Awesome Mark - great stuff. I would add: 1) tap the sand off your shoes when you walk out of a bunker so you don't walk sand all over the green and carry the rake with you into the bunker so you are FAST getting out of there 2) carry multiple clubs with you if you are playing cart golf and remember to grab your cart partner's needed clubs (putter etc) when they don't have it 3) beginners are horrible at watching where exactly their ball enters the woods - teach them early to remember an exact location 4) as you walk to a green, look where the next tee is and leave your bag there so you don't have to walk backwards and get it 5) if you are a beginner, just tell the people you are playing with, and don't worry about it - we have all been there - just play fast and everyone will appreciate it 6) have someone else explain to your wife (or husband if it is the case) everything in this video because there are some things that there is no winning way to do it 7) if you are a beginner, it is ok to pick up your ball on a hole to keep pace and just restart at the next hole. Do not be embarrassed - it is absolutely ok

This is good. When I first started playing golf with my Dad back in the 1970s he taught me a few points which I still follow today. 1) As far as you are physically able, keep up a reasonable pace between shots. There is nothing worse than the group behind watching you dawdle between each stroke as they anticipate another 4 hour plus round. In fact as a beginner try and find out peak times and avoid them. 2) 80% of wild shots don't go as far as you think, therefore find the nearest point to where your ball went into the rough and start your search there rather than 50 yards ahead. 3) Leave your bag or trolley en-route to the next hole. Don't walk back on yourself and don't mark cards on the green unless there is no one behind you waiting to play. If you are playing an unfamiliar course look for signs to the next tee or ask your playing partners if they are familiar with the course. All these little things add up and could save a good half an hour a round. Finally, your tip of standing behind to look for your playing partner's ball when hitting into the sun is a good idea. I tend (where space allows) to stand a good 5 yards behind and I take my hat/cap off and hold it in front of me to block out the sun. I can then watch the apex of the flight. Of course these rules don't apply to Dan, who will more than likely nob one knee height.

Great video! 2 additions 1) more accomplished golfers didn't start out that way, so if they're polite, they don't care how bad the person they're playing with is, so don't worry about not being very good 2) there is no shame in picking up after 6 or 7 strokes if you're not on the green; keep the pace of play up.

My two biggest bug bears for new and some 'experienced' golfers: first one - people who are just short of the green, chip on and leave their bag 20 yards short of the green , walk on & putt out, then have to walk back to get their bag .. position your bag where you're going to walk to the next tee please! .. second bug bear .. putting out & filling your card out whilst still stood on the green, chatting to your mates .. was that a 5 or a 6? .. Mark it on the next tee please!!

When it comes to clubs in the bag, I keep the odd numbers together and even on the other side. As there’s greater lengths between clubs they don’t clunk as much and reduce the risk of scratches. Also keep a pocket sized brush in my pocket so I can clean the face of each club before taking my shot, rather than clean a club after a shot when I might not even use it for the rest of the round!

I ordered a polo shirt from William Murray and the email confirmation came with the quote "You're not good enough to get mad at your bad shots". Go out, have fun, respect those around you by keeping up the pace of play (these are great tips, Mark!) and enjoy your game for what it is. No one is going to go out and be Tiger or Rory. That first truly ripped drive or perfect chip shot and you'll be hooked.

That's a good one, never been showed that before and I've played on and off for 15 years. I always put it to the outside so it's away from the green or the fairway. My thinking being that it won't stop a ball from going in the front of from coming out the back. To be fair though most courses I play it appears that most golfers don't know what that spikey pole thing is for anyway!

Great video. My 3 takeaways are, do not complain or analyze your shot if it's a bad one move on to the next hole forget about the last hole. Complaining simply takes up too much time and it undermines your concentration. The second takeaway which I thought was an excellent point you made , was the courtesy aspect. Be ready to play understand the rules and keep the pace up. A third point has to do with your cart or as you say in the UK your buggy . Follow the rules that the golf course posts. If it says cart path only be courteous and stay on the cart path. Treat the golf course like it's your own backyard nobody wants to see things chewed up because of an inconsiderate golfer. Pick up your litter pack out the garbage in your buggy or cart and return it like you found it. Thank you. Keep up the great content!!!

I'd add a few things for a beginner to take the pressure off themselves in very early rounds. .Step one is can you make the ball move more than 100 yards down the fairway. Aim to complete the hole in 'double par' or less and whatever has gone wrong, pick up after 10 strokes and move on. Reset. You gain nothing from melting down to eventually write 16 which will occupy your thoughts for the rest of the round. With lessons these targets get harder and soon it's knocking on door of breaking 100.

I’ve watched this twice already and really enjoy it but please go further, you are helping the game even here in the states! I’ve had the bag organisation conversation a few times with people. All the reasons you give for putting the clubs in the order you suggest are equally valid for the other way round, as I do. As long as the headcovers are put on properly they protect the shafts and don’t cover the irons over, if the woods are then at the bottom of the bag you can clearly see the layout of your irons from above and not have to bend down to see under the driver?

Great video, maybe add a bit about not taking your bag onto not only the green (obvious?) but also on the tees too. My first time at a club, first tee, member told me off because my bag was about 5 inches into the tee area. Looking for balls, how long, etiquette etc. Playing through, how, when etc. Don’t feel rushed into shots by golfers behind, let them through and relax. Ringing bells and looking/climbing steps to see/hear that it’s safe to play. Just a few things that seem obvious but are not often mentioned to newer golfers.

Good advice here. I would add more encouragement of ready golf. But also set the tone - if it’s your honour on the next tee then make a point of getting there first. I was taught and taught my son to stand on the tee box and watch the shot. It always seems that when we're playing with someone they paired us with, that we're walking up to the box (we tend to play ready golf and not always honors) and they're at the cart playing with the head covers and trying to decide which club to hit and we've already teed off. Also, I see a lot of guys play with covers for all their clubs and after we tee off they're sitting there messing with the covers, I don't know if it's right or wrong, but I take my covers off at the start of the round and don't put them back on until we're done. It's very busy here where we play so you really have to keep moving and not wasting a bunch of time messing with things.
