@fruitqueen94594 жыл бұрын
Single Step English thank you so much for your response. I m working at Chinese restaurant. Usually taking orders over the phone.So some times customers blame on me when they claim received wrong items which was their fault. Like one customer came back saying they don’t eat pork however when they placed order they didn’t tell me of that. Also , how do you tell customers when they told you “ I don’t want it if the food is cold”! While our driver is already on the way to deliver food to them. Sometimes customers don’t wanna bring back the return but want a refund ect. Hahah a lot of headaches. Do you have strategies for those problems to deal with??

Nice video, thx! I've just recently done something similar with my class. I think one important aspect is missing though - you could have included how to handle the tip in US restaurants as this is something that varies between for example Europe and the US. What do you think?

Thank you so much for your comment. I agree about the tipping aspect. Had to treat that as a separate lesson. What is your teaching context?
@FPr-dx9si4 жыл бұрын
@@SingleStepEnglish I agree. You also included additional info which I like! Thanks for asking, I am an English teacher at a Gymnasium (equivalent to a US High School) in Berlin, Germany.
@FPr-dx9si4 жыл бұрын
Actually, I just finished watching your tipping video - even though many aspects are explained very thoroughly, I still believe something to be missing. You never discuss the actual tipping procedure. For instance, in Germany if you order the check, the waiter will stand in front of you with their wallet. Let's assume the check is 50$ and you want to tip 10% and you have a 100$ bill on you. Now you would say "60 please" and the waiter would give you back 40$. I hope this is comprehensible. However, I don't think that is something you could do in the US, right?!

Thank you so much for this video! I have a question. Why is it "We also have carrot cake" and not a "We also have A carrot cake"?
@SingleStepEnglish3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! I think you will hear people use both. However, we have a carrot cake implies that the restaurant has one carrot cake. We have carrot cake implies that the restaurant has more than one cake. My question....do you prefer carrot cake or chocolate cake?
@polinavyakhireva99623 жыл бұрын
@@SingleStepEnglish carrot cake! Thank you for your answer.
@SingleStepEnglish3 жыл бұрын
Carrot cake is certainly delicious.
@SingleStepEnglish3 жыл бұрын
One more thing regarding A carrot cake v. carrot cake (your original question). If the server had forgotten and then remembered that the restaurant had carrot cake, they would probably say....We also have a carrot cake. In this case, the speaker would include the word A for emphasis. I will give you another example: Customer: What is the lunch special today? Server: We have ginger pork, beef stew, and a delicious seafood chowder. In this case, the server is trying to put emphasis on the seafood chowder. Or perhaps, the restaurant would like more customers to order the seafood dish ;-) I hope that helps.
