Thanks, everyone for watching and sharing your (good and bad) drone experiences with us! The first rule of drone flying is (1) Know your surroundings and hazards... (2) keep the drone in line of sight...(3) If you didn't update your firmware, you are not a drone pilot.. (4) use a DJI Mavic Air....You wont crash (5) Use propeller guards until you get the controls and modes nailed down...Spectacular drone...

Nice video and very useful guide on what one should not do:) I am quite new to this drone hobby, and learned my first lesson today while flying below the trees on a beautiful walking track, when battery bar hit the home icon. As the drone was set to automatically elivate upto 50m before heading back home, it just tried going up immediately, I got confused and couldn't stop RTH, it just went up quickly and met the branches, damaged 2 of the propellers and fell down, luckily the landing sensors activated and saved it from the crash landing. Some time you learn the hard way :)

When my battery was about to die I was flying under a tree... I tried to land it where I was but.. NO it just went straight up and hit the tree leaves. 🤦♂️ next thing I see is a drone coming straight down to the ground. 😭 Still working just fine... it seems that thing was made to crash.😂😂😂

Crashed 2x into water. The second time killed it. I've gotten some beautiful shots of moving water, but it wasn't worth it. The sideways movement and thin branches in the sun (the sensors can't always see everything) were what got me. I sent it back to DJI for repair. They sent me a new one. This is very expensive if you don't have DJI Care Refresh ... which I did not. Now I do. Landing with a low battery also is nerve-racking (especially if there are people around) as it drops fast. Lot's of learning with these, be careful.

Sorry, to hear about yours. Yes, we’ve also used to cancel the battery low signals a lot cause they come super super early. However, we try to don’t do that a lot less often, especially when in critical situations or too fare away. We take extra care now 🙊.

great video Bugs & Bears. Most entertaining. Mavic Air is my first drone. I too crashed it into trees out at the lake, full on, fast as it could go in sport mode. My eyes and line of sight were off by 2 meters and luckily, make that miraculously, it corrected itself 5' before impact to the ground. It slew a bunch of leaves and branches during the fall of almost 15 meters, but there was not propeller damage, no body damage and the gimble still worked. My only disappointment is that I wasn't filming when it hit the trees. I'm heading to Vietnam this winter for a motor bike ride south and hope to take some great shots with this perfect little drone. DJI has done a great job. If you have any suggestions for me on how to film jungle please share.

I got sideways into a tall pine tree, climbed it (CRAZY), fell and broke my pelvis! Ouch! Ambulance broken ribs... When the Mavic starts to auto land using up throttle will let you over-ride the auto land to zero percent battery. Emergency use only. I was starting to think you were an idiot, but then I realized I've done the same things. Sometimes WORSE! You just have to learn from your mistakes, or learn from others. The motorcycle wrong way wasn't too swift! :-)

Hey Gedgar! Thanks for dropping by! Yeah, man! Sorry to hear you broke your ribs + pelvis while recovering your drone! That sounds terrible, but makes up for a good story 😅! Glad we can all share some of our mistakes to learn from each other! Keep it up!

i have the mavic 2 zoom i strongly recommend u upgrade... yes the air and spark are very portable, but the mavic 2 that comes w the fly more package with the grey sling type bag, still folds up and is very small for how stable and of course its obstacle avoidance is top notch, i have literally tried to smash into a wall and as long as you have some flying experience you should be just fine.... you need to practice for a year on a cheap drone u dont care if u crash, then when ur skills get up there spend more for a nicer drone, but my mavic 2 i would feel comfortable doing anything that you just showed... man stop your adventure man your destroying your drone!! is money that disposable to you? if so can i come along and travel with you? ill bring my drone and we can compare the pros and cons while we vlog while traveling!!.. let me know be safe and god bless, -peter joseph

Hey Peter, thanks a lot for watching and your comment on the Mavic 2 Zoom. I'm sure it's a great drone and we've considered getting it, but the price point and the big size aren't fitting our needs. That drone brought us some really decent footage and just fits perfect into our pocket (important as we're a lot hiking etc.). Don't worry, that video is from more than a year ago, when we were just starting out. Happy flying, bro!

Crashed our first Mavic Pro in a skyscraper in Frankfurt🤣 Gimbal ripped off, huge crack over the whole body... But still got 400€ selling it on Ebay haha I recommend not to use the return home button if not necessary. It is always safer to return it home manually having full control!
@bugsandbears6 жыл бұрын
Ouch 😂! That sounds like a tough one. And the skyscraper survived 😜? I guess we were luckier with our crashes so far - hope they're not gonna get more. Fingers crossed 🤞!

Jep skyscraper survived! 😉 Just touched it slightly to go on a 20 fall on the middle of a four lane road. I was lucky that at that moment no cars were passing by. Otherwise it could have cost me a lot more money...

