A new way I’ve learnt how to not get bored and I think I saw it mentioned in someone else’s comment. Give your sim “negative” traits. My sim is a snob and proper which doesn’t really change anything but her husband is erratic and one day he randomly got angry and shouted at their daughter and now the daughter is building a grudge towards the dad. He even said sorry but it looks like the relationship between them has been ruined. It was totally random and I was upset at first but then I thought at least it’s something different to the nice nice family.

you're right! for as long as I can remember, I've given my sims at least one negative trait to give them depth & complexity. I do everything right when aging up my baby sims and have them master all the skills...but based on their little personalities as babies, toddlers, children, I'll give them traits like "oop you're going to be just like your father right there" or "hmm you're not as close to your mother, let's give you a trait similar to hers."

If you play PC/mac, you could download the MC command center and use the risky woohoo to do that. You can choose the percentage of risk for both interactions. I usually keep my risky woohoo at 1-5 % as if they used a bad contraception and try for a baby at like 80%

This happened to one of my sims (with mccc) she got pregnant via risky woohoo after being done with having kids (30% chance of pregnancy) which pissed me off, but I set my game this way so I can only blame myself lol

Try MCCC center. I put the risky woohoo (idk if that's the actual name in the mod) to like 50% because my sim was having issues getting pregnant. Anyway, I eventually saw constant pregnant NPCs walking around. 😂😂😂 I was so confused. But it added spice and I didn't have to personally make families. Then one time my sim married this woman, who I thought was just fat, when I finally added to her my household and she was pregnant! With triplets! 😂😂😂

During the lockdown period I introduced my daughter to the sims and we have had great fun. The way she views it is crazy (and reminds me so much of how I use to play sims as a kid) She has massive houses with the brightest colours everywhere 😂 and her families are constantly having pool parties haha She has chaos for sure down !

Same here. I took all my mods out because of the recent patch update and all the problems that came with it!! I started a new save file (test file) incase it stuffed up. I used the random sim generator in CAS (which I never do) and ended up with a spellcaster sim that had a career and aspiration that I had never used before. Ten hours of play later I'm still having fun in this new save file. Who woulda thought!! lol

I am a family-player, always have been, it is always the same cycle for me. Start with a single sim, find a partner, have kids, etc. And I never have foul sims that are evil or mean by any means. And never play with occults because I like the realism of a life simulation game :D However, I have found ways to change the dynamics ever so slightly to keep me enjoying the same "game-play style". (Sorry it is a long post but I hope it helps some of you that read it.) *Change careers with each family. This allows you to explore the existing features of sims4 and you don't repeat the same gameplay immediately after. *I usually have one or two of the household members with a work from home career and the others with a rabbit-hole career. Or even self-employment can be a really fun activity if you get creative with it. **Utilizing the retail system is a great way to do this. For example, I had a sim in the stylist career that opened up a shop to sell "her designs". I had a sim in freelance photography career who opened up her own "gallery" to sell her photos. I had a bakery and even a "grocery store" with a sim that was into gardening. *Have in-family drama. Not necessarily cheating although that is an obvious option. I usually have drama between a rebellious teen and their parents. They argue about house rules, get grounded. Building the relationship back up adds a small yet additional challenge. *Move houses once in while. Like if you have a new kid or got a promotion or maybe your sim aged up. Find a milestone you think suits your gameplay and change the house and the environment you play. **HOLIDAYS. I can't stress enough how much I love creating holidays. especially those that bring the family together. It adds a reason to break the daily cycle your sims go through and might give you a reason to throw a party which in itself is a task that I enjoy. *Vacations, same as holidays really. Additionally lets you explore the gameplay of the vacation worlds (before the update that is :D) **Loans. I do not enjoy having a ton of money in the bank. I think it only takes away from the already lacking challenge of this game. So instead I build a nice house for my sims that can't afford it. Cheat their money and have them "payback" every week. I usually add a fine if they can't manage to pay within a week. Of course, if you don't want to cheat money (adding or taking away) or keep up with the loans manually this trick is not for you. *Playdates and children's' clubs. These give you something to do with the toddlers and children and truly focus on them. For example, I built an arcade and a bowling alley where the children club meetings are held. It is a good Friday evening activity for them :D *Mods, I really recommend MCCC so that you can have story progression in the game. Every time a household member leaves the house they never progress in their lives. with story progression, they find partners have kids change or pick up new careers. So you have a reason to keep in touch with them. Which feels realistic to me.

