Some of these settings I really don't recommend and some can actually slow down your computer experience overall. Deleting everything in prefetch is completely unnecessary, it's very well managed by windows. Disabling superfetch can only help in very specific cases of RAM limitation when using a RAM intensive process, otherwise it'll actually slow your computer. Selecting number of processors in BOOT options is unnecessary as Windows will automatically use the max number by default (this is as far as I am so far in the vid) Sooo.... idk man... use with caution?

He's giving tons of bad info here, turning off system restore, turning off superfetch and on and on. Trust me man... SuperFetch is meant to speed up your PC performance (that's the point!). He didn't even warn people about fucking with the registry (the source of most of their problems). He also told people to clean out important windows files from the disc cleanup (some stuff you should not delete unless you really need the space) which can cause update issues, driver issues, problem troubleshooting issues etc.. I could go on and on and fucking ON! The virtual memory tip he gave is causing people lots of errors to (see other comments). This noob is giving terrible info! Trust me man, I would undo most of that shit. On top of that, much of the tips he gave makes NO DIFFERENCE at all and will not affect performance! He's one of those people who thinks he knows computers when really he's just a knob! It's painful seeing how many comments here are people who got their PC fucked by this info! Sigh.

Istarian I did this to my Asus laptop I bought 6 months ago. I saw no noticeable differences in performance at all and honestly got noticeably more lag in gameplay. I ended up reverting everything back that I could remember what it originally was. However, now my laptop takes much longer to startup and the screen won't turn on after I raise the screen if I put it in sleep mode. I have to restart to get my screen come on. These are the only issues I'm experiencing. Can you help with the extremely slow start up time?
@bran106576 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend not following this video, there are many errors and changes he is doing to the computer to where if changed may affect your performance negatively and usability of the computer, he does not explain anything and just tells you to take his word. Anyone who says that DO NOT TRUST THEM. Driver Boosting software is well known and renowned to not be very effective and in fact cause negative issues in the tech community. Do research before blindly editing your computers sensitive services and registry files while watching a 30 minute video put together on youtube. This video MAY help you but I strongly advise doing further research if you are going to watch this video if you do not know what you are doing.

I advise everyone to avoid following the mentioned steps - these will reduce performance and/or make the system unstable (prefetch & additional boot cores option which is meant to be used as a limit for simulation purposes & the mentioned paging file changes) and increase overall power usage. Most of the other steps will have no effect on performance. Only thing I would recommend is disable startup programs and uninstall unwanted applications.

I feel sorry for people who tried this and can't figure out how to reverse it all. It's really not cool to recommend tweaks like this without also warning people that it could cause problems. It always pays to have a backup or restore point, but if you don't know better and someone tells you it's gonna do nothing but make your computer more "optimized" why would you? Hell, I'm willing to bet some of the people who tried this have already disabled system restore because some (maybe just as ignorant) douche told them they'll get better frame rates if they do. To me, as someone who's been building PC's for a long time, it's frustrating to see stuff like this. For people who aren't in the know, this adds to the sea of bad information that makes it harder for them to become more competent users and ACTUALLY getting the most for their money. I strive to do that in the builds that I do for people. I choose components carefully and do my best to educate the people I build for in order to help them maximize their user experience. So I guess its sort of personal. None of these tweaks should be TOO too bad, honestly. I actually tried them for fun. I'm sick and stuck inside today so I figured why not? My computer still ran... ...just really unstable and almost unusable at times. It's worth mentioning that it didn't benchmark any better, not that I'm surprised. I got slightly better boot times and some programs would launch faster. I should also note that ALL of the games I tried to run would predictably CTD within a minute or two, usually when loading something in-game. That's not very good gaming performance! :P They're mostly reversible, just reverse-engineer the registry changes and such. Though if you don't really know what you're doing, both of those IObit apps can do things behind the scenes that are pretty nasty. The driver stuff is just shady and lets face it, if you use something like that you probably don't know how to fix your drivers and API's and may also have trouble removing the malware I suspect is behind it. The "optimization" software is icky, too. Some of the changes it makes, it doesn't clearly outline in a way where you can even tell what they actually did, let alone reverse it. It's not as simple as reverting the settings and uninstalling the software for either of these. Nasty, nasty stuff. More damaging than most malware. The other apps aren't worth mentioning. They probably won't hurt anything, but also don't help anything. CCleaner can cause some damage, but not really the way it's used here. It's the registry cleaner and some of the advanced options that will really hurt you. I personally didn't bother trying to reverse any of this. I just rolled back to a backup I made right before. It would have been much more work to actually go through and weed all of the bullshit out! I'm bored, but not THAT bored. Looking at the comments, I think some of you may have other problems. Maybe this isn't the first set of tweaks you've applied recently? ;) Or maybe just generally poor practice. Don't buy a new PC. Research how to fix this and learn to do it. It'll take a lot of time and effort, but you'll be SO much better off for it. And if you can't, there's no shame in admitting that you're in over your head. Track down a local professional and have them fix it. They're out there, beyond the big box. And they will save you a lot of time/money. Just beware of snake oil salesmen. They are not "upgrading" your PC. It's more of a repair. All they should be doing is salvaging your data and getting things working again, not "boosting" your performance or anything like that. And for christ's sake people, USE BACKUP SOFTWARE. Buy an external drive for like 60 bucks and do regular backups. It's not hard and it will save you 99/100 times.

