How to pack for a FLY CRUISE: top tips & hacks

The cases are out which can mean only one thing. The summer holidays are about to start and it's nearly time for our fly-cruise with Marella Cruises to North America! But how exactly to you plan for packing for a fly-cruise when luggage restrictions apply? Well, fear not, as I have lots of tips and hacks for you, including what to leave behind, what to exchange, and what to pop in your hand luggage. The principles will remain the same no matter the size of your case! You will have a couple harder decisions to make along the way, but it's all about what's most important to you on a cruise. Light drawstring bag or a mesh zipped pouch is also useful for the things you want at hand on the flight, book, iPad, phone, glasses, mints,lip salve etc. You can put in in seat pocket without fear of leaving anything behind in the dark depths of crumbs and grime that usually lurks at the bottom of the said pocket!

Great video if you are a bloke and don't have a shoe fetish... or wear heels 😂 can't believe you only take just one pair plus flip-flops 😳 top tips from me...buy the lightest case possible based on your budget, generally the more expensive the lighter the case...lighter cases mean more actual luggage. Also, where as much as you can...especially jackets...you can take them off and carry them on board the plane and doesn't count as luggage, great for colder cruises 😉

Hi Jamie, when I pack my suitcases I put two organza pouches filled with Lenor sent boosters in each suitcase not only does it keep my clothes smelling fresh, but I can use it when washing my clothes onboard. 😊

Packing cubes for the WIN! yes. Particularly on my last cruise on Iona, since there was a marked absence of drawers... keeps your private things private if you want. My suitcase isnt as swanky as yours but the cubes really saved on space. I roll my clothes and they come out much less creased than if you pack them flat. Great Video as usual Jamie and have a great cruise.

We sailing with Marella in September for 2 weeks,weve bought extra luggage allowance,as 20k as not enough for us at all..I wont bother with the cubes,as they dont give you any more room in your case,and the weight is the same

We’d never travel with that much - excessive - also, cubes are not supposed to give more room, they are there to help organise and make unpacking easier

I do find with the cubes you can get more in as you can compress the items more than just packing normally

Thanks Jamie and Matthew... A couple of suggestions: 1) Place tracking devices in your hand and checked luggage. Should it get lost, diverted, or stolen, you will be able to locate it and hopefully get it back. I have had a bag sit at the port and had a cruise agent recover it for me before departing the port. Take a picture of your packed luggage as you may need to share it with others. 2) If you are doing a lot of multi-modal (cars, trains, planes, ships, etc.) movement, consider not doing checked bags and pack for carry-on only ( with the intent some of you clothes will be laundered/reused half way though your journey). Two maxed out carry-ons (prime + personal) can equal a checked bag. Airlines are still understaffed and your checked luggage may not keep up with you on your journey. Lugging a heavy checked bag on ride shares, trains, subways is not fun as you are not assured of escalator/elevator service and may need to use stairs. 3) Pack 1-2 weeks ahead of travel and maintain a journal of what you are bringing and when it will be used. You will find, you can eliminate items before the departure date.

The problem with too many people doing this, is there isn't enough room on the plane for everyone to do it.

@@WheelyHeidi I am not sure of your location but on international and most domestic airlines there is room for everyone to bring a carry-on (overhead) and personal item (under seat). I travel quite often and problems arise when travelers bring luggage on-board that exceeds the size limits. I have seen massive personal item backpacks not go under the seat but take an additional spot overhead leading to problems. Where are you seeing this occur as I only travel premium airlines/seating?

Much simpler to just use plastic bags. The real tip you missed out is ask yourself - what did I not wear or use on my last holiday? Don't overpack.