It's always interesting to see how others play The Sims. I'm a rotational/ generations player and have one massive save file with many many huge families and singles. My goal is to get my family tree to a point that I will be able to link to every single one of my families. This has been what I've done since TS2. I play one household for 7 sim days and then move to the next. I rarely have anything to do with the townies and they just live and die wherever whenever lol. For me it keeps it interesting. I have almost 200 sims that have been created or born and each one is very different (in my head of course). I rarely get bored playing this way but that's also because I have a ridiculous amount of mods lmao.

It helps me actually get invested in my sims and make them more interesting. It makes me want to see what’s going to happen with them. The mods I use help also but at least for me, it’s the only real way I can play without becoming bored.

I recommend wonderful whims for those that don’t want the extra stuff for the attraction system alone. Wicked whims can be a bit much but there are a lot of animations that provide the intimacy and the extra stuff can just be disabled.

I have learned a lot of little ways to keep my game funs and entertaining but one of my favorite things was I had a family of 4 sims and when the kids were old enough I moved them out of the house. I still went back and forth between the three households to progress their story and made story so different. I made sure the whole family knew each other (cousins new their cousins, aunts and uncles all that extended family) and then in the summer I would organize a get away to a cabin and they would all vacation for a weekend and bond and do fun family stuff so I totally recommend that. Also the last story I did was super fun it was about a poor guy who lived with his elderly father and did cooking and school full time in hopes of opening his own restaurant. So I saved up their money and I only counted the money the guy earned by himself and then moved him to a fancy apartment in the city and he opened his own restaurant. I also had him while he lived with his dad, he woohoo'd with his childhood friend right before he moved. And he tried to ignore her but when the child was born and then became a toddler she dropped him at the guys doorstep at his big fancy city apartment and disappeared. It was fun because the dad had hates children trait so It made it interesting to work around so something like that in your game might be fun too.

I play the single sims challenge: You basically make two sims in a relationship. Then have them break-up or divorce, and then play a sort of legacy challenge between the two households. You basically just alternate between the split sims household and play with each of their lives.

6:53 I used to turn aging off with rotational play, but it's so awkward when I have the college kid move out and age up and they become the same age as their parents, and their siblings are still children after all that time (and they can now become the stepdad of the friend I made for them way back when 🤦🏽‍♀️). So I changed the lifespan to Long so that I can get good playtime with each family I create, and switch back if I want more time with them, but there won't be weird aging. It's been exciting to me to come back to a couple that had just gotten pregnant when I left them and they now have their baby that "they" named on their own.

The summer vacation tip is so smart! I'll do that for my next family gameplay Atm I'm actually working on a super Sim, had a male sim become scientist so he will get abducted and have an alien baby so that the super Sim is an alien. Playing with him and his child is so much fun! Somewhere along the way Shin, the father, became a celebrity and Athena the child is an amazing teenager I love so much! I got so attached to these Sims because I've been slowly building up their lot, not cheating, working hard to prepare Shin to be the perfect father and raised Athena with so much care I already upgraded and decorated the university dorm they will stay in first once they age up ^^;