Can you help Istarian? I'll just copy and paste what I commented elsewhere: Hard Drive started to make occasional "clicking" noise after I messed with my PC because of this video. I set the stuff like the boot processors and the regedits back to default and enabled superfetch, didn't fix the issue. I normally only heard this "revving" and then the one "tick" when my HDD was idle and it booted up but now the ticks are somewhat common and my PC seems to sometimes stutter when it happens as well. Also messed with the virtual memory which most likely causes this but I just set it back to "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" so it manages my C: drive (SSD) and my hard drive E: just has "none", could changing anything with these fix the problem? Not 100% sure it's hard drive making the clicking noise and doesn't seem like the "click of death" since it didn't occur before I messed with the stuff in this video. Unless I broke something permanently lmao..
@Roy-ex8qr6 жыл бұрын
1haunt - I'm not %100 sure but I don't think anything in this video would cause a mechanical problem. I think the clicking is a total coincidence. For now here's what to do (if it's the hard drive). Open the command prompt as ADMIN (right click the start menu icon if you have windows 10 and you will see it there). Type "chkdsk /r" and hit ENTER. It will prob ask you to do in computer restart so type Y when it does (as in yes). If it works, restart the computer. Bare in mind this can take a very long time to do (sometimes it can take an entire day or more). This will attempt to repair the hard drive and any bad sectors. Sometimes it will look like the scan is frozen. It's not, let it sit. It takes a long time. Also, the chkdsk has to check the hard drive that's clicking (not the SSD). So make sure the first letter (the letter of the drive) is the right one. It should already be set right if your mechanical drive is your main hard drive with Windows on it. Good luck (though this may not fix it).

Although I did not hear it stated at the beginning of this video. If you do not know what you are doing. It is best to perform only one of these adjustments at a time, reboot your PC and check to see how it affects your system. If you are more savvy then make multiple adjustments or changes before rebooting your PC. There are actually many good tuneup methods in the video. Just don't perform all of them simultaneously unless you know what you are doing.

Don't turn off your page file even with 16GB of RAM. If Windows doesn't need it you won't notice, when Windows does need it you will notice. There are also some applications/games that can break by turning it off. Deus Ex Mankind Divided is a good example, the game can crash on startup with page file disabled regardless of how much RAM you have.

@Yurie136 жыл бұрын
actually u can do this easy by using CCleaner then add %TEMP% in included files/folder to delete... so every time u clean your PC with CCleaner.. temp is now included in that... kinda wrong on pagefile.. it really depends on the user.. some programs won't run on no-pagefile PC.. at least put some page file on your Boot Drive and put a large page file in your faster Drive (optimal option).. and always defrag at least once a month.. these things doesn't only applies on gaming but also for normal usage..

ATTENTION! At 10:29 DO NOT TURN OFF Microphone settings with newer/up to date windows updates. When you hit OFF at the top of that section, it will turn off your microphone access for ALL applications, not just the windows applications that eat resources. So, leave the main selection ON, turn off any of the windows apps you don't want having access. And then make sure that "Allow desktop apps to access your microphone" setting is ON, that way Discord, Games, and other video conference apps actually work with your mic. This is a new issue.

Note: If you disable superfetch, the game you run will load more data into the RAM instead of the HDD because you disabled this option, so for background tasks, you will have less memory to use. Like me, I alt+tab out of games pretty often (gf and friends reason), and I tried to disable it, then I noticed almost nothing in game performance but in background tasks, like chrome, etc.. they were slow af. and i just enabled this option again. TLDR: If you have a fast enough hdd for superfetch, AND you alt tab pretty often, you should leave this option enabled, otherwise turn it off.

Umm... I think I have a intel card, so what do I do to upgrade it?
@Bigghewi7 жыл бұрын
If you're not sure what kind of card you have, you should just do some research on PC's in general. If you have an older PC some GPU's won't work well/at all. You need to get a GPU that isn't too powerful because your CPU won't be able to utilize all of the GPU's potential. (this is known as a bottle neck) You end up having a GPU that gets restricted by your CPU on older PC's. So you kind of need to know your CPU, Power supply, and Mother Board so that you aren't wasting money on incompatible parts.

