Another great vid for sure. I've lived on LI most of my life but never knew just how extensive the freight ops are as most of it is done during the over night hours when passenger traffic is at it's slowest.

Thanks. The track maps from the 50's and 60's show a truly amazing spiderweb of track work, all in a comparatively small area. Perfect for a switching layout!

Evidently you and I started at the same time. I bought a caboose and a piece of flex track in 1960 because id never seen anything like it. I bought an engine ( B&O dock side switcher when I was in the Navy in Rome Italy and saw them in a hobby shop. I finally bought a set with a power pack ( Mantua Santa Fa passenger set ), in1972. Hasn't stopped yet. 🤪🤪

My parents bought me a Tyco set in 1969-ish when we lived in Hawaii. 0-4-0 switcher, 3 cars and a caboose. The caboose was lettered for the PRR but was a style never used by them. Good job, Tyco!

Very enjoyable video. Interesting procedure for IDing car order in train. Good for newcomers to operations.

Is that the Walthers car float? I have one but I haven't built it yet. I also want to scratch build a container barge.
@longislandrailroadmontaukb9827 ай бұрын
It is the Walthers car float. It is designed so you can build it in a short or long version. Mine is the short versions and it holds 11 cars.

@@longislandrailroadmontaukb982 Hello, I understand that short version is just skipping the middle section in the kit?.. Could you possibly measure how long is it in this configuration? Walthers seems to not have it mentioned anywhere and to my guess it is somewhere around 70cm? Thank you in advance
@gsigs17 күн бұрын
@@sk8ll It is 68 cm exactly. Thanks for watching!

@@gsigs Thank you very much for the information.. One more thing, do you happen to know the distance between each of the three tracks on the float? I was able to find distance between two on carfloat apron, but not the distance between each of the three tracks.. I plan on using European gondolas and I'm bit afraid they won't fit before ordering... Thanks in advance for an answer
@gsigs16 күн бұрын
@@sk8ll The distance between the tracks, rail edge to rail edge, is about 23mm.