The Switch Challange: The switch challenge is that you start with a sim that's bad, (female or male) can have any bad traits, and start with a single sim. (Adult or young adult) and your sim must find a good sim, (any good traits) you can have kids but if you do the kids MUST have bad traits. Basically, the point of the game is that your good sim must convince the bad sim to become good (No traits can be changed) this goes along with the kids, you can also have pets but they must have bad traits. Your only allowed one good sim and that sim has to make your sim a better person. This might seem very tricky to do but I have been doing it with a family for a while and I made a man that has *hot-headed, mean, and hates children.* He has a wife who is *family-oriented, good, and outgoing* My good sim (her name is Kayla) has a husband who is the bad guy (Kai) and they don't get along well BUT there have been times where he has been good and has felt good, as an example once Kayla had her new baby after being pregnant with his child, he actually felt happy even tho he hates children. This is a really fun challenge and I hope many creators do this challenge as I think I'm the first person to think of it! :D

If you miss the stories from sims 2 I highly recommend Pleasant Sim's save file. Hers was less focused on changing the sims' appearances and more focused on editing their traits and relationships to actually match their stories, although she did update some sims to look more like their ts2 counterparts

I've found that the most interesting gaming sessions in the sims are the ones where I take risks and do things that I might regret later but end up adding so much lore. For example, in the sims 2, I made Dina Caliente "remove" the pool ladder in Mortimer Goths backyard and at first this was SUPER devastating because I didn't want to kill Mortimer after everything he's been through, but later on I found that all of the drama ended up being awesome. Dina killing Mortimer ended up with Don Lothario getting repulsed by her actions and leaving her alone, and I made Cassandra and Don finally marry for once because Don has decided that real love is better than pleasure. Now I plan for them to move out of the goth house whenever Alexander grows up.

You can get the Sims 2 for free on some platforms (like oldgamesdownload) since EA does not sell it anymore. You may find that the old Sims games have much more charm and content (at least for me it is the case)

I am one of those people who uses back stories to help get invested in my Sims lives. I also write on the side, so having certain mods really helps. I just got Sacrificial's zombie apocalypse mod because I am such a HUGE Resident Evil fan, so it makes sense for me to have it in my game. I also download tons of mods and CC to spice it all up and make it more interesting.

I’m currently building my sims world with a rotation style gameplay, heavily customised with cc, with deep backstories to each sim, and diverse in nature, that being different ethnicities, and sexual orientations. My aim is too replace every sim, In each of the worlds I own, extending to each DLC I eventually buy. I’m also planning to add a big brother house on one of the biggest lots, and wall them in and see how long they last, with an eviction for the sims who I feel should be evicted. My world I am creating has a lot of the play-style’s you have mentioned in your video, which is crazy as, I have single sims, family sims, and rags to riches sims, all ready for me to rotate into their lives, and experience a very complex play through.. But it will be very fun, and rewarding once I have finished it!

@@mars.3338 it's way more stupid to tell another long time simmer to leave the community just because I voice criticism. The Sims 4 is not a lost cause, but it is still fundamentally boring, because there are no real consequences in the game. Sims don't really care about one another most of the time and even if they do, they are so easily overridden by emotions. Same goes for any personality they might have had. If it weren't for critical players like me, there is a lot of stuff we wouldn't have gotten, including the big skin tone update in December!

Thanks for this! Loads of great ideas! I definitely agree about adding a bit of chaos to spice up your game. Sometimes it can be the silliest thing that makes the game fun again, like I added some mod traits a while back including the 'whale ate my parents' based on Sims Medieval, so the Sim will fly into a Whale Rage at odd moments. It makes it more of a challenge when you can't always control what's happening. I also need to spend more time really exploring the packs I've bought. I feel like I never really get to the 'end' of them before I go and play with something else. I've set up a 'coven of witches' in Glimmerbrook now, and I'm going to put them through their paces as spellcasters!