Since then my heart is always pumping when flying the drone haha Ah forgot to mention that we crashed it again in a tunnel in Ella, Sri Lanka. Sensors got confused with the walls and crashed into the left wall of the tunnel. Luckily just at around 1.5m height so only a couple of propellers were damaged 😅

Glad to hear that we're not the only ones. It's unbelievable how sturdy and resistant these small quadrocopters are. Have you got some kind of insurance?

Just wanted to let you know that you can set Home where the RC is, so if you are moving the home is where you are, You have to have the RC with you.

Thanks, Malek! Yep we've learned that meanwhile. Unfortunatley dynamic homepoint is not very reliable in remote regions.

I always get worried flying my drone that I'm going to lose it! I can imagine it's so easily done. The return to home feature is terrifying! I hate it when it force lands too. When you're on a boat as well, returning to home will be in the middle of the water, haha. I'm sorry you lost your glasses but at least the drone was okay. I really enjoyed the emotional montage of the glasses, haha. I had my first drone crash recently when I flew it into my house in sports mode. Luckily the propeller was only scratched. I'm curious, how many batteries do you take with you? I have 2 for my Phantom but i'm taking a brand new Air with me on my next trip and only have 1 battery. A little concerned it won't last long enough!
@bugsandbears6 жыл бұрын
Omg, yes! We also constantly fear it won't come back, especially since the reach of the Mavic Air for us is mostly within 1 and 2 km and then it loses signal (first phone, then remote). We always get goosebumps, but so far the automatic return in case of signal loss always worked out well. 😊 I'm fine with the loss of glasses, the only thing that sucks is, that they were optical sunglasses, so now I need to wait for new ones to be manufactured and brought to Indonesia. So, a couple of weeks with just my regular glasses 🤓. Uuh.. that sounds like a bad crash, especially when being in sports mode. It speeds up so fast 🏎! Did you crash the Phantom or your new Air? Regarding the batteries: We have the Fly More combo, that comes with a total of three batteries, and I have to admit we're really happy about that. Almost every single time when we fly, we would usually use all three of them. Sometimes you only get around 15 min of air time, which is really not that much - especially if you want to experiment with different angles and scenarios. Depending on your luggage constraints I would definitely recommend you to get at least 1 or 2 spare batteries. Curious about your decision. 🤙 Matthias

Should've use auto track on the motorcycle

You're right. But we wanted to try a different kind of shot, not being possible with auto track - only manually.

I really feel ashamed to share my drone experience... It crashed it at the end of the world in Patagonia. The idea was to launch the Mavic from the backside of a ship... while it was sailing. Everything seems to be clear and safe, but I didn't think of the flag pole at the back. So the drone lanuched, flew for 1-2 secs and hits the pole. Makes a final 3 spns and dived into the deep and freezing water of the Pacific. Really really sad and stupid.

Oh no, we're so sorry for your drone loss! We can totally feel you! Luckily we still have our drone, but every once in a while there are still risky situations!

You guys have been really lucky with the drone, but some times it just worth it to make epic shots, which you definitely do!! I crashed my Mavic Pro into a lake (which it survived). Most of the time I fly with a spottter (my girlfriend) and I always return at 30% battery to avoid situations like these. Great video guys, subscribed and looking forward seeing more of your adventures!

You're right, sometimes a risky situation brings back really decent footage; but we've learned a lot over the past view months and try to de-risk as much as possible. Sorry to hear you crashed your Mavic in a lake - and omg - even more crazy it survived! You're so lucky!

In the beginning when I flew my DJI Spark I didn't think about where I was when it started to beep in the controller. I saw in front of me how it would land on a rooftop nearby where we live. Fortunately, I managed to interrupt the automatic landing and steer it towards the general lawn outside our house. Next night when I started from the back of our house and flew over the house, my iPad lost contact, I ran in and out on the other side of the house pointed the hand control towards the drone, got in touch and pressed the RTH key ch thought it would land in front of me on the front, it was backlit so I didn't see it but heard it and it flew over the house and landed at the back of the house, it had got instructions to do it ... When I got more warm in the clothes I would land on the roof of the car, it made it but it slipped off the slippery car roof and down the hill. But DJI Spark is tough!
@bugsandbears5 жыл бұрын
Oh wow! Yes, those are the things that happen. But with more experience it gets a lot better and more predictable. Hope that many people can learn from those mistakes. Luckily those DJI drones are really, really tough. Did you see on our channel what happened recently to that very same drone? I'm just sayin: Salt Water. Survived ✅!

Hi u probably switched off the obstacle Avoidance
@bugsandbears6 жыл бұрын
The Mavic Air has only sensors on the front, back and bottom, but not on the sides. So if you fly sideways you don't have obstacle avoidance and need to fly extra careful.
