I'm happy that you love Costa Rica. The thing about moving to a new place whether it is a new state in the USA or a new country, is that once you move to a new place there are certain things you don't find out until you get there. For example I didn't know that Atlanta has tornados until I moved there. Plus I found that Atlanta is a group oriented place where people are very very clicky. When I moved to Jamaica, I learned that the coastal areas are way too hot for me. I have to live high up in the mountains where it is cool and windy. I also learned that the roads are full of potholes once you leave the highways and most main roads. These are things I learned once I lived here. I had to move a few times to find a place I like. Even when I found this place I love there are still some issues I have to accept that I never thought about or knew about before I got here. I have learned that there are some risks and discomforts I have to accept in order to live here. The benefits of living in this beautiful place out ways the negatives.

I love this! Yes, there are things you don't find out until you actually get there and no place is perfect. You are right you have to discover what truly works for you. And sometimes what you receive is more than the negatives. I love Costa Rica my heart is so alive and happy here with the simple life. I'm glad you have found your happy place in Jamaica. Thank you for sharing your beautiful wisdom.

I also can't stand extreme heat, but I can't live in the mountains anywhere because I have a genetic heart condition and can't live where there's less oxygen. 😩😩

@@yumyumkitty2104 not every mountain is a mountain… some are merely hills. Flatland has an elevation of zero ; as the elevation increases ,steeper land orientation occurs. And temperatures minimize. For me the perfect elevation is 3,300 ft above sea level. The location of my favorite , La Terazza Guest House in Grécia Costa Rica - where the temp range is between 68-82 degrees. Now if you’re going to Machu Pichu in Peru purposeful acclimatiom is required because the elevation is so high, breathing can be significantly affected.

I live in the south and feel being "clicky" is a southern thing. They don't like new people and very close-minded and not open to meeting new ppl. I get it, but it comes off childish to me. But again, not something I knew or realized from visiting until I actually moved here.

@@juancarlosquesada7074 Yes, Sr. Quesada. I left CR in 69. It was soo different then. Up to about 89, when I began coming to visit my mom, who had retired and returned to CR, it still had the "innocence", the look I remembered, the way of life. Then, it began to grow and change. Society as well. Everybody used to be thin and then, bodies begun to change as well.🤷🏻‍♀️ The era of junk food, and "richer" diets crept in. Like everything, there's good and there's bad. But life is more tranquil here. Got everything I need. What else can one wish for? Well, I'm 73 now and obviously, can't be as active and "aventada" as I used to be. That's life. Enjoy it as much as we can. Saludos.

I lived on/off in Costa Rica for 22 years. I'm from California, had properties, amazing house by the ocean, many expat friends, avid surfer, and many good years there. I eventually sold everything and came back to the US because everything changed in myriad ways, both personal and in my community. Yes very simple living is definitely Pura Vida, fresh delicious food, beautiful environment in nature, it just depends on the person, where you live, if you have friends and a social life, and dealing with the many differences from life in the US. Enjoyed your video brought me back to some things I loved and disliked. God bless you Grace 🙏

@createwithease Thank you for the reply. I didn't mean to sound like a high roller. I first went to CR when I was 20, land was very cheap, and it took 3 years to build my house. Back then, it truly was Pura Vida, and still is, just depends on your mindset. I was reminiscing yesterday and binge watched a bunch of videos on why expats (80-90%) are leaving CR. Yours was one of the few with a positive perspective, and it truly is what you make of it. The community I lived in became a drug den, houses getting broken into including my own, motorcycle stolen off my porch, and other things that I couldn't tolerate anymore. But still a beautiful country, culture, and place to visit or live for those who can deal with the ups and downs of living in a foreign country. You seem to have found your happy place, enjoying nature, walks, the simple life. I wish you the best, happiness and contentment on your journey. Pura Vida!

