My name is Tammy. I struggle with too many mental issues, lol, but don't we all? On this channel I document most of my struggles. KZbin helps me to be able to vent and talk about what's going on and how I feel. I consider my channel to be a mental health recovery channel. I'm also trying to lose weight in the process. Come along and let's strive to be the best versions of ourselves!
I'm not promoting any kind of (eating) disorder, I'm just documenting my life and my struggles.
I'm very hapy to have you Little Lemons accompany me. Thank you SO much for watching my video!

Tammy I have another idea for you! Instead of getting focused on calories because of a binge and then trying to restrict calories afterwards… Why don’t you think of it like this: A binge is a nutritional ZERO. 🍽 Like you said in this video, it’s all sugar and fats! So the way to cancel the binge is NOT to starve or restrict, but to get all the Nutritional Points back you lost with the binge. 💛 So give yourself 1 point for every balanced meal you eat and every portion of a different fruit and vegetable you have each day following a binge. 🥗🥙🍲🍱 Your goal should be: 3 balanced meal points + 5 minimum veg/fruit points. Your ultimate daily goal should be 10 total points every day and each day after every binge. And remember! Binges count as ZERO. Starving and restricting will never get you to 10! Your goal is to make 10 points everyday. Tammy you deserve to be 10/10! 🏆💐🌟 Please try this! 💛 And when you are stronger and 10/10, do your best to quit added sugar. Your body will go through a tough adjustment phase (or sugar withdrawal over several weeks) but you can do it! You are worth it Tammy! You are smart, you are creative, you are strong. You can do it! 💫 And you will feel so much better about everything! ✨💛🍋🌿

Tbh I don't get why restricting os not ok after bing. Someone who has normal relationships with food would probably aet less after Christmas or a Birthday. Just naturally eating less or skipping meals due to luck of appetite.
@juliet.olivia
@juliet.olivia Жыл бұрын
Because if you restrict too heavily then you become abnormally hungry again and increase the likelihood of losing control when you start eating again and having another binge, and the cycle continues. Also, the restricting is as debilitating as the binging because the obsession around numbers and calories is so mentally draining and you feel light headed and headachey from not eating enough, regardless of how much you ate the day before.

Hi Tammy, I support you all the way, and I think you are brave to share your story on KZbin. I was wondering how you calculate the calories you burn by things like walking. 560 kcal sounds like a lot for an hour of walking. I am definitely no expert, but I have been infused with the idea that there is no way to out train a bad diet. And well... I guese just wanted to warn you or something. My fitbit lies to me all the time. I currently maintain my weight at about 1800-2000 kcal per day, but my fitbit tells me I am burning like 2500 every day. Just be careful🙂 Zet hem op!!!

I was wondering the same thing, I work as a mail carrier and walk 16.000-20.000 steps every day and I can't imagine I burn more than maybe 400-500 calories through that (I don't count calories, but based on what I aproximately consume during the day and my weight), and even with her weight I don't think it's that much. Estimating your burned calorie too high can make all the difference, so I would be very careful with that

I can relate to how you describe your thoughts when you are wanting to binge, restrict, or walk. How it is compulsory, etc. Have you tried mindfulness? In therapy I learned about this, and it helps me manage bad thought patterns I have. The idea is that you first try to feel present and grounded in your body, and then your mind and thoughts become more calm and slow down. This works better than just trying to calm my mind. I can scream at myself “stop thinking that!” but it doesn’t help. With mindfulness, I calm my body first, and that helps my mind. There are apps with 5-10 min guided mindfulness exercises. I always start by feeling my feet on the floor - the ground is steady and I am rooted to it. Then I feel the air in my lungs - cool when I breath in, and hot as I exhale. You can also do mindfulness walks, where you just soak in all the surroundings to be present. What do you smell? How does it feel when your shoe hits the ground? What colors do you see? Do hear birds or a highway in the distance? After I am present and calm in my body, my thoughts slow and I am usually more rational. Instead of reacting on autopilot to my dark thoughts, I can interrupt the pattern. My mind has calmed so I can think through options, remember tips from therapy, and I have more power to decide how to respond, instead of giving in. It took me a few weeks of daily mindfulness to get the hang of it. But it really really helps me. I definitely thought it was a little bit… woo woo silly. Like, how will thinking about my breathing help my thoughts? But it works! Sending love. Take care of you! Ps. The intro is so great!!!

Something you need to work on Tammy (speaking from an outsiders point of view, who is also plus size & struggles with disordered eating & restricting), is starting a new day & clearing the slate. It won’t be an easy journey by any stretch of the imagination, but by continuing on each day & essentially b3ating yourself up, you can’t possibly break the cycle & it will never end. Have you explored with your therapist when / why / where your ED first began? That’s also really important. ED’s always have a trigger point. I did a bit of soul searching in 2021, & I tried to think back to when mine all began & there was 2 rather big reasons. Although I haven’t got a therapist at the moment, knowing where it started helped. Break things down, don’t try to do too much at one, don’t try to tackle everything all at the same time because you’ll become very stressed & overwhelmed, which will likely lead to a binge as you’ll feel like a ‘failure’ (which you most certainly aren’t) if you don’t reach set goals / ‘fix’ things. One step at a time. Think of it as unravelling a big tangled ball of wool. As much as I know you face criticism in the comments who can’t comprehend eating disorders, know there are twice as many people who understand the daily struggles you’re going through. It isn’t about babying you, it’s about empathising & supporting your in your journey. There’s no quick fix to ED’s, sadly, but you can & will do this. x

Hey, super dapper dat je dit deelt. Recovery is not linear!

