You definitely touch up on details more than the engineers manual in Laymans terms. Always nice too see your new uploads on sewing machines.

Until up now no One says what is swing machine oil and his composition. Investigating, is white oil or the same, liquid vaseline a light mineral oil. For very Speedy machines can have silicone aditive. In my machines I use liquid vaseline with aditive based in PTFE. What you can say about this matter and if you agree with this subject. Thank you very much by your explanation so detailed.

What a great video, thank you. On the Singer 319 there is a gear box, painted black, under/just behind the hook that contains the hook driving gears. That gearbox is full of grease and after some time, it will need to be changed. The cover is held on by the two screws that face the left end of the machine. Have a look, if the grease hasn't been changed in a while, I bet you'll find a lump of black gunk. Singer made no mention of changing the grease in their user manual. I suspect that's because they figured that people would take the machine in for service every year or two and that the tech would check the gearbox.

I cannot find sewing machine oil with those spouts locally. So I go to a pharmacy and buy a syringe with annealed needles. Annealed because I can bend them into desired shapes to get around obstacles. The syringe makes it easy to apply a very small amount of oil. Thanks for the video. I guess you just saved a number of machines from the scrap container.

I like using syringes in the shop too. Thanks for the great tip. 🙏

You have steady hands. I find that at 82 I have to guide and hold the small tube.

do you have any information on a pfaff 1245 having trouble with bobbin case assy
@AlexanderDyer Жыл бұрын
Not specifically, I have never had one.

Thank you this was helpful! But I can’t open the top of this machine there’s a bobbin winder on top. I don’t know how to remove it. Also, Can you make a video on why the thread keeps breaking on my Bernina 217?
@AlexanderDyer9 ай бұрын
There are so many reasons thread breaks. Typically thread get bound up somewhere, operate machine slowly by hand to try and isolate such an area.

on a couple of my old machines the oil holes have lost a lot of their paint, what would you recommend to repaint them? would nail polish work?
@AlexanderDyer Жыл бұрын
It is not necessary. When I am buying a machine I would rather that it were not done but that is just an opinion. Many machines never mark them so...
@Drottninggatan2017 Жыл бұрын
Could they have added green colouring to that oil? To see it more easily in the looking glass? There is no good reason for it to turn green on its own. Not even with some copper parts inside.
@AlexanderDyer Жыл бұрын
Not sure about the color but worse was the sludge and thickness of the oil, smelled bad too. It had to go. It was time.

Hi Alex, very informative videos. I just picked up a Juki LU 1114-4 from a neighbor who had it in a shed. Last time it was used they overfilled it with WD-30. Oil was yellow but all the metal looked pretty. She smelled like a '57 Chevy oh boy. I also found my oil pan plug late :D There were two screw plugs in mine. One inside the pan and one on the outside, underneath. I find no videos about this Made in Japan beauty. It came with smooth feet. Was missing first tensioner and it has a mitsubishi controller that stops needle up, slow sew, fast and fastest sew and a bobbin thread cutting knife function that I believe is missing the knife lever. Do you know anything about this one by chance?

is there such a real thing as stainless sewing machine oil. all I've tried labeled stainless stains horrible
@AlexanderDyer Жыл бұрын
I don't know about that, my goal has always been to keep oil off my project and I am largely successful in that regard.
