Hi - great video, well explained and very helpful. Can I ask how much your packed bike box with your couple of frame bags typically weighs?
@sebibuchs2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The whole box is usually between 12 and 16kg , well under the 20kg mark

perfect!! Did you take the air out of your tires??? And good to know where your chain should be...I would not have done that.
@sebibuchs3 жыл бұрын
thank you Cheryl! yes they remind you again at the airport to let some air out of your tires, i was running tubeless sometimes when I went to Thailand so I didn't let all out but more than half for sure. and yeah check if you have any parts that could be damaged because they are exposed and then try to "hide" and protect them in the box

Should be no problem I think as long as you don‘t take it with your carry on

What airline did you use? I would like to fly with Ryanair, I am afraid the box would be too big (it's seems the same size as yours).
@sebibuchs Жыл бұрын
Hey:) as I know Emirates Qatar and Thai take those boxes as normal luggage with no extra charge if you don‘t exceed the weight i don‘t know how ryanair handles it

Hi, did you end up travelling with Ryanair with that bike? Curios what was the experience? Did you have to purchase sports equipment OR did it fit into normal check bag and were there any issues? (planning to travel the same way). Thanks!

Did you do this packing at the airport? My problem is the bit between the train station and the airport, ie how to get from one to the other.
@sebibuchs Жыл бұрын
yeah I just asked a local bike shop for a box and then took the taxi or the train to the airport with the box in it

what if you have an integrated stem?
@sebibuchs2 жыл бұрын
Good point! That is a whole new problem for travelling with your bike, I‘m afraid you would need a specific bike bag for bikes like this

What is the cost to carry your bike through the airline option?
@petermcgreevy6386 Жыл бұрын
Zero in Australia under 25 Kg.

will they allow this in international checkin ? I plan to buy a bike from US and bring it to INdia
@sebibuchs2 жыл бұрын
I never had any issues, but it can of course depend on the country and the airline

Hello! What kind of baggage fee did the airline charge? Just the normal extra bag fee or something more excessive?

Hello. Mate is the standard cardboard box of bike allowed in air flight.. Or there is specific measurements? Did u improvise ur cardboard to make it smaller or its the original one?
@sebibuchs2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! There are several different sizes for boxes as some manufacturers tend to ship bikes in an almost ready to ride position, I took a trek box for roadbikes as roadbike boxes are normally the smallest (besides kids bikes) as for the airlines: you‘d have to check their policy beforehand but airlines like Thai, Emirates or Qatar all accept boxes like this as normal luggage (up to 20kg) but it would be your only piece of course so I always packed the rest in it as well such as clothes etc
@Ghanzboy232 жыл бұрын
Thanks.. Its also trek roadbike.. Size 50cm
@YogirajPujari2 жыл бұрын
Is this pack considered an checked-in item within the size and weight range? Do you have to pay extra for shipping the bike?
@christopherchong38992 жыл бұрын
Some airlines charge a nominal fee for carrying a bike as an oversize sports item - I have seen USD150 quoted. If you exceed the weight limits of your flight purchase, then you are charged per kg according to the airline's pricing.
@sebibuchs2 жыл бұрын
I travelled with 3 airlines so far where this box counts as your normal luggage: Thai Airways, Qatar and Emirates, however there are airlines that charge extra, I would surely check beforehand to be sure, also you would need to pack the rest of your gear in that box as well, and then of course you can have your carry on