I've played Sims since probably like 2006 and honestly I've basically never done the traditional type of family gameplay. Character creation is one of my favorite things and I always have very elaborate ideas and basically plan their entire lives while in CAS (I remember the first sims I ever created when I was like 8 and played TS2 were Katara and Sokka from ATLA, living with their dad in a custom neighborhood called Avatar Alley or something, lmao). In TS3 I could spend at the very least an hour in CAS, I had an absolute BLAST with the extensive customization!!! As for playstyle I've usually gone with only one sim, sometimes more but it's easier to stick with one. I'd use money and need cheats so I didn't have to worry about those and could spend all my time just doing fun things without bothering with eating, sleeping or working. And more often than not I'd do more or less dark stories. Never been a fan of giving my sims the perfect picket fence dream life, that's boring as shit, I'm more down with doing strange or messed up stories. Discovering mods increased the level of messed up by about 700% because DAMN you can do a lot with those! And basically the only time my sims had kids (which was rarely) it was as a punishment to make their lives harder, because fuck them kids. EDIT: Oh, and after discovering KZbin simmers (literally only like this year) I've realized that it seems fairly common for people to kinda just go with the flow of how things happen? I don't do that at all, I have a very detailed plan for how the entire gameplay will go and orchestrate it accordingly, almost always with free will turned off so my sims can't deviate from the script haha

Really a well done video. Looks like that many people really didn't get that The Sims is a sandbox game afterall, and this means that should be the player the one putting ideas for the things to do. Even The Sims 2 would be boring if everytime you play it you start a new savefiles only for playing the standard couple with children family!

I started playing a legacy challenge (kind of) and what I'm doing is that everything must be random. The first sim was created choosing random answers with the story thing in cas, then she had to marry the first sim she interacted with (that was a married evil criminal, so there was drama) then their children were also completely randomized, and they also married the first sim they interacted with. I'm on the 3rd generation so far and I'm not bored yet because it has made me explore things in the game I wouldn't have choosen by myself.

one tip as well that helped me a lot: if you can get mods and custom traits, get some for disabilities and mental illnesses! there's a huge variety in them, and played with a disabled or mentally ill sim gives the game a lot of depth and sometimes challenges. also forces you to pay extra attention sometimes on what they eat, who they interact with and how they go about their day! i had a sim with a chronic migraine trait and it pushed me to constantly think of ways to keep her relaxed and taking care of herself whilst trying to balance out her other aspects of life. gave the game a lot of depth. get some wheelchair cc. some surgery scars for CAS. a trait for anxiety or blindness. makes the sims feel real

I'm definitely going to try some of these out. I'm currently going through the whole Sims series(starting from the beginning) and looking at some past families and single Sims(even sims from consoles and handheld versions) and I'm putting some of them in my game because a lot of past Sim families had more of an interesting backstory than some of the ones in the Sims 4. I also frequent the gallery to see other peoples creations and once I'm done with that, I'm going to do rotational gameplay~

I'm doing this too, but a little differently (I have only base game and free add-ons), as I'm playing The Sims 4 as "25 years later The Sims 2": for the "returning families" of The Sims 4 (Landgraab, Goth, Caliente) I aged up who will still be alive and created various wifes and childrens. Now I'm going to play this aged up families with the other townies of Willow Creek and Oasis Spring, making sure that you have friends/partners only of the same city (only exception Cassandra Goth - Adrien Landgraab). When eventually my townie pool is empty, I will place in the worlds Maxis' and SimGurus' familes. When even that pool is empty, I'll begin recreating the families from other Sims games, and eventually even the townies and NPCs. It seems like a long, funny plan

One of my favorite things that I ever did that was different from my usual gameplay was when University came out i made this cool sim who studied engineering and ended up getting into robotics and became a mechanical engineer. When she graduated I converted a retail lot from the gallery into her robot store that had a workshop and an apartment on the top floor so that she and her family could stay there while she worked in her workshop. I got her skill high enough to build the servo robot who I named Ace Botsworth. Ace became an astronaut and ended up getting abducted by aliens and impregnated. Yes you read that right- male robots can be impregnated by aliens. He “gave birth” to an alien baby boy who ended up growing up with and being best friends with my engineer sim’s daughter. I loved the family so much that I played for multiple generations and Ace Botsworth is still around and lives with his creator’s grandchild 🥰🤖

