Thank you, thank you! I felt that you were speaking directly to me. I was taught never to write in books, never to mess them up, and 23 years of working in a library only increased my desire to keep books as pristine as possible. So it's a big hurdle for me to overcome, to draw and paint in a sketchbook in a less than perfect way. So what you said about sketchbooks being for *studying* really penetrated and went from my brain straight to my heart! I am turning over a new leaf, literally and figuratively!

I agree 100%. Have had the same experience. This video nudges me a little bit closer to appreciating the exploratory learning process without that dread of defacing 'a book'. It's nice to know I'm not weirdly alone in this struggle.❤

@@drawingsinadrawer Yah but I hadn't thought of the extremely strong ethic of NEVER deface a book. I didn't even underline my texts through college.😀 I think it adds an extra layer of anxiety. Very glad Jan pointed this out. Certainly will give me something to think about.

Thank you for showing your sketchbooks, so amazing. Inspirations to just having fun and go for it and be creative. For me painting is stress relief and playing with colours and see what happens is pure fun. Forgetting the world around me and concentrating on the brush strokes is the best thing ever. Thanks for giving me more ideas.

Lovely sketchbook. I have several new sketchbooks waiting in the original package, but I also have about a dozen of them in progress. Among others, I do head portraits in an art creation sketchbook it has 160 pages, that’s a lot of portraits.

That is a lot! It shows up at the very end of the video and I love me a big sketchbook! The Viking was done with a few layers of watercolour but then the paper started to peal. Still a great sketchbook though! A dozen in progress is a lot! Wow!

It’s really interesting to see how your style has developed and encouraging. I particularly love your ‘hag’ and the badger has some much texture. Which sketchbook is your favourite for coping with lots of water to create such painterly effects?

Hello! So Etchr sketchbooks come in lighted paper 220 -230 gsm. The Baohong, first one, is 300 so holds more water, but they are both good. I use both. Etchr also has 300 gsm but pricy. Fiona x

@ thanks Fiona. I’ve just had a look and feel I can’t justify the price for my amateur art🙈. I have some heavyweight paper so think I shall cut that up and stick it in cheaper sketchbooks. I’m going to have a go at a badger I’m inspired so thank you 🙏

Hi Fiona, i love your youtube channel. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm trying to buy a hotpress journal. What is your recommendation? I can't seem to find any. Thank you so much, Ruth
@drawingsinadrawer6 күн бұрын
@@BeautifulExpression hello, dear. Hot pressed, in my experience, the best ones I have tried is this little Baohong hot pressed version ( brown cover landscape format ) or Etchr ( white canvas cover, but the thickness of the paper is a bit less. It’s 220 gsm while Baohong is 300, which means it will take more water). I hope this helps. Feel free to write back! Fiona x
