It is a relatively simple task to obtain structured mesh when all fillets and rounds are removed. Try to redo with the fillets added where the strut and base join...

Great job! I have a question, the edges of the down holes have some elements distorted, what influence these skewed elements have in the results?
@Ansystant
@Ansystant 4 жыл бұрын
Skewed elements should be avoided at all costs. However while obtaining structured mesh around holes and similar features, sometimes afew number of skewed elements are formed. This can be countered by decreasing mesh size. i.e. if you bisect a long skewed element, the resulting elenents will be less skewed. This however, will increase number of elements. But holes are generally areas of high stress concentration. So they will do. Also, Structured meshing itself has limitations and disadvantages. Sometimes to refine mesh around an area of interest you have to refine mesh throughout the body. There one should go for unstructured meshing. The decision of choosing either depends on the type of geometry.

@Ansystant 4 жыл бұрын
The tutorial is to give you an idea of how structured mehsing can be obtained even in irregular bodies. But in more complex geometries, it's not wise to spend so much time solely on meshing. Just go with unstructured meshing. The only difference is that you obtain mesh independence rather quickly (i.e. at a greater mesh size) in structured meshing. So less computational power is used. But once you have achieved independence, the results will be same in either case.

Great video.. Really useful, say we can use it with bonded contacts in FEA. But is there a way to combine the bodies into a single mesh?
@Ansystant
@Ansystant 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for late reply. There are I think two questions in your statement. First, when you make a single part, ANSYS treats it as a single body and no contacts are formed between surfaces. So, there is no need for modeling contacts. Second, if you are asking about not making it a single part but using bonded contacts to achieve same results, then you can match nodes on edges by giving same conditions to edges. i.e edge sizing and inflation. But when you modelling contacts, you don't really need to match nodes between surfaces. Although it is good to have matching nodes anyways. So you can match nodes by edge sizing or at small levels by other conditions such as node matching. We will make a separate video on contacts modelling in ANSYS. Hope it helps.

@@Ansystant Thanks for the reply. In the video a single part is shown split into simpler bodies. So if we use this mesh, will there be multiple bodies listed in static structural?
@Ansystant
@Ansystant 4 жыл бұрын
@@dilsoman if you make one part from "form new part" option of all the bodies, the software will treat it as if it were a single body. In meshing, however, all bodies will be listed under one part, but that's fine. Having one part is what matters. The part can have as many bodies.

Hello, do you mind if I have a question to ask you? To mesh, we have to divide the solid into parts. So when adding the next model, how will we have to set up the connection, or will the application automatically understand that they are still tied together? Thank you.
@Ansystant
@Ansystant 7 ай бұрын
They bodies that are grouped as a single "part" in geometry do not need any connections. The software already knows that it is the same part (tied together). For multiple parts, you make connections between them. E.g. if you have a nut and a bolt (2 parts total), you will make a connection between them. But you do not need to make any connection between the different bodies of bolt (if you split the bolt in multiple parts in designModeler to get a good mesh)