Thank you for liking CR. I'm Costa Rican and American. I lived in NY 45 years and retired here 12 years ago. I love both countries and feel comfortable in either one. The problem with many people who move abroad is that they haven't researched the place. Many haven't even visited the intended country. If a move is being comtemplated, travel around the country, see different areas. Live in it at least 3 months. Moving is a huge thing. Selling your home, leaving your job to adventure somewhere else without understanding the culture and customs it's not advisable. Even I had to do it. I left before my 18th birthday. So, I'm more American in many ways. I Returned 20 years later and from then on, every two years. Yet, when it was time to retire, I wasn't sure. I was considering the South West. My husband, from Manchester, Mass., wanted to live in CR. My mom's home, now mine, is in Rohrmoser, SJ. So. We did. He's happy here. Another thing. Rent, don't buy!! That's a big decision, specially when you know Jack about the country. It's not easy to sell here. Life in Tiquicia is simpler, healthier. Guess what. All that time spent in USA reading and watching programs about celebrities...gone!! You live your own life and stop worrying about others or trying to be like them. Less materialistic. Less bs. More into you and family. CRs are like the typical Italian family. They like to get together and do things together. Ok. Enough.😊❤😊❤

Costaricans and Italians descend from the same culture, the latin culture that started in the roman empire. That s why we speak similar languages, both derivated from latin language and have similar customs. They are more intense and loud than costaricans though (, just like the Argentinians their direct decedents ) .

Things have become expensive in Costa Rica, with the falling dollar, and the new 13% VAT tax. I plan on leaving and enjoying what SE Asian countries have to offer, with value at a cheaper price. This is coming from a person who has had a severe bug Phobia. What I've noticed is the people of costa Rica have a way with being with everything on this land. I saw a man who was on a motorcycle and a snake was crossing the road where he was on, he gently moved away, yes it was done with such reverence and gentleness that even I was touched. Many thanks for this! I recently returned from a visit to Panama, and although a wonderful nation, with wonderful people, there seem to be droves of expats moving there, so my concern with relocating there, would be the displacing of the Panamanians. I had been living in the VI, and saw this on the regular. So wanted to ask whether that is also happening in Costa Rica?
@createwithease
@createwithease Ай бұрын
Thank you for considering this this warms my heart. Yes, the same is happening in Costa Rica. An example when the blue zone movie came out and Nicoya, CR was listed as a Blue Zone area droves of expats moved to the area and now studies have shown that the lifespan has dropped to 80 years old because expats request conveniences and they end up building more fast food restaurants which were not there to begin with and so now their diet changes hence the drop in life expectancy. I love CR so much a lot of Costaricans have commented on my videos on the impact of expats, tourists that I had to listen. I'm not making the relocation permanently but will live there for periods of time because for me it doesn't sit well within me. I asked a TICA how she felt about all the expats and the look in her eyes said everything. And so I've decided to move responsibly. Thank you for noticing and considering 🙏🏿

What's the Cost of living like?
@createwithease
@createwithease 3 ай бұрын
I'd say it depends on the area. The coastal areas can be pricey but I've seen different prices across the board everywhere. If you integrate within the community they will tell you who to contact for the best prices or join local FB groups. I have seen rent from $275 to $500, $700 even as high as $1000. If you are willing to live like a local the cost of living is very doable. Electric and water for a month were $30.00 but that was because I did not have air conditioning. You have to look at what will work for you but I can say you can live at $1500 a month including rent, food, and electricity. You could potentially do less depending on where you are living and how you are living. Life is simple here and I love every bit of it

Thank you! I hope your journey in Mexico continues to be blessed. Amen sistar, the simply life is what I didn't know I desired ALL my life. I wish I had discovered this sooner because I would have made different choices - i.e homeownership. Knowing that I have been sooooooo happy having a roof over my head, delicous food, fruits and vegetables, community, being in nature ain't been to one mall or shopping and I am at peace. The mosquitoes keep it 100 lol, but they are a part of the ecosystem. I've just started accepting them. Thank you so much for subscribing. I will check out your videos too. Pura Vida

The reason that People will continue to move to a place today and then move again after few years is because HAPPINESS is not measured by where you live, or geography, it’s all within you. It’s all inside you. A place, money, material things will never fulfill you, your mind will tell you yes, but we all know that our soul needs nothing. American is horrible, but it’s not any better else where. These day is bad everywhere, some worse than other but every place has it ups and down.

