The sugar packet tip is pure gold! The first time I got cigars sick I was smoking a much stronger and bigger stick than I was used to, on an empty stomach and outside where it was very cold (high 20s). I finished my 2 hour smoke and went inside where the wife had the heater cranked up to 74. The lack of food, mega dose of nicotine and extreme temperature difference hit me like a truck. I was down in minutes and stayed down for almost 24 hours. That was a shitty Thanksgiving for her, I can assure you.

I would add only 2 things to that list: 1 .Choose the vitola (size of the cigar) wisely. You can get often tempted to pick a big and long cigar like torpedo, toro, gordo, churchill etc. But those cigars need time and you have to be ready for them. When combined with a stronger blend, they can a be a bit overwhelming. There's nothing wrong about picking a classic robusto or even a corona if it's on offer (corona is one of my favourite sizes for a great everyday smoke). 2. If you start to feel nauseous and you fear that it could get worse, there's also nothing wrong about putting the cigar away. Yes, maybe you loose a few bucks when you smoke only half a cigar. but I believe you shouldn't smoke because you have to, but because you want to have a great time. If you put down the cigar and have a great memory of it, it's better than to smoke it whole and then remember how you became sick. Just my two cents.

When I was 19 I smoked my first cigar ever, it had a dark wrapper and I drove to a park first thing in the morning, before eating anything, to try it out. I will NEVER forget lying flat on my back in the grass at the park praying for the nausea and cold sweats to go away and then driving home 5mph, taking a cold shower, and lying in bed for an hour until I felt normal again. I was horrifically depressed since childhood. It was relentless. I assumed it would ultimately end me somehow. About twelve years ago I randomly accepted the offer from a friend of a few doses of mushrooms. I did them two consecutive nights alone. First night was pretty mild. The second night? Wow. I saw my depression from every angle, realized much. Next day: depression totally gone. Never came back, never coming back. It's like it's a forest far away I can remember, and could probably find again with enough effort, but it has zero impact on anything in my life or mind. They honestly saved my life and improved it immensely. I never did them again, either. I wish there was a good, organized way to administer them to people who would benefit from them.

I haven't smoked in many years but when I did enjoy a cigar here and there I always did so shortly after dinner to ensure I wasn't going to feel like trash. I'd also pick the right strength and wrapper for the day. Mostly robustos and usually a Connecticut or maduro or the occasional cigarillo. I found out that certain wrappers or origins of tobacco didn't agree with me such as Indonesian and Cameroon which gave me head aches and tasted foul to me, but Dominican and Nicaraguan origins were perfectly suited to my chemistry. It's all about gaining the knowledge and judgement to decide what works for you.
@LowenKM
@LowenKM 2 жыл бұрын
Thx, and yep, a the importance of a properly humidified cigar shouldn't be overlooked, especially in uber-dry climates like the Southwest, where you can almost watch the tobacco start drying out as soon as it leaves the humidor. So in this climate I tend to keep my humidor a bit more on the 'moist' side at around 80% just to compensate.. which also seems to provide a much cooler and longer-lasting smoke.

I could have listened to you explain smoking cigars for so much longer than this video was. I smoked cigars when I was in the military and it made me sick as a dog a lot of the time because I smoked them so fast like they were cigarettes.

I’ve never had an issue with nicotine. But then again, I smoke fairly slowly. I can definitely feel the vitamin N depending on the cigar, and can get quite buzzed, but not to the point of ralphing. That would suck!

i was smoking for almost 20 years cigarettes. this year i decided to stop and give my lungs some recover. after a few months i started with cigars. it‘s just amazing. the taste, different flavors, the fact that you dont inhale it, the relaxing time on my terrace doing nothing but puffing for at least 1hr. i have to say cigarillos (smoked them as well in my cigarrette times) i have in my humidor too, for normal days. on weekend or some warm evenings during week i prefer a cigar. i‘m still testing (the range is just to big) what i like and what cigar fits my taste best. 👍👍👍

Great info. I got sick a week ago smoking the 10th Anniversary Maduro too fast. For an absolute wonderful stick, the night ended horribly. Yesterday I took TWO hours to smoke the Habano. It tasted like chocolate cake nearly the entire smoke. All was right with the world taking it slower.

Sagely advice. There are medical studies which show smoking a cigar actually helps your digestive system work more efficiently. As for sugar, I keep a butterscotch/caramel candy in my pocket as they pair so well with a cigar. Each person will develop their own way of smoking, but the essential elements will be the same. Yeah, I inhale when it is a good smoke.

This happened to me over 20 yrs ago.....was watering my yard and enjoying my stogie on an EMPTY stomach...boy o boy. 🤢Had to sit down right there and like a drunkin fool froze.. my surroundings were spinning n I was green faced.... went inside and a bit of sugar helped.. lol....never did I smoke on an empty stomach again. 😉✌ thx for the reminder

it happens guys, don't let that deter you. just take it nice and slow. and welcome to the club since we've ALL been there. i was playing in a golf 4-some and one of them brought out these big, fat churchills for all of us to enjoy. it was hot that day and i smoked way too fast trying to look like i knew what I was doing. suddenly i was throwing up right there on the course while they all laughed and chided me.

Well, well!! I was rolling that question around in my head this very morning. My youngest daughter loves a good cigar and I get sick every time I smoke one with her. So the sugar thing is a help but all of the tips are the things that I am doing wrong. So Imma tell her, my friend “Mr. Nick Perdomo” gave me some tips on how to smoke a cigar; then imma give her one of your cigars and have one for me and we are gonna sit and enjoy. Thank you Mr. Perdomo!!

I was talking by phone to The Duck quite a ways back. I was puffing on a cigar to keep it lit, cuz I'm not experienced cigar smoker. Plus I was drinking beer and I was telling The Duck about my experiences for the week dealing cards at MGM Grand, all the crazy people at my table and what not. I became green cuz of the concentrated smoke I was puffing. There was no turning back. Had to just sweat it out, spitting for an hour on the lawn over by the stone frog. But I kept up the fight and had a good conversation with The Duck and got through it. The smell of a real cigar is a smell I remember from my childhood in the 60's and 70's. Especially at Tiger Stadium. Some old guy in suspenders smoking a fat cigar was part of the ball park atmosphere at that time, something you don't often experience these days.
