HOW TO OPEN YOUR LOCKED HOOD WITH A BROKEN LATCH AND RELEASE CABLE

I had my left (seen from the driver) latch not opening because the shorter of the split cables was corroded stuck. So I took off the front part of the plastic fender insert, and could just pass my hand up to grip the plastic box where the cable coming from the lever in the driver footwell connects to the 2 cables to the 2 latches. A hard pull on the whole thing, and the left latch opened..... Good stuff. It really helps to have already the replacement cable so you see how it is made up. Installing the new split cable was a thing of less than 10 minutes afterwards. Whole operation about 3 hours.

Thank you so much for this! Our cable broke and we could not get one side of the hood open. On top of all that, we'd just taken the ECU in for repair so we couldn't even drive it anywhere to get fixed! My husband was ready to pull out the hole saw and drill through the hood when I decide to Google the problem. Watched your video (okay, I admit, I fast-forwarded to the good part) and it worked like a charm! Hubbo took off the tire and the plastic underpanels, and then he could access the hood latch. Thanks, man!

Good idea, the body shop. I have a 2015 Volvo XC70. hood is not opening, inside cable is loose. Volvo dealer also charges $175+ an hour. It will be expensive repair. Been watching videos, I came across some for Volvo and they go through the grille, but I couldn't get my grille off--broke one tab already. My battery also need to be charged every week to 10 days--can't do that when can't open the hood. Kinda SOL.

You are right the fasted way is take the wheel off and pull ..but the main thing is to open another cars hood see how all the pieces go then start..sometimes the lip in-between the latch :once you shut your hood: it's attached to the cables end .it sometimes brake..also lube it once open..I took the both sides off my passenger side was shut the other side of the hood had half inch gap...

+Selina Blanco Just one was stuck. The other two popped open just enough to turn on my hood open alarm dinger and drive me crazy. Spray with wd-40 every 6 months to avoid sticking.

Selina Blanco it works on clk 430 models also they have 3 latches as well you have to go into the wheel well and pull on cable and hood pops
