Temporal Anti Aliasing doesn't use AI. Where did you hear that? TAA is over a decade old and only smoothes edges on moving objects. It is therefor the opposite of what you'd want for taking screenshots of a scene with mostly static objects. That's what you use high SMAA or DLSS for. Also, unless you have a ten year old monitor without FreeSync, deactivate vsync. You don't need it, it adds immense input lag by its very nature, and half of all games implement it so badly it can eat up more performance than AA. A good way to get high fps at high AA levels still is to force SGSSAA (SMAA flag appears to be gone) in the driver (e.g. using NV Profile Inspector) and then add TAA within the game. And don't pick a resolution with 30Hz, at least if you a NV card. The NVidia driver has several flavors of framerate limiters built in, choosing the right one can drastically reduce gpu overhead and load.

Others have mentioned disable vsync, that alone artificially limits framerate lower than it should be. there may also be a bug where you may lower resolution but it is actually keeping it at 4K 30Hz (30fps). Everyone so far on 4K is seeing 10-15fps without setting adjustment.

My comment is really more aimed for the lower end users that may be reading this. I have an i5-9400f 16g ram 1660gpu so as bargain bucket as you can get I do not have a 4k monitor so my settings are set for 1080p. I average at 27-35fps with occasional dips to 12-17 since the day one patch. my settings are:- anti alliasing, cloud quality, and motion blur all disabled, texutre quality, level of detail both set to high, deapth of field and reflection quality low everything else set to medium I have not touched any of the advanced settings because I'm 50 and will probably break more than I fix.

Euh yeah, if you run the game at 30hz and enable v-sync of course your fps is capped at 30. V-sync is a technique used to create a more stable image and gets rid of things like screen tearing by syncing the refresh rate of your screen, the amount of Herz or hz, to your fps. This all has absolutely nothing to do with Cities Skylines 2. There might be some bug or glitch that requires you to restart the game in order for the game to run at the new refresh settings when you change things around, but a hard cap almost always has to do with a syncing issue. That is, if its not hard capped by the game itself like many console ports suffer from, or if the game engine and gameplay itself is tied to the amount of frames. In that case, think of games like Streetfighter or Dark Souls that require very tight and specific timings tied to frames. For example, if a certain ability grants you invulnerability for 5 frames, you cant just change the framerate because that would impact the function of that ability directly.

Interesting information on the Settings that you provided. But as for the low FPS that you were getting before you made these adjustments is something that has nothing to do with your hardware in your PC. It is in fact from another tech group that took a close look at the game and found the game is extremely poorly on optimized and that many objects have way too many polygons residing in those objects and shadows are not being used correctly in the game that's causing your CPU and GPU to work way too hard because they are processing useless information that's causing massive FPS droppage. What the developer needs to do is go back to the drawing board and clean up a lot of its objects and readjust the shading factor in the game where it doesn't need to put shadows underneath cars are just sitting still since that is literally pointless and wasting valuable resources in your computer. In addition, the tech group also discovered that many of the settings that you're adjusting the game or not behaving correctly because again the developer rushed in getting the game out the door before it was properly ready. Please forgive me if I sound a little bit sour on some of the stuff but frankly I don't like game developers that are more interested in seeking profit as opposed to doing careful work. This is by far one of the biggest problems in the gaming industry today too many game developers with too many highfalutin stockholders that are interested in getting money now as opposed to building the game correctly. This game would also benefit a lot if the developer took time out to integrate Vulkan into it because it would help to reduce the stress and strain on the hardware items in your PC.

I noticed super lag in the setting when i opened the games. I found a few settings that fixed that right away. Motion blur and depth of field, turn off.. that fixed the menu problems, and more fps in game right out of the gecko. Volumetric and Ambient are also a setting that prolly will cause problems. Not tested yet, had to go to work before testing. But its a usual problematic setting.

I am glad I did not pre purchase this game and waited to see the performance side, having a high system myself, I expect 60+ fps @ 1440p (minimum) like I have with all thee games I own. People with a 32 Core CPU, an RTX4090 and 128Gb RAM are experiencing low fps, some show in the low 10's on a mildly big city, 20k population. The fact there is a 30Hz screen resolution setting tell us this game has not been designed for performance. It is not computer hardware that makes this game run slow, it is the fact they are still using the Unity Game Engine. They did not learn from CS:1 and simply gave us a fantastic looking upgrade to an already dismal performing game. Game needs to be re-designed away from Unity for performance.

"A smooth gaming experience" - seriously.. Not even with these tweaks can it be seen as "a smooth gaming experience". Some people have the most expensive gaming hardware money can buy and are not getting above 30 FPS, it is absolutely unacceptable. Yes, some say you do not need loads of FPS in this game - however, moving the camera around your city with anything less than 60 just feels like a clunky mess. The game does not even look that good to warrant such heavy GPU utilization, they have messed up heavily. You shouldn't have to turn settings down when you have the best hardware money can buy to be able to run this game, it is such a joke and people shouldn't defend it. We have so many game publishers who think it is okay to release games that aren't ready and then just patch them.. But you are paying a full price and should expect a fully working product.

​@@TotalXclipse Because the camera is so much smoother when you move around your city with 60 as opposed to 25-30. You can make the argument, that no game really needs 60, as long as everyone is experiencing the game in the same way - however, that doesn't mean that it feels smooth. Whether the game needs 60 or not is more or less irrelevant, the fact that it isn't optimized at launch is the problem. As I said, not even a 4090 can run this at stable 60, hell it can't even run it at a stable 30 if everything is maxed out. I wasn't aware that they just did an optimization patch. It is definitely a step in the right direction.

I got 50 FPS with my settings. My spec : 13gen I9 Intel , 32gb RAM, Nvidia RTX 4080. Installed on m2 drive. (pop in this city 5k. atm.) Graphic settings in game: res: 1920x1080x 144Hz , Fullscreen Windowed , Vsync off , DoFmode Disabled , Global Graphics Quality High. Motion blur off. Rest is on max. PS! my FPS is jumping from 50 fps to 80 fps depends on what I am looking at or doing. But have not been under 30 fps (yet). Also in "General tab -> Performance Preference on Frame-rate . I heard that the main reasons of lagging becauze of thousand of peopme are wapking with high detailed polygons. THAT includes their teeth, which is damn high. And it's a very unnecessary to make it high detail for a city simulation game. I hope for now, there's a mod ro replace every citizens into a very simple polygons for now.
