That is pretty universal. I would add before you step off the curb. Some People are so stupid, they think because a light says walk you don’t have to LOOK before you leap! We have all seen this; you are turning right on a red light and some idiot is hanging their toes off the curb waiting to bolt as soon has that light turns green! So you worry they will step right in front of you at any second. God bless you my fellow earthlings.

Having grown up in Detroit, I've always subscribed to the "don't start none, won't be none" theory. It's worked very well for me when visiting downtown Detroit as all different hours over the past 30 years. I've put that same theory to work over all of my visits to Vegas and never ran into any problems.

Just got back from Vegas today after 8 nights. I go every year, stayed at Excalibur which is good for the kids and a fun casino atmosphere. You actually need a room card to head up the elevator and most security guards working shift stand in front of the elevator hallway and make sure you scan your room key before heading to elevators. We liked that because only people who actually staying there can go up. 🤙🏾

I have heard about the vehicular accidents for decades in Vegas. And then while I was here, of course that ex-convict that murdered a whole family of 9 blowing a red light. Again, being from NYC, crossing a street is sometimes like the Hunger Games. You don't have to be paranoid when you are out of town, but you do need to have a base level of situational awareness. Most of the time, the nighttime, most people are alright, but monsters are lurking.

spot on on the halls in the hotel towers. My last trip I was staying at NYNY and got to my floor and there was a guy in the elevator area once we got to the floor and once we got out he followed us. After a few rooms I made a comment to my GF that I wanted to hit the vending machines before we go to the room (in order to force him to confront me outside my room). She knew I saw something and went along. However we turned the corner and the housekeepers were there and he turned around as soon as he saw them. No clue what his plan was but he was up to something for sure.

My wife and I were one car behind the front car at a red light one block south of Tropicana on the strip. I heard a loud bang. I thought it was a gun. Turned out it was a pedestrian who crossed against the light. My wife saw the whole thing and was pretty upset. The guy flew several feet and the SUV was really messed up. I saw in the news that he was in critical condition. Based on what we saw, I was shocked he was not DOA. By the way, this was mid-afternoon and absolutely perfect visual conditions for both the driver and pedestrian. By the way, the casinos do not want to help you with dealing with crime. It is not in their interest. They are not likely to produce a tape even if they have one.

Just a footnote: In order to carry a firearm in your checked luggage, it must be unloaded and in a locked hard-sided case which securely holds the gun. If the locked hard-sided case can easily be forced open, it doesn't meet the requirement. Also, you need to declare it with the airline when checking in.

I was there last year around labor day. We were at Harrah's. There seem to be a lot of shady individuals on the strip just standing around with that "I'm up to something" vibe, but I didn't feel unsafe at any time. I was just very aware of my surroundings and what was going on around me. There did seem to be more homeless people with signs asking for money on the strip as well as downtown.
@muscleman125

Those shady guys were probably scammers, rip off artists, or looking for easy targets with lots of money to befriend and then later rob. They got that look. Usually hands in pockets, eyes looking back and forth often, just standing or hovering in one spot against a wall or on a corner. These fools exist in every tourist trap known to man. You get the same types in Times Square NYC, Venice Beach LA, etc.

A lot of people used to get injured jaywalking across the Strip. That has been greatly reduced when they built all the pedestrian bridges over the Strip. I was in Italy years ago and the Italian boys had choppers similar to the HD choppers across the street from you. But, the Italian choppers were powered by 50cc two cycle engines..ring-a-ding-ding.

At busy times of the year I would actually take a gun with me to the airport and check it. They personally search your bag then you get to go through the checkpoint without standing in line. If the check point line is huge, like during xmas or thanks giving, this trick can really help you bypass the line.

Never go walking outside of a strip casino in the very late evening/early morning hours. You really should stay in the casino at all times. If you must visit another casino either take a taxi to the front door or make sure it is a casino that is physically connected to the one you’re staying in. A good rule of thumb is: if you leave an air conditioned environment your risk just went way up.

Here are a few places that tourists may want to avoid walking to from the general Strip hotels: The welcome to Las Vegas sign The Rio The OYO THEStrat Circus Circus The Haunted Mansion The Golden Steer Fremont Street As well as the general idea that you can just easily walk the strip in an afternoon. Just walking through some of the bigger resorts (MGM Grand, Mandalay, Caesars) are going to take an hour. Nevermind if you stop in shops or get a drink. And drink water. Yes it sucks to pay $5 a bottle, but drinking and walking in the sun is really hard on you while dehydrated.

Great shot out to PVK, I am a knife guy. Never actually been to Vegas but have ordered from PVK. Although I think they recently moved, I dunno if they just opened another location or totally moved. But that store front might not be around too much longer

That was a very informative video Jacob. This is a video everyone should watch who are coming to Las Vegas for the first time. Even for tourist ( like myself ) who have been to Vegas several times, can learn something new...like not venturing near the tunnels. Best info I came away with was, better to be in a group of many when leaving the Strip on foot. I always thought two or three people together was enough. Not so. Also, I would probably stay far away from people open carrying their fire arms....That would make me nervous.

Everyone said the strip is so safe. I was walking over those bridges that go over the street and my 80 year old grandma and me had to take the elevator down instead of the stairs. At the bottom was an evil homeless guy who boxed us in with a knife. I hated my trip to Vegas. There were homeless addicts laying all over the strip. This also happened at 6:30 in the daylight 😡

Vegaas is a nasty slice of our broken country and the rooms are way over priced. I wouldn't go to Vegas again either for the harassment and crime is a bit over the top.

Wow, thank you for the info. I go to Vegas one or two times a year. I’m very admit though, I’m very afraid about the parking garage at the hotel. I stay mostly at the trip though, but still most of the garage at the trip are looking so scary. Next time can you do the safe place to live in Vegas because I plane to live there when I’m retiring. Thank you

Why not utilize the valet? Drop your car off at the front door, pick up in the same area, and you don’t ever need to be in the garage. If you are a woman, traveling by yourself - stay out of parking garages as much as possible. Source: I am a private security consultant and crime analyst.

Most people think they don’t need training with a knife for self defense. But yes, you absolutely do. And be ready for a long bloody fight. Not the best tool for self defense for most people.

First off excellent channel. I can appreciate your thoughts on Vegas. I will be heading back to Vegas for my 6th time in January. The last 3 times I have been to Vegas I get a cab down to Fremont Street and walk back to my hotel typically around 8-9 AM in the morning (this time will be walking back to the MGM Grand). I can say I have been approached multiple times and seen many homeless people, drug addicts, and people with mental health issues walking around but never had any issues. It a nice reality check on the glitz of the strip and the area outside of it.

I have a question, Jacob: we're going to be in Vegas in June (family of 4). We're staying at the holiday inn desert club. Is it safe to walk from there to the strip (probably via the link promenade)? Michael, Germany
@JacobslifeinVegas
@JacobslifeinVegas 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. I would recommend what you're doing-cross the street onto the Linq property and go through the promenade, especially at night with the kids. It's the quickest (and likely safest) way to go.

Been going to Vegas for over 20 years now. Maybe I’m lucky or perhaps it’s because I always make sure I’m aware of my surroundings whether it’s day or night or if I’m walking through a parking garage or open parking lot and which is the exact same thing I would do back home in the UK. A lot of people make the mistake of dropping their guard when on vacation. I’m in no way paranoid about my safety, I just think it’s common sense