I'm sorry to say but a lot of these tips are terribly unnecessary, and can lead to system instability. Many of these "tips" have been debunked through and through has having no effect and potentially breaking something else. I can't believe I'm seeing some of these still in 2017 - I remember all the way back to the days Windows 2000 of people recommending these things and not knowing what they are talking about. I highly recommend not following this video. Some points I want to make: - DO NOT select all from the AppData -> Local -> Temp folder and delete everything. Just because a file isn't currently being used in the temp directory, doesn't mean a program wont need it later on. Deleting all temp files can sometimes fuck up applications. The safest way to clear temp files is to download CCleaner and in its settings, allow it to only delete temp files OLDER THAN 24 HOURS. This ensures it gets rid of stale temp files and not something still being actively written to or read from. - Leave Superfetch and Prefetch alone. If Windows detects you have an SSD, it automatically disables Superfetch and uses Prefetch in an SSD-friendly manner. - STAY OUT OF SERVICES UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I cannot stress this enough. 99% of services are kilobytes in size and run idle the majority of the time unless they are called upon for small miscellaneous background tasks. By willy-nilly disabling services you will soon find various applications not working properly - No-GUI Boot does literally nothing for performance, maybe a fraction of a second at most. It's not harmful, but useless - Changing wallpaper to "solid color" for a performance boost. Unless you're running hardware from pre-2000's, this is bullshit - "If you have more than 16 GB of RAM disable the pagefile" NO! He doesn't understand how Windows manages RAM. Even with 16GB of RAM, Windows still utilizes the pagefile for necessary tasks that keep active items in RAM working efficiently. By disabling the pagefile, it forces Windows to use RAM inefficiently under certain circumstances. Read more here fossbytes.com/windows-page-file-disable-pc-lots-ram/ - Only disable System Restore if you plan to make your own reliable backup solution. I personally take nightly snapshots of my PC and store them to a network attached storage drive. Leaving your system with no forms of recovery is stupid. - IOBit is a Chinese software company that was caught stealing virus definitions from Malwarebytes in the past. I do not trust them. Source: forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/29681-iobit-steals-malwarebytes-intellectual-property/ - In general, you don't need a driver updater. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Updating unnecessary drivers just for the sake of updating can introduce new bugs or incompatibilities. Just stick to updating graphics drivers and that's it. What driver update tools are useful for, is if you are experiencing an actual issue, then by all means try updating the driver. And definitely DO NOT update drivers in bulk as shown in the video, otherwise if you do experience an issue you will never know what caused it.

Michael L I deleted the stuff in prefetch... can you help me? I only did the 1st to steps in the video but I want prefetch back
@mike4066 жыл бұрын
As long as you leave the Superfetch service running as normal and didn't disable Prefetch in Regedit, the folder will re-populate itself as necessary. Prefetch is essentially a folder of cached application data that Windows automatically determines on its own based on how commonly you use a program. It uses a special algorithm to help load data faster for applications that you commonly use. Think of it as a priority list of your commonly used programs that Windows tries its best to load as fast as it can when they are opened. 99% of the time you never need to manually erase the info in the Prefetch folder or disable it. The bad recommendation of doing this originated when consumer SSDs were a new technology. Back in the day of early SSD's, it made some sense to disable these features as the increased writing of this data to the drive would wear it out. Nowadays, SSD's are incredibly robust and are not susceptible to nearly as much wear as they used to. Also with Windows 7, 8 and 10, the system automatically optimizes the Prefetch and Superfetch systems when it detects an SSD, allowing it to use the technology but in a optimized way to work with solid state technology. I know this was a long winded response, but I hope this helps clear up your concerns.

Michael L so if I followed the idiot who made the videos instructions for deleting the prefetch files, I’m good?

The reason I clicked this video is because of BF1. It was running awfully on my rig, even in the lowest settings. Got about 40-60 FPS on a 1070 and i5 3570k, and there was incredibly frustrating stutter. Now I’m getting a solid 90 FPS! Thanks a bunch, my computer also feels generally faster!

try lowering your resolution, normally it helps to run your OS on 4:3 res, but if your rig is powerful enough, go ahead and go up more until you’re happy with your performance

Yeah, I installed each update individually and though it didn't cause problems initially, it turns out they installed drivers for different hardware skus than whats inside my machine, resulting in my PCI device drivers not functioning correctly (which impacted the bandwidth use of my GPU). Shoulda stuck to the official route rather than using that pile of wank to update my drivers. To add insult to injury Iobit always adds in some PUPs (potentially unwanted programs)/ adware to their program, which is not nice.

I have watched this video and done almost everything. 10:26 in the video you said "Microphone - Off! Again! This is only to do with Windows Apps". After this I suddenly couldn't hear the other speaking in voice chat in Overwatch. Not talk to them either. I checked my headset if it was broken, but it's working fine. I tried with another headset with headphone jack and microphone jack, but it was same issue there. I have spent a whole day to figure it out what was causing this. Then I came across this setting again. I turned microphone on again and now it's working again. So it's NOT just apps from Microsoft store that will be muted. It's the whole microphone, for everything in computer. I turned the microphone ON and the apps in the list below to OFF.
