It's hell opening a caseback of some watches for the FIRST time with this method. After the first time it'll never be that tight again. All these ball examples are deceptive - these backs are clearly already removed at least once.

Amen! I got the special watch back remover mal with the big B on it from Bergeon. It doesn't work! I destroyed the leather straps in a Festina for gripping to hard and couldn't open watches that hadn't been already opened. Buyer beware!

Just tried this and confirmed it will work. If you don't have a rubber ball with sticky surface, you can always use any small ball and apply tape on it with sticky side exposed.

Thanks for the video. This trick works surprisingly well doe most screw back watches. The exception is watches with a two-piece screw back like the Vostok Amphibia. Sadly for the broke horologist, you DO need the tool (or a pair of pliers and a steady hand) to open one of those.

Guys this didn't work for me at first and I thought it was BS, but keep trying. It eventually worked. Squeeze the ball, hold the watch just like he did in the video, down on the edge of a surface or your knee, and keep trying. Press the ball as hard as you can into the watch

Exactly. I have a watch that has been opened in at least 10 years. That little rubber ball will NEVER open this watch; especially a ladies Rolex with a thick rubber gasket.

No way will this work on a watch which is seriously tight! I have the approved tools for the job, and whilst I could open my Accurist with a little effort at the start, there is no way my Diesel is going to open with a "Mickey Mouse" sticky ball!!! How the hell can something, with so much flex do the job, when a heavy duty professional tool can't?

"Any screw back...."?? Not even close. You'll never open a watch with a properly torqued case back using a rubber ball. The only watches you can open are those you know have lightly-threaded backs; usually those you've done yourself.