While I agree to some extent, one has to recognize that violence and mass shootings, etc will take its toll on mental health for a majority of people. Other angry people can affect you and your lifestyle. I am a senior and had to move because of a bully neighbor (same age) and was told by professionals that one cannot live around that very long. It is not healthy. Finally I moved, and realize it did in deed do a number on my mental health. My doctors were 100% correct. After moving, felt free. So while you can "choose happiness", at some point the negativity and fear for your life can and will change you. It just isn't healthy, mentally or physical. . Changing your lifestyle to what suits you better can and will make a difference. Think about the struggling Mexicans trying to seek a better life for themselves and children. The environment does matter. What surrounds you does matter.

I live in Santa Ana and our rental home here has A/C units in several of the rooms. However, we don't use them since it is so expensive to do so. We installed ceiling fans throughout and have some standing fans in a few areas. We have all the windows/doors open all day long and that works for us even on the hottest of days. As far as bugs go, we don't have many exotic bugs around here. Millipedes for sure show up during the rainy season and we just let them saunter on through for the most part - they are blind and harmless. We leave most spiders alone since they are doing the Lord's work! Nothing to be done about flies other than making sure you don't leave stinky garbage around for them to lay their eggs in. Scorpions we just sweep out of the house because they also do the Lord's work. 😁 Ants are a special kind of issue. We kill any ants that straggle in because that is a hassle that you don't want. What I have learned to do for the leaf cutter and other big ants is to feed them. Yes, I said feed them. I put fruits and veggies that are past their prime in designated areas outside in the yard. This keeps most of the ants from eating my plants and stops them from coming in the house to get the dogs food or other random things that accidentally ended up on the floor.

I love your post - thank you for sharing as It will help many people who have questions around living here. I don't miss the AC, I feel more alive being able to regulate my temperature based on nature. It feels more natural and feel more connected to the cyles of the day. I pray I get to the point of doing seeing insects as doing the Lord's work. i had a small victory with spiders because I SAW ONE in action doing the Lord's work. I have a long way to go but will take it one day at a time. I have also researched leaf cutter ants and they are pretty amazing. Like you said any ants that come in - I'm also big on pest control coz I just can't. Glad you are enjoying CR as your home. Peace and blessings to you and your family.

@@createwithease It is amazing how your body can adjust to the weather. We were so spoiled by the A/C in FL and now when I go back to visit I am cold. LOL I used to think I would rather be cold than hot, but since living here in CR that has changed! The bug thing was an adjustment, but it is like you said about the snakes. They would rather be in their own habitat. The bugs that wind up in our home, don't want to be there. If we do come across a bug we don't know, my daughter makes an effort to catch it and place it back outside where it belongs. Leaf cutter ants are amazing! Seeing them essentially mow my lawn is wild., but like I said, I gotta keep them away from MY plants, hence feeding them. Now that rainy season is starting up again, I doubt I will need to feed them as much because the grass and other yard plants will be growing more abundantly and the ants should have enough that they like to eat. It's also nice seeing the birds come to our yard, make nests in our trees and swim in our pool. I enjoy taking care of our plants and watching the butterflies and hummingbirds come by. It really is a different world and I am happy to share it with nature.

