Well done! Suggestions for a next video: Ceramic temperature when asking the coffee: "chávena fria" / "chávena escaldada" respectively cold or hot cup. Sequence: "sem princípio" / "sem fim" the bartender let the coffee running a little before putting the cup / or take the cup before ending "Carioca": make a light coffee with the leftover of the previous coffee. You can also ask the expresso asking for a "bica" or, if you are in northern Portugal area: "cimbalino". So one can make combos with all of that: "uma bica curta em chávena escladada sem princípio" Or challenge the memory and communication of the coffee shop at the end of a meal with friends ordening looks like a rap music: "6 bicas, 3 normais, 2 cheia e uma curta. Uma das cheias é em chávena escladada sem princípio, a outra é descafeinada. As normais são todas em chávena fria menos uma que é escladada e pingada. A curta leva um cheirinho e é em chávena fria".

Italiano e Curto are the same. Some here say "italiano" because it reminds of the size of the "ristretto" served in italy . For portugueses, it is kind of "too little coffee ", thats why the reference as a different coffee. But it is not common to order this, normally we order the Bica or , if someone dont want to drink too much coffee, we prefer to mix it with milk.

@andredemony
@andredemony 2 ай бұрын
More or less... It´s "italiana", not italiano. Uma (bica) italiana. It used to be the same as curto, but there is more variation of terms nowadays, at least in Lisbon, so that a lot of baristas have starting to use "Italiana" for very low coffee like the Italian Ristretto, leaving the "cafe curto" term for a normal expresso that is cut at the point when the thicker part of the shot ends.

Several wrong informations in a video that is suposed to be informative. What a shame. 1) You can order any café drink in a decaf variety. Just say you wait it decaf: descafeinado pingado, or garoto descafeinado, for example. 2) Meia de leite is NOT the same as a cappuccino. It's simply 50% coffee and 50% steamed milk. Cappuccino ads milk foam this. 3) Galão is more milk (3/4) than coffee (1/4). You said it the wrong way around. 4) Meia de leite and galão have the same amount of coffee - one expresso - and vary in the amount of milk.
@silviasilva8341

I came here to say exactly that. Although the gallon is 3/4 milk and 1/4 coffee. 3/4 and 1/2 don't add up. Sometimes people ask for a darker gallon and in this case it will be 2/3 milk and 1/3 coffee more or less. In the Algarve coastal area, seaside cafes sometimes add foamed milk on top of the milk sock and gallon, mainly for tourists.

Great job, you get it it, mostly. Coffee in Portugal is very simple. Regular coffee (café) is an expresso and the short version (italiana) is a ristretto, hence the reference to Italy. The rest is as you say. The size chart is as follows: 1/8 cup “italiana” 1/4 cup “café”, “café pingado” (“pingado” is the short name), garoto and descafeinado. “Cheio” is just a topped up café, same cup size though. 1/2 cup “duplo” and “abatatado”, being that “duplo” is short for “café duplo” (double expresso) and finally “meia de leite”. 1 cup “galão”, the same as “meia-de-leite” but double size, traditionally served in a glass without a handle, the handle addition is a recent one. Cappuccino is not Portuguese, but has become more common, just because it’s great to feel that foamy milk. PS: A regular coffee (café) is called a “bica” in Lisbon. You will sound as connoisseur if you use it in Lisbon, it will make you look good if you care to. Cheers

Tourists look like fools? Obviously, just click bait/for engagement purposes. But unnecessary. You may just go with small coffee/espresso. Or coffee with milk. You may simply say bigger, smaller, stronger. No one will look like a fool. (Meia de leite = capuccino? NOOOOOOOOO way)

wake up, take a piss, wash hands and face, mix red wine, yellow sugar and pieces of *broa* in a bowl(its like doing morning cereals but with wine in place of milk and *broa* in the place of the cereals), eat that for breakfast followed by a *café com cheirinho* and there you go! ready to smash any obstacle on your way(possibly a wall or a lamp post if you decide to drive right after) 😅 only the strong ones can handle that potion of power🤣

Tourists won't order coffee to drink in the café anyway. I see them wandering the streets taking pictures of tiles while holding big "take away" coffee cups
