The thing I love most about your videos isn't that you give great advice, which you do, but that it feels like you're talking to me personally, not like you're giving a big speech to a large audience. :)

the thing that stuck with me most was when you said "There is no perfect." Its just I realized that thats exactly why i don't pursue many things and miss out on so many opportunities trying to got to expert level before even beginning. i realized i kept saying to myself ill go for it when i'm better and but the bar just keeps getting higher so ill never get there or ill miss out on so much trying to get there. So i think i'm gonna go for things now get rejected and go again LOL Thank so so very much im not sure you'll ever realize how much you've helped me.

I love how one is able to somehow "interpret" your moves while drawing...I noticed that, because I've seen all of your videos, I kinda know what stroke or move your going to make, for example when you finish off with the white highlights, every time you just lightly stroke the white with your hand as if you're kinda thinking "ah maybe that was too much, just blend it out a little.." :P I love it! - And I reallt gain a lot from the things you're saying and your advice. It's awesome, thank you. Keep up the good work, it enlightens the world :)

As always, an incredible people sketching video! I loved the part where you were talking about meeting Jeff Smith and how you just froze up! Haha! I'm making my plans to attend Comic Con this year, and I've lost count on how many times I've watched your people sketching videos in preparation for it. You've really made an impact on me both in art and in striving to be a better person, so thank you and please keep doing these! They're a huge relief, and especially on this lonely road of an artist I seem to have found myself on!

Ha! When I saw you post the sped up version of El Fabio I KNEW it meant we were getting a new people sketching video! It did not disappoint one bit! Thank you sooo much for all the advice you give us! Sycra actually put it into words what I was thinking in that it feels like you're talking to me directly. I like to draw while I listen to you talk and something about how you talk/teach fuels my creativity juices. Can't wait for more videos!

Oh wow, every time I watch one of your videos I learn something I didn't even know that I needed to know, but you've helped my mindset so much! Have you learned about all the artists you mentioned by gradually hearing about them through others you know, or do you encounter a lot of peoples work for the first time at conventions or something else? Also, I love the mullet.

I always find your videos inspiring! I'm trying to do better myself in many different ways (not only in arts) And one of my failures is networking. I find your words very inspiring Will. I wish I could've learn that those things in school back then. When there's so many questions you wish you could ask your teacher, but you're just too scared to get laughed at. The schools I went to, people were all like that and eventually you get stuck with that mindset that you gotta follow the teacher and stop asking questions, which sucks! It's not easy after when you're on the market and you're scared to ask questions, it makes the contacts very awkward. YOUR DRAWINGS ARE AWESOME MAN!

The fun thing for me about digital painting is I can take Fabio... rotate my canvas 90 degrees to the right and as a background paint in the grand canyon. In front of him there would be a big fan blowing lots of wind in his hair I'm just a hobbyist but it seems to me a storyboard and animation artist would not just sketch people in portrait style... that would require a smaller scale of drawing though, with more but still just enough detail It's what I run into when I see your sketches on a rectangular screen ;) flip it sometimes! it's ok to do

Awesome advise as always! Sometimes we get too focused on getting things out of people and we bed up forgetting that they are indeed people! People have relationships. It's not all about taking and seeing what you can get out if somebody. I'd like to add that when asking questions that you must consider what it is you are asking. If it's something you can learn on your own, or takes too much time out of that person's day, it might be something you reconsider. There's been many times where I've asked irrelevant questions, learned it on my own and realized how silly of a question it was. Some things you just have to learn by doing. I really appreciate your videos man. So much knowledge that helps us become not just great artists, but people also.

I love your videos! One thing I really, really, love about your People Sketching videos though is how you look at and view people XD You don't just acknowledge weird things about people and then turn away like most people do, you actually do something creative and funny with certain extraordinary experiences, and the way you do that makes it feel like it isn't always such a bad thing to be weird sometimes. It can be funny. I certainly wouldn't mind being one of those weird people you sketch XD

Heya Will! Don't over think doing tutorials man, just do it your way, be yourself. That's what got you an audience in the first place. Of course your drawings are amazing, but to me it's your personality that got me hooked. Hell of you ask me you're just as much as a Guru as an artist. So go do that tutorial, blabber into that microphone, explain what comes naturally and we'll all love you for it ;)

The Amazing Colleen Doran did a gig years ago with a company that made Fabio themed merchandising. Yes, that Fabio. And one of the things that company gifted her with was a cushion with Fabio's face on it. Doran told on a podcast, with the most brillant elegance, that she used the cushion on her drawing chair, so that for years she sat on Fabio's face to draw.

Hey, Will! I really love your videos. I'm an animation student, and I want to pursue a career, or in some way work within the field of animation. I haven't watched all your videos(yet), but I just wanted to say that you make me feel like my... I guess ambitions for the future as an animator and artist are attainable goals, that it's actually possible for me to work with something that I love. I've actually met Neil Gaiman at a book signing, and I was incredibly nervous right up until the point that he walked into the room. Seeing him and speaking to him(even if it was really brief) was really wonderful, he's such a nice person(I even got a hug!). But just seeing him as a real, living, breathing human was really... nice. Knowing that successful people who work in creative fields are, well, people, and not fabled beasts of the creative arts who breathe fire or something is good to remember if given the chance to approach and converse with them. It makes networking less scary. But I don't know what I'm talking about anymore. Thank you for these videos, Will!

That's pretty good advice. I was wondering what does one live off until they finally land that job. I think the problem most people here would have is not being patient and persistent, rather not being able to sustain themselves long enough until they actually make it. I guess thats why eveyrone gets rushy, its a matter of life and death literally. Thoughts? Thanks for the video : )

Hey will, thanks again for sharing the wisdom I probally would never get from real life teachers ;) Anyways, its a real coincidence that your talking about networking, because i'm going to attend the Behance Portfolio Review community in Amsterdam tommorow.. And I didn't come up with a strategy or something to network with the attenders.. But I always had in mind to just talk to them with a good sense of humor to break the ice, and show some interest in them instead of talking about our Portfolios and stuff, and let the rest flow out. ..Guess your advice wasn't that much different then mine :) Thanks again teach, you always deliver :)

I've drawn all my life but I literally have done nothing with it and I feel like my style and talent have only grown so much because I've gone on way too many hiatuses or just loss of inspiration... I feel old already . Anyways. I feel like I can learn a ton from you. For now can you tell me what were you outlining this cartoon with? Is it a micron type marker?. Also what do you usually draw things with before using markers on them because most things I use (black marker, pencils ) smudge into the color when I start applying marker color :/. It's annoying. Thanks again will I'll talk to you soon!

Hey Will, I thoroughly enjoy your videos and have watching them consistently over the past 10 months or so. I'm am always eager to refer your videos to friends and class peers in my industrial design course. (Especially the Old sketch books) I humbly accept that I am in the 'its a good thing i don't know exactly how bad i am' phase. I would really love to see a video that overviews Caricature theory. (If thats even a thing.. o-0) I've combed KZbin and the web, and nothing.. pragmatic.. really exists. Ironically I moved from San Diego to Cape Town South Africa to study design, so the Watts Atelier is not an option :..( Thanks for hearing me out Will. Interested to listen to your thoughts. - Dan

Will I enjoy drawing and want to get more into it, but I find it really hard to find that spark to make me pick up a pencil and draw. Any advice? I lack creativity very much and when I want to draw its usually at night when im in bed.