Agree! generally Tammy's meals are quite small, she might need to eat a little more and it might help lessen the risk of binging. Like for example her lunch is usually a sandwich, it's not enough, but if she added in a pot of yogurt, some nuts and a piece for fruit it might curb the risk of binging.

I’m trying to not restrict anymore since I only end up bingeing again. It’s all a mind game. And I’m losing the game 😢. Same thing kinda happened to me with excessive calorie burning, but I think it was more in my head. I rely on exercise for stress relief, but I as I planned groceries for restriction, I also made the mistake of catastrophizing it into ‘I’m burning too many calories, food is running out’! Today was a good day, however, I made time to do some light activity. I did ruminate on how I would do it while multitasking (which is something else that brings me joy, since I am in my goal range) on games and youtube, but really once I started doing my work (and setup of my environment instead of just mindless dreaming about it) on my laptop, the urge to take that the device (my entire bag) with me(to avoid the cluttered house) disappeared, and my plan fell into place. That’s my day of indulging (I think responsibly, as I’m still ready to go home and get another round of studying done) in my compulsions minimally productively. Rant over. I find that It helps the all or nothing mindset to think that as soon as you start, and no matter how lightly/casually/slowly you start, the binary is towards positive progress. I recently binged pretty badly too, but more importantly (to me) created a lot of messes/hazards in the process, but I find peace in the practice of calmly fixing everything again. The negative side of it latches on to that thinking, but if it helps to let a few things go, your mental health is not negative to your goals, even if it requires you to go in the opposite direction for a bit. The strategy just needs some execution to form, even seemingly small actions are a binary positive in the area of your overall well-being. Just a small constructive criticism, I know you are recording in several days or at different times and want to be polite, but could you just greet us only once during each video with "Hello Lemfam"? It sounds quite annoying to hear it several times during the video and doesn't add much to the content, esp.if some viewers only listen to the videos while doing things around the house etc. :) Maybe change it to different way of greeting after 1st time using it at the beginning. You basically calculated your binges and now you are restricting so you will stay under you weekly calorie goal? I see so much potential in you. You need a new team of therapists and dieticians.

I think you might have a food addiction, and not BED.

You are very sweet and successful but wow you are a monster jerk to yourself. I can’t imagine you saying the negative things you say to yourself to someone else. I think you should think of yourself as your best friend and treat you like you treat others ❤❤❤ you are worthy 😘

Dear Tammy, have you ever tried chromium picolinate? It helps so much with cravings! I have an BED that's triggered by my mental state. I started this thing, and haven't had binges for almost entire month! (It's a huge accomplishment for someone who used to binge every other day). Ask your dietician about chromium.

There has to be medicine that you can take to help you with this cycle.

It seems if you are going to see the calories you burn through walking, as calories that you now need to "replace" then you are defeating the reason for the exercise. The calories burnt is work well done, not calories to put back into the "pot". I you do that then why do the walking? I can see that it all loops back into your need to track those numbers, and the OCD part of your struggle, but it will soon become another "rule" and add to the cycle for you.

One of the things that helped me somehow is not feeling guilty about it (i dont have e.d. anymore and that doesnt mean that if that worked for me it will work for you). Its easier to say than done, but trying to compensates the overating episode with restricting or skipping meals or doing exercise (if you are not use to) isnt good because it triggers the anxiety and it worses the chances to binge again days after. And a good thing plan a "cheat meal" in the week (like on weekend), to satisfy what you want to eat that isnt healthy. eating more because you are exercising could be trouble to lose weight. Sometims i am afraid to be like explaining things like things are easy, they arent. I hope you try a way to make things better.

I recently started reverse dieting, 3 years ago I weighed 280 pounds, I currently weigh 125 pounds which is my goal weight, for the first year and a half I ate 1000 calories a day, when I hit 145 I increased to 1250, currently I am eating 1300 calories slowly increasing the calories so I don't lose anymore, but I never want to be overweight or obese again, I can't even imagine eating 7500 calories in one day, that is so much food, I would be in pain if I tried to eat that much. Tammy I know you can do this, just count your calories and weigh your food, if I can do it anyone can, and I am an old lady, I will be 65 in July

I think you should see you restricting as a comfort blanket for your BED. No you don't want to do either, but knowing you have comfort in restricting in case you binge to "undo" the damage of binging is why you go back to it. I think you should work on letting go of that comfort and sit in the discomfort from binging, maybe that will push you to not binge anymore or not nearly as often because then you don't have your go to to rely on anymore, you'll have to instead rely on not binging so you don't have to sit with the discomfort of the aftermath of it.
