Great video on packing for a trip. one tip I can offer is: I pack a shirt, socks and underwear rolled into a quart bag. I put rubber bands around the shirt and under wear when I roll it up. then I only have to grab one bag when I stop for the night. also when I repack the dirty close I roll and put them in the bag and then put the rubber bands around the outside of the bag and I know it has been used. thanks

Roll your clothing and then use a compression bag to further let air out. Hugely different space requirements. Bike cover doubles up as a dry bag for tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat.

We travel for 2 months 2 up on a Goldwing no trailer. Daily up items on top including rain gear. We have foldable flat baseball caps for sun protection. We always carry a spot Gen recuse communicator as many places do not have cell service. If we go down we can get help anyplace. We also roll all clothing items but rubber band to keep them from unrolling and not needing to roll them up again.

Take quick dry clothes that can be washed out by hand and dry the next morning. Therfore you need to take less clothes.

If you have enough time, don't start with an overnighter for at first trial. First pack up your bike as if you were doing an overnighter, then take a trip around the block. Then you can see how the bike and you are doing. Get off an on it several times, because if this is very difficult, you might change your setup. Then, if you have that, park your bike in your garden or backyard and simulate an overnighter. Then you can see whether you forgot anything and snatch it out of your home. Saved me a lot of trouble on our first camping trip (that was car camping though). If you have done that, make a check list of your items you can use for your next trip. You might have to adapt that list to the circumstances you travel in.

Great ideas 💡. My wife has been rolling clothes for years, it does work great. If you don't want to get wet ,you don't need a motorcycle. It is going to happen!

The trial run can be: load up, run a couple miles out and back and camp for the night in your back yard. If you forgot something, it is easily remedied. if you need to swap something out, also easily remedied. Best of all, you don't have to remember what that item was that need swapped or was forgotten after you get home, it has already been taken care of.

- Save space by wrapping your water bottle with duct-tape and not have to find space to store a roll. - Store all tent gear in one lockable bag and all hotel gear in another so you unlatch only one bag to check-in. - When camping start with your tent bag, set up your tent, tarp, sleeping-mat, etc. then just take your hotel bag into your tent. - Have two bottles, one for drinking water and another for washing. - Use the bike cover when you go on a hike to keep prying eyes from your gear. Most covers have grommet holes for a cable-lock. - Take a GPS on long trips. Your phone is not enough. Dedicated GPSes do not rely on data connections and they do not overheat in direct sunlight. - Store rain-sleeves for your boots and gloves with your rain gear. - Most importantly, fix a flat kit and a pump. I've been averaging about one flat a year.

Along with the regular items people pack I also pack a Black Light (and new batteries). I take it in the truck or on the bike while traveling. You wouldn't believe what you find in a motel room using a Black light. The more powerful the better. I have checked out of a place or two because of what the Black Light sees that you can't see with your naked eyes.
@markmath28832 жыл бұрын
Been riding since ‘72. What to pack is highly dependent on length of trip, camping or hoteling and size of bike. Some of my tips: maintain a consistent load plan (it’s what we did in the Army for loading tanks). Use compression sacks (waterproof and compacts clothing). AAA card or similar road service plan. Air pump, tire gauge, zip ties, battery pack, chap stick, low profile shoes, waterproof motorcycle boots, proper motorcycle gear for all weather, Tilley or similar hat, face shield and windshield cleaner/cloth, GPS (I use two Garmins) and map. I pack lightweight breathable shirts (Ts, short and long sleeve); wear LD Comfort undergarments, wear mesh jacket/pants if hot weather or Klim suit if in potentially varying temperature ranges. Set of off-bike clothing. Waterproof cover sufficient to cover top of bike (packs small). I only do hotels so I have one bag for everything I need in the hotel. As clothes get dirty I switch them out with clean.

Keep cash, keys, important documents at least in 2 places. Don't store your house key (if you have one) with anything that has your address. Having lost my wallet on the road (29 state trip - 3 months). You don't want to lose the only copies of things. Make sure you have card numbers & phone numbers someplace secure so If you lose them you can easily call and cancel - you can also order replacements to be shipped to someplace you're heading. Pack heavy stuff on the bottom. If it's not emergency gear (tire patch, battery jumper, etc.) if you don't use it multiple times a week - consider shipping it home - less is better.

Here's one for ya I learned from a veteran long distance rider. when you stop and open a bag, pouch, saddlebag or any storage compartment close it every time you open it even if you know your getting back in it before you leave.. it happens we forget and drive off with an open bag..

This is probably a silly question but I'm a baby in the motorcycle world so I'm going to ask it anyway. What kind of socks do you wear with tall motorcycle boots when it's hot outside? Also, I've heard Kryptonite Keeper 5-S2 Disc Lock is extremely difficult to cut and therefore helps prevent theft of motorcycles. Do you use anything like that?
@deenhubin37662 жыл бұрын
Anjie, regarding socks, look at merino wool blend over the calf socks. I like the Point6 brand as they are guaranteed for life, and come in many different styles and weights. They breathe well and are naturally antibacterial. I frequently use their snowboarding socks as they are thicker in the shin area.

Medication and Quick food items.
@Sledge-fu5zr2 жыл бұрын
Take small versions of items you can purchase again. If you stay in hotels, they most always have soap and shampoo so you do not need to pack them. Small things add up in weight and space. Take as many items as you can which are mulit-use. Medications and vitamins in small daily use bags and in one large plastic bag. No bottles they take much space. Anything that can be repackage to flexible small packing is great.

All good stuff. I would tape (hide) a spare key inside an indicator as a recovery screwdriver is MUCH easier to find then a replacement key. Tip 11. Take less and ONLY vital stuff. When I was young I read an article in "Easy Rider" Magazine where a Rider tool only his Harley, a sleeping bag and a tin of beans on a trip. I did similar on warm Summer nights, and it was truly liberating. Take what you NEED, and nothing more ! Spare socks ! What are SOCKS !?!?!? . Good stuff young Lady. .
