When people laugh at me for "being a prepper" or something like that, my response is, "Even in the Bible we are instructed to keep oil in our lamps and to bring food into the storehouses..." The truth is no matter what the situation is, whether it be a natural or catastrophic disaster, no one os going to help us, especially our government. We can't depend on others. We must be self-sufficient. Things don't or won't look or feel so bleak on a full stomach. You can think with nutrients in your belly and your brain. You can rest better with a full belly and as a parent you feel better for your children and family. Maybe you don't have two to three years; but, you have three to six months. That's a start and you can feel good about being prepared for your family. THANK YOU for sharing this, Mrs. Becky.

@@tama3442 This is why a disclaimer is on our American money, "In God we trust" it means that this money is not the source of our wealth or what feeds us or keeps us safe. That man does not live on bread alone but every utterance that comes forth from the mouth of God. God gives us wisdom to prepare. Like the old saying goes, pray for potatoes but grab a hoe. God feeds every bird but he doesn't throw the worms into the nest. The Lord helps those who help themselves.

I have "some" stuff put back. Unfortunately, I can't do the canning, dehydrating, etc. So I rely on rotating my stores by the shelf dates. I have probably enough "food" to last me and my granddaughter a couple of months or so. Water is another story. Water Storage in an Apt is pretty tricky, so I need to figure out some sort of Water collection/filtration system. But being a handicapped senior on SS only that's going to be a challenge.

We are heading into a global financial crisis so it’s important to do some preparation for things we know we would have a hard time getting our hands on if supplies are low or prices are beyond our means. Medication, household products and some foods that have a long shelf life are a good start. Freeze drying, dehydrating and canning is super helpful when you have excess of something and can preserve it for those harder times. Cash on hand is also helpful if there is a long term power outage like Florida is experiencing with the recent Hurricane. If you didn’t have cash you could not buy gas or food or supplies. A lot of people found themselves in a tough tough situation they could never fathom.

@therealz 360z there are farming issues. There has been ground and air contamination. Poultry farms have gone up in smoke all over. People in Ohio, Pennsylvania and anyone along the path of the Ohio river have a grave concern for their health let alone being able to grow anything. For the rest of us, do we know where our food was grown or raised? These are forever chemicals. We don't want to be dependent on the government. That just gives them more control. Go Becky, you have given great info without fear. We need to be prepared and trust in God and as you said, help one another.

@SeleneStarr2 жыл бұрын
If you put salt or sugar in Mylar bags, do NOT add an oxygen absorber. It wil turn into bricks. Also, a flat iron (that you use on your hair) can be used to seal Mylar bags. It's actually the only way to seal a 5 gallon Mylar bag that you have put into a 5 gallon bucket. Thanks for the tips! I ordered your cookbook today on Amazon Prime Days.

Gram and Gramps each oft repeated words. "Waste not, Want not", guided me through life, but that is not my main guide post, no it was they themselves, their lives together and what they stood for, their family legacy so to speak. Gardens and farming were a fact of life and enriched our lives,and afore meals were eaten, we always ate well, they gave credit to their creator for that bounty, no matter how hard they had worked preparing it. Watch programs such as this one and am still awestruck by the ease modern life has become in the kitchens and ease of how available food has become. So much so that the ability of kitchen cooks to actually take little and make into bounty has become an almost lost skill and art. Am glad to see program such as yours, a program that should be and is sorely need today, introduced as part of early childhoods schools.

The only canned food that required an EXPIRATION date was baby food. The dates on other canned foods were always about the PEAK GOODNESS, not about nutritional value, and not required by the government. They were put there by the manufacturers.

I just saw the episode when you where talking about Brent. I am so sorry for your loss. I know how it is because me and my daughter has diabetes.

I've just gotten some mylar bags to store flour long term. I plan to store it in the freezer long term, but if I need the space I can take the flour out for shelf store plus the freeze time will kill any bugs that might have gotten in there. I love the flavor of Carolina Ground flour, the texture of the bread and biscuits are amazing.

Thank you for showing me something new - I didn't know now freeze drying at home is possible/I use to have a dehydrator and used to use it for fruits and herbs.

I believe we are to be good stewards of what God gives us,,and that is good reason to store food for the future.

I know we should prepare for emergencies and natural disasters, and not be scared. But I wonder if things were so bad that normal supplies would be out for weeks or months even, just how anyone would survive anyway in a circumstance like that (even with adequate supplies) unless they were very, very remote... very remote. Thank you for your wonderful videos!

Trust in the Lord for ALL things. Jesus said to not be anxious for anything. Do your best, pray and trust in Jesus. He is faithful!