She explained how her skin, brain fog, and other health conditions improved vastly after living in Mexico, eating fresh food, even street food. This was part of her initial videos. Five years later, she just returned to the US and just recently explained all of her health issues were returning and no one doctor can figure it out. Appears diet and our USA food is not healthy. I truly believe that. Our food is over processed, added preservatives, chemicals etc. Do a google search and read just how many of our USA foods are banned in other countries. This was a vibrant woman who would run miles she came to see me an was using a walker. She was only 45 years old and her biggest deal was that the doctors were not that great in Costa Rica the medical care wasn’t top notch so she ended up having to come to the states monthly to get some sort of special treatments and seek better professional medical help..😢 so sad because she was beautiful and her husband was devastated… This was a few years ago maybe things have changed ??? I have heard and read similar stories and several were regarding Costa Rica healthcare. But having said that, think many Americans can't afford healthcare here so some is better than none.There are also several plans that people choose which might affect the type of care. (Just don't know) I have questioned many physicians here in the US yet I pay more. While I am searching for another country, and am a senior, the healthcare issue is a huge concern. The same countries pop up over and over for good and bad healthcare. The USA is the most expensive but not always the best. Japan and the more expensive countries (Norway, Sweden, Switzerland) always pop up as being the best. Smaller countries- lacking.

It is more slow, present and in allowance of all things because you know that you can't control anything and there is this underlying trust that all things will eventually work themselves out in divine timing. @@createwithease Limon is the best of Cosa Rica, you will se when you get there. I think you will like the Parades. Costa Rica celebrates afro costarican culture on August 31 but the celebrations take the whole month. At the end of august they do very nice small parades in the street of Puerto Viejo and Cahuita and then they do a very big Parade in Limon downtown, which is the last one. But they are amazing, specially the big one in Limon, they take the whole year to prepare. The clothes is all hand made and is amazing . They call it "el dia del negro" in case you want to google it. Hi, you're not lactose intolerant then because lactose is lactose. It's more likely that you're intolerant to one of the proteins found in north American cows that's not in central American cattle, perhaps Caseine A, I don't know because I haven't researched it. Maybe see if you can eat goat or sheep milk when you're back in the states to test as that has lactose but no Casein A.

Yes, traveling internationally you have to have more than one option with your money. I always institute minimum 3 backup options. If I sense that I need more, I will do so because the struggle can be real in a foreign country, and you don’t want to have no access to your money. And even if you call your back before you leave, you still may not have access. I had a bill I needed to pay that kept declining payment, had the international feature turned on, but realized I forgot to turn on my vpn on my mobile phone so the IP address was showing Costa Rica. When I turned on my vpn it worked. I have included the VPN in my description because someone will ask. Thank you for your share because it’s an important one.

I visited CR about 10 yrs back and loved the simplicity. We stayed in La Fortuna. Since then ive said I would live there. Have been researching for the past few years. If i am to leave the US, it would be either to Portugal or Costa Rica. I was born and grew up in the country side of Jamaica and find the lifestyle very similar in many ways. My mim concern is schooling. I have kids 6 & 4 and heard the school system is very good there, but it seems all the "better" bilingual schools are near San Jose and i don't think i really want to move my family that close to the city. Then again, I'll need to be near places like urgent care/hospitals especially for my babies. But i moat definitely want to move there

Please keep in mind that not all tropical countries have a lot of bugs and wild life. One thing I love about places like Jamaica and Barbados is that we don't have a lot of wild life. In Jamaica we have ants, lizards, moths, mongoose, mosquitos and I never see any other bugs. We have small spiders but I never see any. We have non poisonous snakes but they are in a very small area of the country where few people live. Barbados is similar to Jamaica but they have no snakes and they have some monkeys.

Yes, not all tropical climates have snakes or insects, so it's important to do research. I remember that about JA not having snakes because of the mongoose. Costa Rica is the jungle, no pun intended, and one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world so you will see everyTHANG I love this about CR. For example, they have tens of thousands of insect species, including around 1,200 species of butterflies, Over 220 species of reptiles and 200 species of amphibians, and over 12,000 species of plants, including more than 1,400 types of orchids....okay I'm being too nerdy.
