Nothing but respect for what you do Ryan. Competing with the huge nationwide retailers has got to be tough. Next time I am ready to make a purchase, I will call you first!

Just watched both of your videos! Very Very informative! You explained it all so good! I am 32 years old. I have been playing guitar since 7th grade. I have a ton of gear. I don't have any business knowledge or music degree. I do have some sales experience. Your video is awesome. Thank you, there is much to look into and much to consider.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate these videos. I first found your KZbin videos through following Andertons and Rob and I was hoping you'd have something posted on how you came to own your own business. I'm happy to know a degree in small business and entrepreneurship is not required... Although I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. Greensboro Ga needs music and life and I'm going to "work my butt off" to make it happen. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

Best of luck to you! My advice would be really build out the lesson program and/or tech repair service side of things. Retail sales Alone is incredibly brutal, but if you can serve your local community with lessons and service that can be a huge revenue stream.

@@RNAMusic yes thanks man . We both play guitar and my buddy is actually taking home studio lessons now so we can get good at recording music too. Appreciate you brother.

If I wanted to do lessons, but don't necessarily want to teach them myself, from a business standpoint, is it better to open up a few rooms in my building and rent them out to people who want to do lessons in my building, or to hire people to do the lessons in my building
@RNAMusic Жыл бұрын
Depends on how much control you want, financially probably rent out the rooms. Like stylist rent station in salons and barber shops. If you want any say in how they teach or treat customers coming into your facility, you’d have to hire them. Which costs more.

Great video. I'm 53, and been thinking about opening a drum store for a few years. I've played for 40 years, and still love learning, and playing, and no, your never too old to learn. I appreciate your advice, it really is very insightful, and helpful. I appreciate the time you took, to help us who are thinking of chartering the unknown. I still need to do a lot more research though. Today is the first day that I've started seriously researching, and your videos are the first I've watched. Thx.

What kind of time-line do you think i can expect if i start out carrying a lesser known brand, to say carrying multiple brands, then more popular brands? for instance start off with chapman's, and work up to fenders? also should i focus solely on one department at a time? guitar and amps, then add bass, drums etc? plus peripheral accessories, straps, strings picks and the like? there is only one guitar store in the county, and i'm pretty sure they sell drugs out of it, their selection is awful! the only product worth buying there are the Yamaha acoustic guitars. they have some squiers, and a couple fender mustang series amps, and misc. used gear and pedals. they run a bicycle shop out of there in one corner. I'm thinking if a ran just a small operation to start i could easily stral the market, and then start working on youtube advertising, and set up an online store as well. what are your thoughts?
@RNAMusic7 жыл бұрын
christaphor longstreet great questions. I wouldn't start with chapman personally, it's a huge cash investment up front and you will tie up a ton of money for not necessarily a high profit margin line. I would start with a more well known line that you do not have to order so many of at a time. Schecter, LTD, Washburn etc. Also I would invest in acoustics first. That was a mistake I made in the beginning starting with electrics. Acoustics out sell electrics by a fairly good amount. Guitars are more popular and easier to sell than drums so I would focus on Guitars and accessories like strings picks cables drumsticks drum hearts microphones straps tuners etc. accessories and Guitars first, then once that is profitable and sustaining itself you could move into drums themselves. When starting out avoid taking huge financial risks like massive buy ins. There are smaller but well known companies that will usually work with you depending on your location and size.
@RNAMusic7 жыл бұрын
A brand like Washburn or Schecter make electrics and acoustics so that is something to look at. Fender and Gibson are huge financial commitments, and not always easy to work with.

thanks a ton, great info. i would just love to see a reall music store in my area. i love music, i've been a music bum since i was 15, and i'm 42 now. i'm not what i would consider a pro, but i'm a fair guitar player and good singer. would you include pedals as a part of that guitar peripheral too? and if i go acoustics first, would acoustic combo's and p.a. be a good investment as well?

Hi how much will it cost to open a small guitar store, roughly
@bennettmusiclabs93826 жыл бұрын
the best answer to that is just how successful do you wish to be and how fast do you wish to reach that goal. it appears that that Golden ratio is greatly dependent on how much work/time/money you pour into it. and where it gets really interesting is you can trade work for the money or money for the work or the time. but its MUCH easier if you have LOTS of money to start.. than if your working with very little cash and you try to make the difference by working more or putting in more of your time.

Ben there and done it.. its expensive to borrow and you ultimately realize that you;ve become the banks personal slave for several years.. but it can be done.. just don't delude yourself into thinking its gonna be "easy" iIT WILL BE ANYTHING BUT easy.
