I almost burnt down the RV. Did you know that you can burn your cord and cause a fire even if your RV is pulling under 50 Amps?

The guy telling us about the amps in the panel is wrong. A 50 amp plug coming off a 50 amp breaker will be good for 50 amps per phase

Actually a 50 amp RV service is 100 amps. Each leg is 50 Amps. The 2 50 Amp breakers at the pedestal are only connected by the bar attaching the breaker switches. The same holds true for your breaker panel. If you were pulling too many amps your breaker in the RV or the breaker at the pedestal should "pop" and when one side "pops" the connector bar will make the other side "pop" as well. This is standard electrical code because both hot leads utilize the same neutral wire.

So this video made me even more lost on to how an not have this happen.... Like he had everything on an was pulling 20ish amps, Add another 120v AC an that is another 15amps max right? So why would this happen EMS or not? Was he plugged into an older 30amp outlet? Was his Line/plug crap I don't get it

@@dizzlethe7346 First off, without doing a full forensic analysis of the RV wiring and the pedestal all I can give is best guess from knowledge of Electrical and RV. The most likely cause of the plug burning up is a poor connection at the pedestal. The outlets in the pedestals at RV parks can get worn out and when the connection gets loose, the connection will actually generate heat (it becomes a resistor), enough hear and you melt a plug. Also a dirty plug or outlet can do the same - picture dirt on the plug - plug the dirty plug in and there is a gap between the copper prongs of the plug and the female receptacle of the outlet - now picture electrical sparks jumping from outlet to plug (you wont see it with your eye but it will happen with a dirty plug. An EMS may have helped as it looks for low voltage and if there is a loss of voltage from the poor connection the EMS would have either alerted you or disconnected power. Remember EMS and Surge protectors are to protect your RV and your RVs wiring. That plug is BEFORE the EMS/Surge not after.

Better to err on the side of believing fewer amps than more.

Great video! Ver easy to follow. Now my problem. Last week a GFCI plug literally burned in my kitchen. It fried the insulation off of the wires in the outlet box too. The only thing I had plugged in was a 1500 watt electric quartz heater. Lights in the same room are also on that GFCI, as they went out too. I bought a new GFCI plug but after opening up the outlet and seeing the depth of the issue I decided to hold up for an electrician and am still waiting on him or her to get here. When I looked at the wiring that was attached to the old GFCI plug, it appeared that it was incorrectly wired. Prior to this I constantly had to change bulbs out in the same lights. Two questions: Could my heater and a few kitchen lights have burned the GFCI; or could incorrect wiring have caused the issue? By the way the frig and microwave are not on that GFCI cable.