I’ve been playing the rotational gameplay method, in a way, with aging off entirely, so that I can jump around between characters that are recreations of real people in my life and I’ve been trying to establish them a little bit in their careers and build on their relationships with each other and my self-sim. I think what I need to do for my game is invest time in reinventing every single world with new sims and updated buildings. My favorite thing about TS4 in the first place is the vast creative freedom of build/buy and CAS so maybe I just need to go wild and that may get me more invested in my Sims. And then after that maybe I’ll finally turn aging back on because I’ve been playing my Sims games with aging off entirely the whole time.

I agree, I mixed the Legacy and 100 baby challenge to make it more like me. I hate that in the 100 baby challenge you just make babies and get them out, so I actually raise the kids, make sure they are skilled, have couples, have their first kiss and wohoo before they leave the house. That way I actually remember every single kid I've had and they are more special.

I have a save that is just me trying different things because I didn't know how to play...like how does one get a spouse without creating one, etc. And when I got into building, I didn't want to move my existing saves from their lives, so I created new saves and had to play them to test the builds. I made too many so now I have one world where I age up parts of the family to test new builds. I have a non-binary kid in one household because when they were a toddler, CAS didn't screen their outfits for female and I went...thank you for letting me know, little Sim, we have a story waiting and the LGBT mod installed (CAS did so for their twin, so it was a huh, how did that...well, nevermind, roll with it). I haven't played for a week because I got behind in mod updates and doctor appointments and I miss it.

Some ideas PC and mod free: -Make a house/apartment with your family in it and recreate your irl house! If you are interested in doing more you can make a sim and a house each for you grandma/grandfather, siblings who have moved out, relatives and friends! -Do the “breed out the weird” challenge. -Do any challenge! There are tons of challenge ideas on the internet. -Build the house of your dreams -Make a whole world all filled with TV-show characters or some kind of world from a book or movie. For example: Harry Potter world, lord of the ring world. -Try to make a HUGE family tree -Make some siblings or two and make them be completely different and hate eachother and make drama happen I don’t have any other ideas, but I do get more I will write it down!

You don't need a new world for every family you play. I play the same world with all my families and alternate between each. And it's fun to see them walking around sometimes when I'm not playing them. I also play default families to make them more interesting

I'm currently trying to actually play through the careers I give my sims at least once instead of just getting them to, like, level 3/4 and then giving up only to start another save lol. Also, I removed all my mods (except MCCC) and cc to play vanilla so I can actually get to know the game without them (and also so my game will stop freezing to the point where I have to manually close via task manager).

Another thing I recently tried was creating a Sim in CAS, and then randomizing their skills through MCC Command. I ended up with a freegan high in archeology skill which led to living in a tent and seeing how far he could survive never spending money. He fell in love worth two of my other Sims and they traveled to Selvadorada together and unearthed all the treasure. Even though I'd been there before with Sims it was never with such high level skill.I never would have drawn that particular story out of my head from scratch.The freegan lifestyle combined with the travel and hardships of jungle adventure was just perfect!

Y'ALL....hear me out, this idea just came to me. 😹 Imagine playing your Sims world on a lockdown just like the current state of the real world. Keep your sims at home. Switch their careers to those with work-from-home capabilities or have them lose their jobs entirely. Become angry with any sims that show up at your door or disable it entirely for a while. Ignore all invitations to come over & socialize with your friends by computer/phone. Have your sims wear masks/head coverings with an alternate Everyday outfit when they do go out. Create a consequence for sims that are chronic rule breakers (this is especially for you sim killers). Have your sims mix drinks..often...everyday. Incorporate Taylor's rags to riches challenge and play homeless sims!
