Hey Shane, your recent video was spot on. I happened that I started to paint figures finally and just started on the Dragon 1/16 th scale Dragon Tank Commander and did his jacket in the summer Oak Leaf variety. Actually followed the same approach as you did.

cheers! As for painting wounded and dead figures, you should be looking to add either blue, grey or green hue to flesh tones you are using to capture that pallid look that blood loss brings. As for Imperial Japanese Army videos I will have to look into it

Superb painting skills, I have to say though....i've never seen any photos of Meyer wearing Oak Leaf...not to say he did'nt but I have seen photos of him wearing Italian & Spring Blurred edge camo suits in Normandy.

ya it may well be the case of the blurred camo being mistaken for oak leaf in the research

Yes, I could tell you tried something different from your previous videos. How did you like the final results? I think this technique produces a finer and more dynamic figure... IMO.
@longlance67

I found it quite involved and little tricky not being able to hold the figure as close to myself as I would like due to the camera, but i did like the end result

It's always hard to film and paint at the same time, especially figures so I know what you're saying. Yes, the end result was great.

ah I understand now, thought you were asking for a 1/48 tutorial, ya you should 1/35 far easier having gotten used to the smaller scale. I myself spent many years painting 1/72 and 1/56 figures before I got into 1/35 figures and I feel it really helped me with my brush control

@@longlance67 Good tip, try painting the "palm tree" pattern, kinda difficult in 35th scale.

Very nice Shane! If memory serves, the jacket had printed wool across the shoulders which makes them appear darker. Also, Waffen SS cap bands were black, not dark green. Anyway, I love the way you've done the Oakleaf!

Great tutorial Shayne, I am doing the Miniart Totenkopf division Kursk 1943 and plan to use this camo. Do you think this would be a suitable colour scheme or should I just stick to the regular German uniform. Thanks once again for a great lesson.
@longlance67
@longlance67 4 жыл бұрын
so for troops at kursk this camo in theory might have been worn by some troops, more fitting to the time year would be spring oak leaf / plane tree pattern which I have also done a tutorial on: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIK1lXRqlrV5icU

How do you thin the paint without making it a sort of wash? Great video! And thanks for the help!
@longlance67
@longlance67 5 жыл бұрын
so the best way to thin down your paint without it becoming a wash, is to literally dip the rounded end of your brush handle into some water, you get only a tiny amount of water and mix it into your paint on your palette

You need to look at some more photos when painting, change the way how you make your shapes of the oak leaf they are too sharp not rounded edges, like oak leafs..
