Your eligible* deposits are covered for upto 85000 pounds. Means if bank goes down, you will get 85000 pounds only if your bank balance was over 85000. This also means that if you have 100000 pounds in lloyds and 100000 in Halifax and lloyds goes down, you will only get back 85000(lloyds owns Halifax) so if u had 100000 in lloyds and 100000 in barclays and both banks go down, you will still get 85000 x 2 (barclays and lloyds are separate banks). This is what eligible deposits are. Deposits in lloyds, Halifax, RBS is considered as one.

@Ankush Sharma , I have a query reg Healthcare in UK. I'm coming in Jan with kid and spouse. We have an existing health insurance in India. I'm unable to decide whether to continue giving premium for that policy as we anyway need to pay for IHS charge. I know dental and eye treatment are not free in UK but it'd be great if you can let me know what all treatment are included in IHS charge. God forbid if anything serious happens ( eg operation, prolonged treatment etc) , will it be free for us or it'll be charged? Thanks in advance.
@500BHP2 жыл бұрын
@@monalisabose8935 all other treatments except dental/eyes are free in the UK. All major operations are also free including hospital stays. They are covered because of the IHS you've paid. Due to current covid situation, treatment through NHS is taking a lot of time. There is a huge pressure on the NHS. Hospital appointments are taking a lot of time. Private insurance is also available in the UK. This helps too cut down the wait time. Some hospital appointments can take 6 months because of the pressure on the health system. Going private, you can get it done in a day or 2. Check the prices in the UK, consider having a private one too. Yes, treatment is free in the UK no doubt but under current circumstances, treatments are being delayed. A simple MRI is taking 4 months. I've received my MRI appointment after 4 months (now I don't need MRI) because I've taken treatment privately and healed. If you go for private treatment and don't have insurance then it is very expensive.

At the airtport both in India n UK every thing was quite smooth n easy n not at all time consuming. Frm Airport v took taxies to our destination n all went well. Needless to say, Ur all the videos r helping me alot to plan ahead n this Bank wala video is right at the time as next week v gona open Bank Aacount. But still v could nt able to figure out wth which Bank she should go. HSBC, Barcleys, Lloyd or Stanender !! V r trying to figure out. Any suggession frm ur side frm these 4 !!

Thanks Gaurav! Happy to know everything worked out well for you. I'd give you one advice - Ask Manya to speak with her seniors (preferably Indians) in UOM and ask them about the bank they are currently using and how was their experience with it. She'll get genuine feedback and would make it easier for you to decide.

Barclays - very good banking app. Dozens of features. Avoids trips to bank for small issues. Can freeze your card using app if card is lost. If found,unfreeze it. No need to call the bank or report it. It has many features. Lloyds (used to be lloyds tsb bank) - is a big bank and has branches in small villages too. App is very good. Same as Halifax, bank of Scotland. Lloyds is UK's biggest land lord. App is one step behind barclays HSBC - foreign bank in the UK. App is very poor. Even business app is crap with very limited features. Doesn't have too many branches in small towns. One has to travel far to do some tasks like depositing cheque over 1000, you have to visit the branch. Santander - going to close 111 branches in the UK. Was announced in March. There are banks and then building societies. People also open accounts in building societies.

@@500BHP Thank you so much Ankush as always. Its a big help as we are really confuse and if you will not tell most probably we will getting the account open in HSBC but after your information we opted Barclays as of now. Though Lloyds is also very nice but to start with I told Manya to go with Barclays. Do you know if there is any option in it as Student account, STD saving account or something like that. Though we can enquire in the bank as well but just in case you know. Which account is better in account if they have few option to opt from.

@@anugauravanu you're welcome. What you need right now is a current account with a debit card. Pick the one which is free with a debit card with a good limit of withdrawal from the cash point. Once opened, savings can be opened at any time. Can be opened from home. Talk to bank about what is Known as cash ISA. there are some ISA accounts where you put in fixed amount of money every year and then government pays a good interest on it. We used to have an isa with 25% interest. These are helpful when buying house as you get some contribution from the government. Right now, simply get a current account with a debit card. Savings account can be done later and money can be transferred from saving to current using the app as you can't withdraw from savings at ATM 🏧 Like india. Here money goes out of the current account at atm 🏧

@@500BHP I explored a bit on Barclays site and it seems current account is not possible (as of now) for international students as they need address for 3 years etc. For students there is a student account which needs to be open from Barclays app, which I will illustrate to Manya. But I could not able to understand this, if you can please help me to understand: If you’re a UK student, you don’t need to pay interest on arranged overdrafts up to £1,500. Our maximum interest-free arranged student overdraft limits are From account opening and during your first term: up to £500. Year 1: up to £1,000. Year 2 and beyond: up to £1,500. No interest is payable on arranged overdrafts. The maximum arranged overdraft amount could be different than the amounts shown above (subject to application, financial circumstances, borrowing history and lending criteria). Arranged overdrafts are repayable on demand. Interest charges are variable......... along with it, I need to know if its zero balance account or we need to keep some (500-1000-1500 pounds) money in it ?

debit vs credit card which is better?
@500BHP2 жыл бұрын
You can't tell which is better. Debit card - you put your money, you spend it. Credit - you borrow money and you pay it back using debit card. If you can't pay, you become bankrupt. So they are both different. You can't say which is better. If you don't have money right now but you know that at the end of the month you'll get paid, then you can use credit card and pay it back when you are paid. At this stage credit card is better for you. If you don't have money and spend using credit then this is worse for you. In nut shell, if you have money in bank, debit card is best. If you don't have it now but will have it in a month, then credit card will save you for now but you'll have to pay it back (sometimes with interest). Depends on your situation

@anugauravanu2 жыл бұрын
Hello Esha, we were also in same kind of situation. We booked our flight for 1 Oct and last day to attend our session physically is 11 Oct. So in this situation what you can do is.. Number 1 - Send your Visa, Air Tkts & if any accommodation booking to your uni and inform that your visit is planned. Number 2 - Book test to release test which is day 5 test in a clinic which gives PCR test result on the same day and asap you get its result you can start attending offline classes, this is what my daughter is doing in UoM. We came on 1st Oct. Now tomm, 6th Oct, we have our day 5 test to release test and on 6th, Manya ll be going to uni to attend offline classes. Inform your uni that you will be 2 days late. For example, if you are flying on 10th so 10 Oct ll be your day zero. and 11 will be day 1. On 15 you can book your day 5 test in clinic and its result ll come on same day and from 16th you can attend your uni offline. Good Luck.

You will "NEED" the national insurance number even if you are working part time or even 1 hour a month. As long as you are getting a pay slip, you need your national insurance number. If you are working cash in hand (by not declaring to government that you are working) then you won't need national insurance nunber even if you are working 100 hours a week. This means you are not paying tax and national insurance. National insurance is like aadhar card in India to which everything gets linked. Even though don't pay tax on an Income below 12500 but you will still need the NI for your employer. Remember, your employer also pays national insurance on your income Employers pay Class 1 NICs of 13.8% on all earnings above the secondary threshold for almost all employees. This rate has remained the same for several years. Secondary thresholds: 2021/22: £170 per week, £737 per month or £8,840 per year; 2020/21: £169 per week, £732 per month or £8,788 per year.
