recommend waiting for an offer. Since you already have the job it feels like you should set a number.

I listen to the video three times, excellent! Turning the situation around is great. What a strategy. In attempting to do this with my boss today with negotiating an increase, I felt prepared and had documented accomplishments. I tried to have him make me an offer for a raise and he turned it around, and I asked him again what a fair increase would be and he said he didn’t have one due to not being prepared to offer me a raise for another 3months. I have worked there 1year today. So I said a number (17.6%increase) and said he could get back to me. The job has literally doubled in size in the last 3months. Any suggestions on if he makes a counter offer?

One of the owners was currently doing all the things I have been taking over for him and they plan to add more to job after this transition/promotion. How do I start the conversation of a salary increase if they don't offer it first? This is technically a new role to the company. Hey Andrew! Im coming up on my first evaluation at my first corporate job. I was temp for 3 months and was hired on as an admin assistant, 5 months into that role i was promoted to cash management (handling funding for IRA, deposit checks n send out wires) i still handle all the requirements of my previous role on top of my new role and the pay was only 5k more. Not sure how to negotiate my first round of evaluations but hearing what my coworkers got during their first evaluation was sad because it was less than 3% and they have more experience in the industry and have seniority over me so i am not sure what my ideal number to negotiate for would be. I have a settling number in mind but i already have doubts. Any advice appreciated

Should I bring it up a few weeks before my final review to remind them of my expectation ? The last thing I want is having to wait another 2-3 months after my performance review for them to actually start executing my expectations. In the service industry I have always been told Office personnel are are generally payed less than technicians as office personnel are considered an Expense where Technicians generate revenue. I transferred to an office position 3 years ago from my technician role within my company. I have effectively used your techniques to earn larger annual performance raises (Thank you! BTW) but I this last year review gave me the feeling that they were nearing their limits. While I could transfer back and make significantly more money they state they NEED me in My current role as I do a lot and I have knowledge/ experience in our niche business that isn’t easily found. I feel that if I should be compensated at my highest earning potential as the company as I am effectively being penalized for my industry experience/ knowledge. You have stated to ALWAYS negotiate your pay raises, I anticipate a standard 5% increase which I would not be happy with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've taken a position that was previously done by three people and they still refused to pay me at least the standard salary for just that one position. It was more valuable to them to sabotage my career to boost their narcissistic ego than to save the company some money, which they would see none of. What happens in big corporations often is motivated by very sick people who are attracted to management positions. Easily half of these managers are narcissists.

Hello, i would like your advice on something, when i first started my job, i accepted the initial offer they presented, which was low compared to the market value, fast forward a year into the role, i was offered a Team Lead position with just a 12% pay increase, which is very low for a Team Lead position, i asked for almost 60% more than my original starting salary as an agent, could i lose my job over this very high ask? I should mention that before i gave them a number, my manager told me after i made her aware i was inclining to pass on their offer, that she will fight to get me more, and that she values me, but now i am concerned that i may have aske for too much and they may think of me as presumtuous or a jerk basically, any advice? Thank you

How did that end for you? I'm sure they won't fire you for just asking. I think it would help to bring in proof of other salaries that pay what you are asking.

I currently work for an organization and have realized I'm grossly underpaid over the past few years. Anyways, my boss, who started a month ago, just set up a meeting to discuss my position and a promotion. In order to be paid market value for the new role, I would need to ask for a 35% raise. Is it absolutely ludicrous to ask for that amount?

I made a sideways move into the shipping department of my company after seeing an ad where they were offering $30-35/ hr for A class truck driver a field in which I have 20 years experience in. A huge increase from my $28 in the service department. They offered me $28.50! I got them up to $31 which I thought was decent. Then a fellow driver told me I should ask for more as he is getting way more to the tune of $37.50! I feel lowballed and undervalued to say the least. I met with HR and they deny there was ever an ad stating $30-35 and want me to wait 3 months till the performance review before further raises. I feel lied to and like a sucker. My skills are in huge demand, I feel like leaving.

I’d leave, that sounds like a toxic culture. They advertised it then lowballed you base on your existing salary? Even if you get what you want won’t you feel resentful about all they put you through the get a salary that they already advertised it at? It’s wrong and telling you to wait till performance review is just another tactic. I’d be out if you can. If you say the industry is well paid for what you do, why not go somewhere else?

Hi Andrew so my situation may be a bit different I'm not sure but I have never asked for a raise. So here's my situation... I have only been at my job for four months. However, when I was initially hired, I was brought on as an admin assistant. I think once my manager saw how capable, organized and efficient I worked she made me her assistant and I became an assistant project manager for our company which is a commercial plumbing company. After that I she basically started training me to take her position as a project coordinator since she was taking on field jobs as project manager due to us having many projects running simultaneously. Short story, my manager (the owner's daughter) quit two weeks ago, they also lost three other employees one being the accounting managers assistant. So now I'm invoicing, doing my job and my former managers job. That's three jobs for my one hourly paycheck. I don't think it's fair and the owner as well as just about everyone else has told me what a wonderful job in doing but that's not enough. More responsibility means more work and more deadlines mean more stress 😬 I think I need to ask and just take your advice but I'm not good at asking.

@@andylacivita hi thank you so much for your reply. I've decided to switch jobs and start interviewing. My boss is always making comments about people wanting to much and taking advantage of him. I don't have time for this nonsense. I'll give him two weeks notice and go once I find a better fit paying what I'm worth.

Y’all help me I’m a machinist that’s making $23.75. Other guys with less experience, work ethics, and degrees. Like I can run a crane, I’m a millwright certified and machinist. Top pay is 29-31 medium pay $25-$27. I need $26

When I was a crane guy and when into the millwright app. It took them hiring 3 guys. So that was me plus 2. Instead of giving me $5 back then. They had to hire two more guys and pay them at least 14 -15 an hour. This makes no sense to me. I want to stay at this company. I’ve been there for 10 years. I don’t want to have to leave. Cause it’s totally uncomfortable.
